Low Volume Sellers Not Valued
Summary: The discussion addresses the challenges faced by low-volume sellers on an online platform, emphasizing how conditions have worsened over the past three years. comfie18 laments that the platform, originally a user-friendly space for casual selling, has become difficult to navigate due to automated systems and lack of human oversight. Another participant notes the irony of reviving old threads when the original poster is likely no longer involved. They also mention that even high-volume sellers encounter difficulties, highlighting widespread dissatisfaction.
I've used eBay since the beginning. Over 20 years. I don't sell for a living, only to clean out things from my house. I've been sick for the past year so only now feel well enough to start cleaning out some things.
Last time I did sell, over a year ago, the post office lose a package. I was sick at the time and I thought the buyer had been refunded and everything was resolved with eBay but I guess I was wrong. I found out last night my seller account has been restricted. No selling. I can't see my seller dashboard or anything that tells me what happened. I sold so few items that apparently 1 sale that goes wrong in 20 years was enough.
I have also been getting emails for a long time saying my account needs updating but the system will never let me update my debit card payment info that it says it needs (PayPal is still linked, has always been linked and has never changed so why the emails?). But I guess that doesn't matter anymore.
I spoke with chat last night and phone this morning. All I get are scripted responses saying that the system has restricted me for having a bad seller percentage, that they can't tell me exactly why (like how many sales were considered in the percentage or even to confirm if it was that one) and that the decision can never be appealed. I feel completely non-valued and shoved away.
Thanks eBay. You've finally shown me what you think about your lower volume customers. If I can't sell then why should I buy from your site either? Guess it's time to move on.

·2 months agoHigh volume sellers aren't either, don't feel so bad.

·2 months agoI know this post is 3years old. Sadly it has gotten much much worse in the last 3 years and is now virtually impossible for low volume high value sellers to exist on the platform at all. eBay has completely abandoned any sense of its roots as a place for people to sell casually and to clear up some clutter around the house or shop. It’s an utter disgrace now. I have been selling since 2000 and in the last 5 years it has gotten exponentially harder to comply with all the AI bullshit with no human in the loop at all to make a sensible decision. It sucks so bad now.

·2 months agoYes it's sad that people have to bump 3 year old threads when the OP is long gone and most likely will not even read replies after this long.

·3 years agoHey @jjmoreta. It appears you're unaware that eBay switched to a managed payments platform so PayPal is basically irrelevant unless you're using it to buy shipping labels.
On top of that, eBay is tightening up security and taking steps to verify seller ID in accordance with the upcoming INFORM act.
If a seller does not link their bank account and complete registration with managed payments despite multiple warnings, eBay will restrict their account. Same goes with requests for photo ID.
Contact eBay for Business on Facebook by sending a DM and ask them if you can get the restriction lifted by linking your bank, ID or whatever they require.
But if they tell you your account was restricted for a different reason like a below standard rating for too many defects, you probably can't appeal.

·3 years agoeBay never notified you by eBay message or by email that you had a balance due? I find that quite hard to believe.
That aside, what you are really saying is that low volume sellers who had a delinquent account for over a year are not valued. I find that quite easy to believe.

OP3 years agoI haven't received any emails from eBay saying I was delinquent on any money owed to them. I only received one email after the lost package asking me to pay fees and I did. Nothing else since then except these emails asking me to update my account, which then says I need to update payment information (even though PayPal still shows as linked).
I did refund the buyer of the lost package at the time. Ate the cost of the item and shipping because there wasn't anything else I could do. Thought that resolved the issue at the time. Guess it was still a mark against me unless there was anything else I don't know about. But I didn't receive any emails about any other items and the system won't let me see my seller history. So I'm really just assuming because eBay can't tell me any specifics - what my percentage was or what sales were considered.

OP3 years agoIf my account was delinquent in some way, I was never notified by email. If I had owed eBay or the seller anything I would have paid it. IF I HAD KNOWN. The only emails I was sent was to update my account information, which the system never let me do.

·3 years agoSorry if this sounds harsh, but you didn't do what you needed to do. You abandoned your account, and left a buyer hanging. Ebay figures if you did it once, you may do it again. I'm sorry.
