·1 year agoFirst and foremost eBay ships/delivers nothing. Even items that go through the EIS program are sent utilizing various carriers. EBay has seller protections in place for any delays that may be caused by weather events or other issues like the LA wildfires. However, you must always reply to any INR claims opened by a buyer regardless of whether that is via the eBay process or through a chargeback. One of the issues is so much is handled by bot software you need to detail any potential issues in your response and upload the tracking information that shows the progress.
Should an item actually be lost by the carrier, I had 5 packages lost during the spring floods that were never found, either the sender or the receiver can open an insurance claim with the carrier however most of the time this falls to the seller since most buyers are not aware that they can do so. If you are going to open an insurance claim with the carrier simply refund the buyer before starting the claim. Yes there is always a chance that the buyer may ultimately receive the package anyway but that has always been a risk.
I opened insurance claims for all 5 packages that were lost back in the spring, all were approved in about a week and I had a check from USPS within 2 weeks after approval. I once had a package that was lost, I filed an insurance claim and was reimbursed. The package was ultimately found over 2 years later and returned to me since the original buyer no longer lived at that address and the mail forwarding timeline was long past.

·1 year agoThe only protection eBay offers sellers relating to packages that are lost/damaged by the carrier is on packages shipped through the eBay International Shipping program. When a package is shipped through the eIS program the seller's loss/damage liability ends once the package reaches the eIS hub, if the package is lost/damaged after reaching the hub eBay refunds the buyer and the seller keeps the money.

If the buyer didn't get his item... here's the procedure...
Buyer opens INR
You reply to the INR with tracking number
You open lost mail claim with USPS, and advise customer of case number
As @nobody*s_perfect said, you get $100 of USPS insurance automatically
If USPS finds it lost, you get refunded, but you STILL need to refund your customer if it is stuck or lost somewhere.
The way weather and events are happening here in the US, it's amazing to me mail still gets sent through. All it takes is for a disaster or accident to delay (or lose) a piece of mail

·1 year agoAfter reading your post and the reply that you left for your recent negative feedback, I am astonished that a Top Rated Seller with hundreds of feedback for selling has no clue about how this process works. eBay's seller protection policy will protect you against a fake "Item not received" claim if you can show delivery confirmation, but if an item is truly lost then the buyer must be made whole by the seller.
Your packages automatically came with $100 of insurance coverage (except for USPS Media Mail), so if they were scanned into the system even once you can recover your funds by filing a claim.

Three losses is worrisome, since some of us have been shipping for years with no lost packages at all. You need to get to the bottom of this -- the problem could be anything ranging from a dishonest USPS employee, to peel-off labels falling off of your packages.

Believe me when I say I understand your frustration ...
-I assume USPS is the carrier you are referring to.
-I assume you print your labels through eBay and tracking is automatically uploaded to the sold file.
-I assume that you know to upload the tracking number to a Buyer's claim that they did not receive their item since you have been selling since 2015.
-I assume you do NOT know that on day 4 of an Item not received claim you can contact eBay and ask for an extension, they currently will extend claims 10 days.
-I assume you know to check to see if the items you shipped went through areas recently affected by severe weather or natural disasters. eBay makes regular announcements about these situation on the Announcement board: Announcements - The eBay Community
-I assume you take your packages to the carrier and stand in line to get the Acceptance scan to make sure that tracking is recorded by the carrier.
I dodged a $ 210 loss on a shipment that went to a foreign Buyer who used a freight forwarding company in Miami, the local USPS carrier NEVER scanned the package delivered. The Buyer from South America filed a claim that they did not receive their item. On day 3 of the claim I contacted the forwarding company. They told me the received the package, sent it to the Buyer AND they had confirmed delivery. I messaged the Buyer with this information and asked them to close the claim, which they did.
Neutral or Negative Feedback because a 3rd party carrier failed to deliver a package should NEVER be allowed.
You can file an insurance claim with USPS for a lost package.
I believe eBay could EASILY address the issue of getting the Sellers money if a package is delivered after a refunded claim. They current HOLD a Seller's money up to 30 days if they are new, a low activity seller or the sale is over $ 1,000.00. eBay could HOLD the Buyer's money for 30 days after an INR claim has been refunded in the event the package is delivered after the claim ends ... but they don't. This would NOT be an issue for Buyers because they agreed to pay for the item in the first place and because of a 3rd party carrier it arrived a little late.

·1 year agoWe have always been responsible for the item until it reached the buyer. Most of my items have insurance that should cover a lost package. If your lost items involved the ebay international shipping program and they arrived at the hub, ebay will take the hit, but otherwise, I've never seen where ebay claims we have nothing to worry about. The buyer is covered by the ebay money back guarantee. Also, how many buyers would we have if they never receive their item and don't get a refund?
More importantly, are these buyers filing item not received cases? If so, are you refunding or was ebay involved to complete the refund for you? If you don't handle the cases, you will have a bigger problem meeting ebay's seller requirements. Are you familiar with defects that show up on your dashboard?

·1 year agoeBay is not a shipping carrier.
File a Lost Item claim with the shipping carrier you used to get your money back.
Obviously if the buyer did not receive their item, they are entitled to a full refund.
As a seller it is up to you to deal with the Lost Item claim.
If it has happened 3 times in a week, are they all going missing at the same location in the Shipping process?
If so you should contact the Carrier and have them investigate why they keep disappearing.
You the seller are responsible for items until they are delivered to your buyer.
If the buyer opened an item not received case and you didn't respond what did you expect when doing that? The buyer obviously had to ask eBay to step in because you didn't provide a tracking number showing delivery or a refund. So eBay refunded out of either your available funds or payment source.
eBay will protect a seller that can provide tracking as delivered.
If you had a case where the buyer received an item AFTER an item received case has close with you giving a refund. You can reach out to the buyer for payment but they aren't obligated to pay.
The best you can do is right off losses when you file your taxes.
