Looks like the Display/Store Ads Beta is rolling out
To see if you have this, check your Seller Hub>Store Tab>
IF you have this, you will see---
in the left column, under "Promote Stores" --- "Set up Store Ads" (NEW).
Click that, and you'll see this:
And you can go from there to set up your campaign, should you actually want to.
A couple things to note:
1. In typical ebay fashion, this is referred to as "Store Ads" in the Stores section, but here it is referred to as "Promoted Display" or "Display Ads." Consistency has never been an ebay strongpoint.
2. The ad is not for a particular item, it is per category. At present, it looks like you must use ebay's category structure, NOT your store's category structure. I doubt that that will change.
3. Ads will apparently appear on competing listing pages chosen by ebay presumably because the item on the page is related in some way to your chosen category. (I think you can narrow the focus to ebay sub categories)
Location of ad: As shown here, which we had determined previously:
What does the ad look like? Well, ebay chooses images from your listings and chooses "text" it considers relevant. At present, it does not appear that you have any choice when it comes to which images are chosen or which text ebay proceeds to use. Here are three different ads ebay could run, for example:
Easy set-up: This is Pay Per Click, like Promoted Listings Advanced, and so you set your bid amount for each click, set your daily limit total, set your start and end dates, and give the ad campaign a name...and then, I gather, you have entered the fast-paced ,exciting, and no doubt profitable (at least for ebay) world of Store Ads! Or Display Ads! Or whatever ebay finally decides to call them!
Anyone else seeing this?

·2 years agoNever going to happen. I refuse to play the game of having my sales held hostage unless I shovel money into eBay's pockets. I will shut my whole account down forever before I pay per click. My sales have been absolutely wrecked this last year and change, and have been down ever since promoted listings became a thing.
Just let us sell our stuff and pay the seller fees without kneecapping us unless we pay a ransom. Is it a wonder there are fewer buyers when the search results are this manipulated? Just let the best listings for the best price win and stop trying to make us all promote just to even be seen. It's worse for us and it's even worse for buyers who get frustrated with these stupid games.

·2 years agoYeah! More types of Ads! Yes! I have this new type available to me!
I currently see irrelevant Promoted Ads appearing in my searches, Ads on my listing page in between the listing picture and the listing description, now where are these Ads going?
Life was a lot easier and more profitable relying on my organic search results (and eBay was a better place). No going back now....
So eBay says if I do 100% Promoted Ads, $100 daily PPC ads and a $100 daily budget for this new type of Ads I can increase my sales? Great!
I see how eBay can make an embarrassingly HUGE profit. How do sellers make a profit when they pay out more than they take in? Yes, eBay - don't stop. We need more types of Ads. We need Super Ads where sellers set budget for the #1, #2, and #3 search result spot and allows eBay just choose the highest budget. I'll pay $100 for the #1 search spot.
eBay sellers, we don't want to make money - we just want the #1 search spot. eBay, give us more ways to do it - we are waiting! 🙄

·2 years agoAnother example of Ebay not doing anything to attract and hold buyers to increase profits, but finding more ways to make money off sellers by encouraging them to pay money for a bigger presence over other sellers (ie the gladiators pay the coliseum to fight now).
The only schemes ebay has to increase profits is "how can we milk more out of sellers, and hopefully do so pitting them against each other to force/pressure them to use it?"
Its actually extremely sick its their sole business model now. They reject any kind of campaign to bring in more buyers. "I Found it on Ebay" would still resonate and work, there are so many different items to use in the ads they could create. Anything would be helpful.
Nope. Ebay only just comes up with more pay to play schemes that pit sellers against sellers.

·2 years agoIt’s a vicious tool that sellers can use against each other.
vintagecraze50
·2 years agoYou attract buyers it would seem buy offering the items they want at a good price. That there are maybe a trillion sellers on here selling the same things is not an advantage for each individual seller. It is an advantage if you can pay the price for ads and your product sells through for some. For many no. ALSO, would like to see ebay doing more to attract more customers here because none of this in the long run is going to consistently work if it continually drives up prices for product. But, that again may work if sellers can obtain inventory smartly and cheap.

·2 years agoI can't afford 5 dollars a day under new program any if it brings in traffic doesn't guarantee any sales 150 dollars month for pay clicks doesn't make any sense what happen with eBay they used to bring in the traffic we the sellers brought in revenue ebay made money off our fees both the seller and ebay were profitable now it's a struggle to make any money sells not coming in

·2 years agoYou know this all great stuff but let me tell you what we have seen for the past like 3 months. We are down what we would usually do especially on the weekends. A week or so ago we started promoting for the first time and doing 10 dollar off each item promos. It worked pretty fast last week but this past week BAD BAD bad. We sell a very popular brand name item with comps all over the internet. Our prices are some of the best anywhere on here. I go to the sold listings pages for EVERYBODY selling this stuff and the overall pictures is low low sales. So, all this can work quite nicely but the CUSTOMERS need to be on this website, and right now for what we sell they are in hibernation. LOL.

·2 years agoIs these ads that appear just on your storefront or are these ads in the general search results?
valueaddedresource
·2 years ago@vintagecraze50 these ads do not appear on your storefront, they are designed to direct buyers to your storefront.
They can appear on the View Item page for similar items or above search.

·2 years agoThank you Liz for showing me how they look and where they are.

·2 years agoTo go along with this - eBay is also now rolling out traffic reporting for Stores as well.

·2 years agoIt's odd that I paid over $20 for 61 clicks yesterday through the store display ad program, and it's telling me I've had zero visits from Those ads.

The second chart says "Updated August 29th"...could that be the reason?

·2 years agoIt has been my experience with the "pay per click" that it is a racket and I've gotten ripped off from Google, Facebook and the worst which was Yelp. I have metrics on our website and can see where traffic is coming from and how many real visitors there are. Of course, I also know how many of them bought something. NEVER has the bill from any of them come even close to the numbers on the metric. The first two were grossly over blown and billed as such and the third were non-existent. "Showed up in search results" is another bogus tool they use to inflate your numbers. What good is promoting it if people are scrolling right past it.
Aside from that, not being able to use a store category is not going to work for me. Religious products are buried deep under Collectibles, another drawback.
I wouldn't touch it on here, but hey, that's just mho. Thanks for sharing the info though!
vintagecraze50
·2 years agoYou have to be able to afford this stuff to use it with a product that you know it going to sell through quite nicely and a whole lot of product to sell. For smaller sellers it may not be affordable at all.

I see it today. I would test it out if it was not pay per click which is just too rich for my blood.
valueaddedresource
·2 years ago@my-cottage-books-and-antiques @mcdougle4248 it might be interesting to compare suggested rates for different categories, without actually launching a campaign of course (for those who don't want to try it out).
I've seen some examples from Motors Parts and Accessories where eBay is suggesting $1.50 - $1.80 per click. 😲 💸

·2 years agoHere is what I see for the categories I list in:
Collectibles: Range $0.67 - $1.49 Suggested $0.93 per click
Home & Garden: Range $0.76 - $1.86 Suggested $1.10 per click
Crafts: Range $0.81 - $1.83 Suggested $1.00 per click

·2 years ago$100 so far and a $10 sale! Woo Hoo!!!
I'm just going thru my listings and burning up my "clicker" on other sellers adds. 🤣
vintagecraze50
·2 years agoYeah, how do they regulate this stuff?
sapphire_studio
·2 years agoOver $20 later and no sales I have turned it off. Since I sell multiples of new items and the program was so new I thought maybe I could get a little Edge and make at least a few sales from it. I was wrong and I officially do not recommend this ad program.

·2 years agoYeah, I saw it and immediately closed out the window when I saw it was pay per click.
If it was pay on sale like PLS I would have considered testing it while putting a pause on PLS so I wouldn't pay double ad fees.
I have no interest in pay per click; that model does not work for my business.
sapphire_studio
·2 years agoI decided to give it a shot after I saw your post last night. So far I have paid $7.30 for 32 clicks and 0 sales. I doubt I will keep this after I finish the day out.

caldreamer
·2 years agoNo, I cannot find what you are seeing.
While this is interesting...I would never use this because with "per click fee" you have no idea how much you will get stuck paying and no guarantee that customer will even purchase item. To me...it just seems like another money grab by EBAY.
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
OP2 years agoI should add, now in the Marketing tab>Advertising Dashboard, in the "Campaign Type" dropdown, I now have the option "Promoted Display" along with PLS and PLA. Of course, since I'm not actually running a campaign, I can't comment further about the info contained in the PD's dashboard.
caldreamer
·2 years agoOkay...now I found what you are looking at. Thanks.
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
OP2 years ago@caldreamer So you have this? My guess is they are going to try to get this rolled out to most everyone in time for ebay Open at the end of September.
And , as you note this pay per click. You do set a daily limit, so you have some control over how much you spend. My guess is, relatively few people are using this right now, so there might actually be some benefit in using it before more sellers start bidding up the click rates.
BUT...
As a reseller of single quantity, long tail items, with very few higher priced items, I think this will be like PLA for me: It just isn't worth it. On the other hand, if I was a seller of multi quantity items, especially newer items, I might consider it (same as with PLA). But I'm having a hard time seeing this as having much value for sellers of one offs. However, maybe if you sell one offs and you have thousands of items, especially in one or two categories, it might pay off.
I might be willing to play around with it if ebay gives us some sort of introductory credit, like your first $100 is on the house. LOL
