looking for someone to do listings
I have an elderly friend whos wife is in a nursing home which is costing him s small fortune . He was a dealer/collector of watch fobs , belt buckles and pins since he was in his 30's so he has amassed a larhe quantity of items he needs to turn into cash. I told him he should get the items on ebay and of course he doesnt have a computer so it makes it extremely difficult . So my question is is there a service or company out ther that would list his stuff for him for a fee ? please help

·2 years agoYou're a friend; why don't you sell his items on eBay for him "for a fee"?
If he has a large collection, it could take quite some time to sell all of it. And of course, you would need to be responsible for photographing and listing; answering questions and dealing with difficult buyers; shipping supplies and wrapping and taking to post office; potential chargebacks for NADs, lost or delayed packages, or unrecognized transactions (up to six months later); eBay selling fees, and last but not least, taxes.
All of this is why a lot of people won't sell for someone else. The time and effort involved isn't worth the "fee" or percentage that they agree to work for.

·2 years agoNot sure what area you or your friend are in but check local estate sale companies and/or auction houses. Listing on eBay could be a long drawn out process depending on the volume of items your friend has.

·2 years agoHe needs to have someone buy him out for a fair percentage, and then that person can sell them wherever. Its the simplest and quickest option that gets him money and no selling headaches, its a one and done.
If you can, you're a friend, offer him a fair amount for everything, its all over for him, no hassle.

eBay sellers who sell items for others can deduct whatever funds they turn over to the items' original owners as a business expense on their tax returns. But there are a dozen other reasons why an eBay seller would not want to take on this assignment. I agree with you that trying to sell the entire collection locally makes more sense.

·2 years agoSorry to hear about your friend. It would be better if you tried to sell them to local antique dealer or consignment store. EBAY sellers do not want to sell another person's item (we would be liable for income tax from that sale).

·2 years agoA fee? Chances are the split would be 50/50. It might be wiser to find a younger collector who will buy the lot.

eBay doesn't have a seller valet program any longer.
