Look closely at Ebay shipping charges for items you sell
I completed a sale today. The buyer paid shipping charges to his/her location, based on weight, dimensions, and shipping service I originally selected for the listing. I attempted to purchase a shipping label within 20 minutes, only to be quoted a label price $5.00 higher than Ebay's own calculation for the buyer. Nothing changed between listing and final sale, including weight and package measurments. Thankfully, a very helpful Ebay agent checked on it and told me that the higher shipping cost to me was incorrect. She confirmed, via Ebay Message that I would be refunded the difference. We'll see how that all plays out, but something so simple should not complicate such a straightforward sale.

·1 year agoI guarantee FedEx will be charging your account even more - likely double to ship that golf bag. It's not the weight and size of the package, it's the dimensional weight they go by.

OP1 year agoBut, dimensional weight IS weight and size, right? If not, I'm tanking the sale.

I would not trust what any CS person tells you. If you put in the weight and dimensions and got a price, that is the price.

OP1 year agoNot saying I completely trust the CS rep. But, I have her reponse on record, and I have a totally supportive bank / credit card company. Not the first time I've needed to challenge Ebay, and succeeded!

That will not matter. eBay does not back YOU when the CS rep gives you wrong advice. The basic eBay reply to the "on the record" will be "sorry that the agent gave you misinformation" but......yada yada yada you lose.
After YEARS of experience here, most already know to NEVER trust what an outsourced eBay CS agent tells you. Yes, they are always polite and totally empathetic to your issue. They will tell you "not to worry" and they will take care of the problem for you in 24-48 hours. The 24-48 is the code phrase for NEVER. If you follow their advice, it is always going to be on YOU when things get worse.
