Listing/Selling on other eBay Sites
Because of issues going on between Canada and the US, I'm looking into listing on a different site other than dot com. (I find the Canadian dollars to not be worth very much and don't want to list there). I am thinking of listing on the UK site because shipping from Canada is around the same cost as shipping to the US, so I feel I can compete with other UK sellers.
So I've got questions...
1. I have a store on dot com, am I able to open a store on the UK site?
2. Will my funds from UK sales be converted into my home currency for deposit into my account?
3. Does having a store on dot com give me any listing advantages on the UK site (like being able to list without fees, this is assuming I'm not allowed to have a store on both sites at once)
Pending on how things go with our pending tariff war with the US and other issues with the US economy, I might consider moving my store, but would like answers to the above to find out if I can test it out before making any major changes.

·1 year agoHave you researched eBaymag : the tool allows you to list on all ebay sites. It's been a few years since I used it, so I can't give any insight.

·1 year agoSounds great...but if you can only answer and read questions in English...
I don't use it...and yet I have to use google translate to respond or translate questions as it is...and it's a bit of time consuming...I have email in different languages and prefer not to have to do that...but it is an idea.

OP1 year agoWas wondering if anyone else registered on the US site was selling there... I'm registered on the US site. I'm in the Canadian sellers forum but it's low traffic with the same dozen people posting (and the odd lurker participating in the heated threads).

However, buyers from UK prefer real stamps (USA or Canada) on their envelopes.
Usually most buyers of stamps dislike eBay labels and want real stamps of the country they are buying from...per my feedbacks I read.
I have some sellers who actually have 'tracking' with maybe 50 stamps on an envelope...LOL

OP1 year agoI can send a tracked letter to the UK for around $7 CAD (which is what UPS Mail Innovations costs to the US, GA costs $8.50 CAD with Stallion Express).
I have real stamps and get discounted postage from the B&M store (they let me pick when new collections show up). Thing is, most of my stamps are definitives, I don't have lots of commemoratives to use. I think for up to 100 grams it's about $8.50 CAD in stamps to the UK, so the tracked shipping with Stallion is cheaper, but I suppose with discounted postage the stamps are a better deal.
Things to consider. I'm in the B&M store on Wednesday so I'll see what they think about you know who. I think they're just going to tell me to wait until Feb 1 and see what he does. I've been advised by my friends that cooler heads prevail in these situations so bad things don't happen.

He wants to take back the Panama Canal...why? I work on cruise ships that go through the Panama Canal and all those cruise ships are not USA owned or flag...in fact, there are no USA flag cruise ships...LOL
He helped built the tallest building in Panama...and Panama took his name off it which was I guess in some type of metal on the building and such...that is why he wants the Panama Canal back...and Marriott has it now.
'Definitives'...buyers do hate those on envelopes...Christmas, religion and flags and such.
And when I send to other countries I never put those on an envelope...that's a no-no where the mailman might throw you item away from another country.

OP1 year agoI've got definitives in values of 15, 17, 20, 25 and 30 cents, they're small like the flag stamps (but don't have flags, they are Canadian themed, no flags). I sometimes have to put 4.29 on an envelope, there's space, but not that much space for little denominations. I'll take 10x 30 cent and then add some misc ones to make up the postage. I don't sell stamps so much (or when I do, it's lots of stamps to the same person), it's usually coins and tokens going to Canadian buyers, so I'm not sure a Canadian token collector is going to care about what stamps are on his envelope.
I have some Christmas stamps, but they're 60 cents, so I took them because they are high value compared to most of what I have. I like that the small stamps can fit on a small envelope and I have room for a lot of them. Some of the commemoratives from that time were downright huge... there's some 30, 35 and 60 cent stamps that are enormous, I save those for great big envelopes (when I send a whole page of stamps). Those commemoratives have pictures of old stamps on them.
I will see what I can get from the B&M store next time around. There are some nice 45 cent ones in my stock book for international mailing (and I have 1 and 2 dollar stamps from a long time ago too). I just took a bunch last time and then was told I owed the B&M store $772 CAD for what I took, so that's kind of a lot, I figure it will take a long time to use those when I only do 5-10 letters with stamps each week.

·1 year agoReligious is usually Christmas like theme ...I only use those for shipping to English speaking countries...and sometimes flag stamps.
Considering who the big man in the office is lately...I will try not to use anything USA theme related on my mailings outside the USA.
Stamps like birds or animals on them and such and what I will use in the future for 4 years.

·1 year agoYou are listed as an eBay seller ID in Canada. Your shipping states from USA.
I know that's not an issue because you live so close at the border.
Be many buyers may not understand that...and maybe not make a purchase.
Doing a UK site...I wouldn't.
I think you are worry about you know who.
I don't see anything coming about with anything in Canada or Mexico.
The Colombia thing with a tariff only lasted a day...LOL I was ready to go out and buy tons of coffee and the country of Colombia came to an agreement like overnight with the 25% tariff on Colombia.
I have been looking at 'Hip Stamp' to sell stamps...and they don't have many embargo countries.
My thought on embargo countries of eBay I might go there in the future.
And one can transfer items for sale from eBay site to Hip Stamp site sounds interesting.
As of now, I haven't tried it...I'm rather on the lazy side this month.

OP1 year agoFor UK shipments they'd come from Canada. Stallion has a deal with Royal Mail, so the price to ship is pretty much the same as USPS (sometimes even cheaper than Ground Advantage). I suppose if buyers are screening for UK only, then my listings won't be seen.
There's significant freaking out going on in Canada right now because of you know who... A little birdie told me places like Chit Chats are worried about running their businesses with new tariffs and regulations and are holding their breath until Feb 1 to see if tariffs are levied.
Since I sell a lot of Canadian and British stuff, I thought I'd have an audience in the UK who would be interested in my listings. I get lots of UK sales right now as it is, but that's advertising on the US site.

·1 year agoI get mostly UK buyers as well as my main source of UK buyers...probably would get more if eBay was able to let International Buyers combine potential items and send me them send me a combined shipping update cost.
I thought about doing some free International Shipping on some items to see what happens.
Was getting a lot of Australian buyers but that kind of lately went sour.
It's a lot of 'hot air' with the person in charge right now....after the first 100 days things will go sour...too many Republicans up for election in 2 years here...way too many.

OP1 year agoI read on the news California wants to be it's own country... I can respect that! Apparently the powers to be there don't like the Washington person in charge.
That's cool you have lots of UK buyers, I should try to find a way to market more to the UK. Shipping costs are reasonable (compared to every other country) and I sell lots of things that Brits would be interested in buying. You're right about the problems combining, I guess if we listed on the UK site orders could be more easily combined. I checked fees, it's actually quite expensive to have a store (for what you're getting, a store my size would cost around $550 USD a month, and right now I pay $80 a month). And it's 30p per listing, which is OK with me if it sells the first time I list, if it's listed for a year, that kind of eats away at profits.
Lots of things to think about, I came here since I wondered if anyone here dared to try that and what kind of results happened.

·1 year agoI only pay $22.95 a month...US dollars of course...but I think have the same conditions as you as forever listing items forever...LOL
$80. a month seems rather expensive in Canadian dollars even.

OP1 year agoIt's $80 US with no commitment. I think it's $60 US if I agree to commit to a year's subscription, but I don't like commitments (and the B&M store pays 80% of the subscription fee, the other 20% I pay since 20% of what's sold in my eBay store is my own personal stuff).
I get 10,000 listings (coins do not fall into that category of having an extra 50,000 listings). Since you sell stamps you can use a lesser store, as stamps fall under the collectibles category for bonus listings. Probably in my store of 12K listings, half is stamps and postcards (for the extra 50K in listings), and the other half is coins and tokens and stuff that doesn't qualify.

If the news you saw was accurate, it would have said there is a secessionist movement in California.
But that movement is neither "California" nor is it "the powers that be" that are pushing for this.
It is a ballot petition introduced by a man named Marcus Evans, and in 180 days the petition must be signed by 546,651 voters in order to even qualify for the ballot.
