Listings vanished into thin air?
Summary: smaffet shared a concern about listings disappearing from eBay without notification, mentioning the difficulty in managing thousands of listings. chapeau-noir noted that eBay sometimes drops old listings and suggested it could be an issue with eBay's database. 44012 confirmed similar experiences with long-standing items and discussed doing regular inventories. Others, like kandf_vintage_finds and luckythewinner, stated they had not experienced this issue despite having numerous listings. The discussion highlights varying experiences with listing retention on eBay.
Was listing some fall and winter items getting ready for the new season. Thought of a coat we listed a year or two ago and decided to lower the price to get it sold. Went to our active listings and there was no coat, relisted it and took pictures. A pain for something that was already done once. We have had things delisted but eBay tells you and there is a record. This isn’t the first time this has happened to us and having thousands of listings makes it very difficult to know what else might have disappeared. Has anyone else experienced this or know how to avoid it?
Thanks!!!

·1 week agoThis happens frequently, mostly on items that have been out there for a long time. You most likely have other items that fell off your listings - you just haven't found them yet.
I have to do a physical inventory each year and a spot inventory on selected items/bins every month. And that doesn't even fix it 100% from happening.

·1 week agoI've had listings dropped when they get close to 90 days. eBay does warn that they may drop old, stale listings.

·1 week agoI know Ebay has said this. The stopped doing it, then said it again and started doing it. It is something they have started and stopped a few times over the years. All I can say is that as long as I've been here, which is a long time, they have never closed one of my stale listings. IDK if I'm just lucky or what, but it has never happened and I've had quite a few over the years. Just my own experiences.

·1 week ago · EditedIt's hard to say whether they're dropped because they're 'old' (90 days is stale but I don't think that qualifies as being old) under eBay's criteria, or because of a database indexing snafu. Database events can happen in any company, but eBay has an enormous database and their IT is a bit janky - it wouldn't surprise me if random listings just get lost (I've lost a couple after only 30 days) unintentionally. There's a touching faith in eBay's IT here on this forum that says listings cannot be lost or duplicated, but it happens.
Insofar as eBay actually dropping old listings, I suspect one big criteria is how active a seller is with their listings. In your case, they'd never drop them because you are consistently active and present. But a bunch of old listings in an account that seems dormant...they may just get rid of them.
