Hello,
How do you, as sellers, deal with old listings before the eBay software removes them from your store?
Do you revise/refresh? Tweak the listing.
Do you end, revise or sell similar? Tweaking the listing.
Do you end, then put up a new listing? Photos/write-ups etc.
Does the eBay algorithms embed a code into the photo or description to let it know how long the listing has been on the platform or maybe both? If not, how does the algorithm know how long the listings have been up?
For those sellers with 500+ listings this could be a daunting task, not to mention time consuming.
What's been successful?
I currently have over 500 listings and that, to me, would be a huge task.

·2 years agoI've lost active listings on a regular basis for years - some have been listed for 30 days, some longer. I never let anything run longer than 90 days but I still find items have disappeared (nowhere to be found on the site - I've run tests a number of times). I simply rejig them as new listings. IMHO, it's a database indexing problem - I don't think this is any particular directed action on the part of eBay.
Unsolds remain for roughly 90 days, but they can be easily dropped, too.

·2 years agoI have some very old listings and I have never had eBay remove one due to "aging out".
Usually, even if eBay ends a listing, even though it does not show up for you, it may still be in eBay's system as a "completed" listing. Try doing an advanced search for completed listings. Your old ones may show up then you can "sell similar".

·2 years agoI don't get a lot of views either and I seem to have more watchers than ever. More than 1/3 of my listing have watchers! But I don't worry about views or watchers. I don't remember when, but eBay started counting only actual views, not bot views. This is part of the difference in views. I recently had an auction with 3 watchers but no bids. At the same time I had an auction with 0 watchers and it got 4 bids from 2 buyers.
I don't list every single day but I sure try. I do notice that when I am at an antique show and not listing, I don't have many sales after that. Then when I start working in earnest again, the sales come in. I don't know what the answer is either but I just keep going.

·2 years agoNot sure who started that rumor. There was another post similar recently.
The only time that I know of listings be deleted is if they sit in your unsold for more than 90 days (I believe) and if you have listings sitting in your drafts, I want to say after 30 days before deleted.
If I have those number of days wrong, please correct me. Thank you

OP2 years agoAny listing over 90 days would be considered old and thus be a candidate for removal. I have some listings older that 90 days and they stay on the page and some get removed. I'm not sure what the criteria is. I think eBay should send a msg of a pending removal.

·2 years ago90 days for unsold is correct. Drafts disappear after 75 days per the help page, but I find it to be 60 days. @sextons-sweet-deals

·2 years agoEnd and sell similar for 500 items would only take about 5 minutes max. You have to use the bulk editor and do 200 at a time. There are probably videos on YouTube that show you how to do it.
Alternatively I've seen it suggested to raise the price a dollar or lower the price a dollar using the bulk editor as well.
Any type of action on the item might keep it showing as "current" to eBay.

·2 years agoI just let my listings continue to run. None are ever removed. Some people like to run them for 30 days and then relist. I don't have the time to keep up with that but some people do. So if that works for you to make more sales then do it.

·2 years agoI have over 1200 listings. I don't find that eBay removes any of my listings. I recently sold a book that has been active for nearly 3 years.
I am still revising the listings from first class to ground advantage. I list new items regularly, always using sell similar. I do not play the 'end the item and sell similar' game. I simply don't have time to do that.
What makes you think eBay is removing your listings??

The other day I searched for a listing that I had on the self and it was no longer listed. I then checked two other items and they too, were not listed. This prompted me to conduct a mini audit, random. I found 15 + listings that I still had on the shelf and the item was not found on my "Active Listings" page.
I also conduct full inventory checks in Jan or Feb and have found up to 50 listing missing from the "Active Listing" page. It's very frustrating. I have also found that there are listings on the "Active Listing" page that I no longer had on the shelf. I was able to figure the cause of that one and I made the correction.
I gather then eBay sees your store as an active seller by listing everyday or working in your store everyday?
Since July store sales have plummeted by 75%. I used to have $100.00+ days, now the store struggles with $50.00. I ran a sale this weekend 25% off Friday thru Sunday Selected Items. There were no sales. I did get two sales that were not part of the 25% off sale.
I don't know what the answer is. Personally, I'm not getting the page views like in the past. If people can't find the listing, no sales. I can't help but think the algorithms are partly to blame and yes, the economy. I've been a seller since 2012 and these have been my worst months. I struggle to find an answer.
