Listing and not selling cost me $200+
I didn’t get a single bite on a saddle I listed for sale. But after the listing expired eBay charged me a “selling fee†anyway. Why is it called a selling fee when my item didn’t sell? If they’re charging a fee for listing an item, then why isn’t the fee disclosed and charged at the time of listing? Instead I was prompted to “improve†my listing throughout the process with no proactive disclosure of the fact that fees were being accumulated and would be charged whether my item sold or not. Then they threatened my credit rating to strong arm me into paying an exorbitant listing fee!
I’ve been using eBay under various account for over 20 years but this is the last time. People can go for to Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, and a multitude of other sites and list their items for free and not get roped into sneaky “selling†fees that are actually listing fees!
This is the last time I will use eBay to buy or sell. I wish them luck with their rip off business model.

·3 years agoI think I've read that if they catch you selling the item elsewhere by advertising it on eBay, they can charge you the full price. But given you haven't shared any details on what actual fees you paid, not sure anyone can help you.

There are different ways of "promoting".
As I understand it there is one that applies charges even when the item does not sell.
Sounds like maybe you "promoted" the listing with a program that charges you each time someone clicks on the item. Perhaps that is not the reason for the charges.

Post screenshots of said $200+ in fee's even though you didn't sell the item.
If you can't to that then stop going around lying & spreading false information to others.

·3 years agoSounds like all the details are missing on why and under what circumstances this happened.
Was this a cancelled auction? Was this a buy it now listing where messages with contact information were exchanged before a sale? A statement like "not selling cost me $200+" needs a few more details.
If you added any listing up grades like Bold, listing in 2 categories, had auctions with less than 5 day duration, had a reserve on auctions, subtitles etc..those all have fees that are charged regardless of whether or not the item sells. If you go over your selling limit or your free insertion fee listings you are charged per listing.
And all fees associated with a listing is shown to you just before you hit the list button.

It seems surprising to me for someone who says they sold for 20 years didn’t bother to look at what fees for all those up grades are.
