·3 years agoThe Michael VHS only has 3 words in the title... You get 80 characters for a title, try to use them all

·3 years agoYour primary photos look great. However, you're items are in a very competitive niche. Buyers are being very selective with their purchasing habits right now due to obvious financial climate reasons. You can try updating the titles from your listing. Maybe offer a coupon or a discount from time to time. Regardless of any changes, you will have to be very patient.
Hang in there!

·3 years agoMaybe have an actual description instead of just repeating the title again.

OP3 years agoThank you! I guess you're right, got some laziness to me.

Collectibles is a very saturated category. Perhaps add some close ups on some of the items you are selling. You may want to add more to the description other than what the item is. Is it in good, great condition? How long did you own it? Measurements are important too.
Nice shop. Happy Selling.

·3 years agoUse more keywords in your titles and descriptions. Use Item Specifics to your advantage, loaded with keywords.
Take advantage of every space in the title. Example: Instead of "Sugar Skull Ashtray," something like "Sugar Skull Ashtray Round Glass Day of the Dead / Dia de Muertos x.xx" [size, diameter].
Use more photos.
Use you imagination. The "triangular" ashtray can also be described as leaf-shaped and spade-shaped. And give its size. And that it is clear glass. And so on. Don't be so stingy with details.

·3 years agoYou're welcome. There is an adage that originated long ago, back in the early days of mail-order, and still applies: Make your pictures as though there are no words, and make your words as though there were no pictures.

·3 years agoLots of people think that way. You know something? The first three words are what the search engine here uses. You can fill every letter of the title, the first three words are all that count.
Much has change over the years. Not everyone is up to speed, I get it. Passing off what used to work, may not apply today.
The biggest problem I see with their store, is the same thing wrong with mine. Too much want stuff and not enough need stuff. Not that that stuff doesn't sell, but in this economy it's slow moving.

Are you certain that the 1st three words of the title are all that the search engine uses? (as related to the 80 characters allowed in the title).

·3 years agoSellers over the last two years, have had to work like madmen to fill in all kinds of item specifics. Those specifics tell most things about the item you are selling. There are hundreds and thousands of sellers, selling a given item here. What makes you think there need to be more than three words used in your title to be relevant to the search being made? Almost everything relevant is in the specifics.
Titles are more for the benefit of the looker/buyer. Specifics contain brand, color, MPN and all other relevant information. Why would the search engine need the title info to give a relevant search?
And yes, I am sure of what I stated. Listened to many sellers who have said the same. The first three words are the only words the search engine pays attention to. I just made the case as to why.

·3 years agoWhen I put in the three words "crystal bud vase," 8100 results were returned, vases in all sorts of colors. When I put in the three words "blue crystal bud," I got 25,000 results and all manner of items. With the three words "blue crystal vase," I get 3200 results, with many vases that are not bud vases. Using the four words "blue crystal bud vase" I got 785 results and they are just what I was "shopping" for, with only a couple of anomalies. (And, by the way, in that last search, the titles did have all fours words in them, at least of the first hundred or so I scanned.)
So what does that mean? I'm not arguing, just trying to understand. I must be missing something of what you are saying. I have never been satisfied with the eBay search engine as it has evolved (or devolved) over the years. Heck, I still regret that they took away the use of the common search operators. I've been around that long. 🙂

·3 years agoNevertheless, when the search results are shown, the entire title will be seen, with info that may be just what the buyer is looking for, or might catch his eye with something he hadn't thought of. So I say to use all the characters allowed.
Blue crystal bud vase (four words, by the way) brings up results with titles that give me much more info about the thing I'm looking for:

·3 years agoNot saying you are wrong. all I'm saying is that the whole title is not considered by the search engine. Not saying there is not a benefit to having a good title.
What I am saying is that the title has only a small bit to do with a search. See post 20.
Everyone is free to believe it or dismiss it. For the OP, they are popping up in a search like anyone else is. It's a sea of collectable with fewer buyers than in the past. Maybe a great title will get a sale, or maybe only the best price will.
You sold over 70 items this month not too shabby. Not sure what your idea of limited sales would be.
gilleyscorner
OP3 years agoThat might be a number not quite accurate with a lot of non payments or cancelations. Been getting that lately people accepting offers and then not paying.

·3 years agoSo, hopefully, you know what to do when that happens.
Listing with FP, IPR usually puts an end to that situation.

·3 years ago@gilleyscorner there are thousands of sellers asking the same thing and many reasons have been given for slow sales. look up the posts to get ideas.
