Leaving Ebay - I've had enough
im fed up that eBay are charging my potential buyers around 25% extra (buyer protection fee) on the small value items that I used to sell, so I am now selling on another site. Also, my items were not showing up on searches. Raised with eBay and they never fixed or responded. Every time you try and remind them about the open issue it's back to square one. I am fed up with banging my head against the eBay brick wall. I will use another site to sell - after 21 years of being a member, but eBay don't care anyway.

If you had buyers who were being charged a buyer protection fee, your listings must have been showing up on searches.

·1 year agoA recent study indicated that eBay needs to lose around 3 million sellers. That will make the entire ecosystem better for all.

As for the 25% fee you claim buyers are being charged, if they're charged, it's because they agreed to it. Extra fees aren't required; they're optional and buyers can accept or decline.

·1 year agoPrivate Sellers in the UK get fee-free selling (I'm sure with caveats, but I haven't looked into it in great detail) but their buyers are charged a fee instead.

On eBay UK, private sellers (meaning those who are not registered as business sellers) who live in the UK don't pay any final value fees to sell on eBay. The FVF has been replaced by a 4% buyer protection fee, which is added on to the buyer's selling price transparently, (like the VAT is added). Edit: apparently it does not.

If OP has seen a 25% addition, that is probably including the 21% VAT in the UK.

·1 year agoMore than likely they are including the flat fee of 75p in that percentage. That fee alone make selling lower priced items impractical as a private seller.

When I just read your statement above ^^^^^ I went to check to see if eBay UK had changed their wording.
From one of the links you provided:

I see that it is still the same. They never do mention anything about the 24/7 customer service? Is it a bot? Is the foreign call center reps? As a buyer I would gladly give up paying the buyer protection fee and just call during business hours.
Seller not getting paid until delivery is suspect as well. Why should a buyer pay for that? That protects EBAY, and it has never mattered to a buyer if a seller's funds were held. The last sentence states the buyer is still covered by the MBG anyway (without the added expense). As a buyer I would gladly give up paying the buyer protection fee, and eBay could let the seller have the money. After all, I still have the MBG.
The part about payments is suspect as well. If the buyer does not pay the fee, does eBay use a lower tier of "payment partners" to handle the transaction? Is it an unsafe method as implied?
No matter how eBay spins this to a buyer, they really should be truthful.....Dear buyer, you basically get nothing that improves the buyer protection or the buyer experience that you had previously.

·1 year agoI remember hearing something about "personal" sellers in the UK not paying sellers fees anymore. There is a fee to the buyer instead. I'm pretty sure this is what I heard, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
