Leaving ebay
I started selling on ebay 19 years ago and did really good. But no more! With all the fees and them wanting you to promote listings which takes even more fees it is a waste of my time! A lot of work goes into buying, preparing items to list and then listing them. I will not promote my items to try and get them seen! It seems to me if you don't promote your items then they get shoved to the bottom! I am a small seller and can't make money for all my hard work if I have to give 30% of it to ebay! So I am quitting!

·6 months ago@sakic92710 boy, those shipping rates are killing you....$12 for a photo?...... just a heads up.....your description shows......... Shipping fees - Canada / USA : $5.00. on at least on a couple. could create confusion..........

·6 months agoYou don't have to use PL's if you don't want to. Many of us do not and still get consistent sales. If you have social medial accounts, use them to tell people about items you have for sale. It does help if you have a decent following.

·6 months agoSo... I guess you've found another platform that takes less of a percentage of sales? I don't know of one. Also see that you are selling several items you can find at Walmart. Those items are not wanted anywhere online. No offense but you can't expect sales when you have items no one is looking for...not even at a yard sale.
My wife and I have been selling since 1999 and never done promoted listings and we sell very well without it. It is just the 2 of us doing this, we have learned a lot and continue to. We started small but continue to expand, but do it all out of our house (storage in basement)

·6 months agoI have. 🙂 Marketplace takes 0%. On Tuesday, I just sent mail out from sales on there during the weekend. I have yet to have a Feb. sale on eBay. So, yes, sometimes eBay takes 0%, too. 😛

·6 months agocouldn’t agree with you more. Was just thinking where I can sell all my stuff. Not profitable anymore and the cost of doing business is getting out of hand.

If you're not happy working doing what you do then quit.
One should enjoy what one is doing and not just do it for a paycheck(money).
Perhaps...changing your business model is what you should do.
I was selling toys in the past and was in a rut similar to you.
I changed my business plan and started selling stamps.

·6 months agoThis response is a bit puzzling to me. What percentage of working individuals actually like their job? A very HIGH % do not. Most tolerate it for, you guessed it, the paycheck. If you are in the position of enjoying what you do, congratulations on that aspect of your life. 🙂

·6 months agoSpeaking of working in an office, some big union in Canada is planning to strike because their workers are being told they have to go to work at the office 4 days a week! I guess all of those that 'prefer' to work at home will have to start putting their pants back on.

eBay also "wants" $2-$4 for bold, $1.50-$6 for a subtitle, $5+ for a reserve price, and $1 for a short duration. But those don;t waste any of my time, because I never use them.
It seems to me if you don't promote your items then they get shoved to the bottom!
If you have the powest price and the buyer sorts by price, you get shoved to the top, not the bottom. And when you sell items that only have a couple competitors, being "shoved to the bottom" means you are still near the top.

·6 months agoThe fees are transparent, known in advance & are comparable to most places. No one allows you to sell without a piece of the action when they own the place your selling it on. More bots get added daily than ppl making a fuss by claiming they quit.
I don't promote & do just fine with my sales.

·6 months agoWell I just read a thread about eBay aquiring Depop (clothing peer to peer etc.) Clothing sellers on eBay are just about to get even more competition it seems.....................

·6 months agoThat's funny coming from someone with no listings. You fooled me, I thought for sure you would have been a top seller with listings in the 1000's. James sometimes people just need to vent their fustrations without others sarcasm replys. You have too much time on your hands, for that kind of reply, but thanks for the chuckle.

The OP wasn't merely venting. The title of their thread is literally "Leaving eBay." The people who do that hurt for attention, which is why they do it. They are the same ones who make other such public announcements that nobody cares about, like those who post on X and elsewhere what they ate for lunch, who they slept with last night, etc.
As far as your comment to @jameshen1 , not to speak for them, but many people have multiple eBay accounts and do not post here under their selling account. The fact they have no listings on their posting account, doesn't mean they've not sold 100k items over the past 20 years.

·6 months agoKeep in mind that promoting listings is not mandatory; it is optional. It is something I have never paid for.

·6 months agoYou are selling used clothing which is the most over-saturated category on eBay and other online selling venues. Spending money on promoting doesn't help and you don't need to do that.
If you like the selling part, you could also try branching out more, selling things other than clothes. Garage sale season is getting ready to start before long and that is a good source to find knick-knacks and other things to resell.

·6 months agoUnfortunately not all sellers make it. Comes down to price and demand. If your prices are over in comparison to what others are listed for then your item will not sell. If there a lot of the same item listed or not sold at all then the demand is low. Clothes can take awhile to sell and with fees yes you will have to increase prices in order to make money. Also listing constantly helps. If you let stuff sit for awhile then there is little chance of getting sales or offers. I have had stuff sit for years which is why I constantly list different things.

The 'Wrangler Red Shirt' : there are 2 others being sold for $20 and $25 shipped while you are $14 (to me in NV).
There is room to 'cover' some of that and still make some $$.
Selling clothing; you won't hurt anyone but yourself to leave as there is 'just a few' others competing in your category:

·6 months agoThe fee structure is a burden for many sellers & promoting does not help matters, If you can't find a Happy medium & still profit, Then I can understand your situation, I use to do much better than I do now, But for now I still manage to take in a decent extra amount for the year so I keep plugging along, Good Luck to you!
