Just got my 1st return on the new automatic systen and a few questions.
So as I said, we just got our first return on the new automatic free return system.
The reason is 'changed my mind'. So do we still have to pay the original AND return
postage? On Amazon and other online marketplaces 'free' returns are only free when there is an
issue with the transaction, otherwise the buyer pays. So will we have to pay the original and return postage?

·10 months agoI had my first return a few months ago...remorse... buyer already had it.
It states in my items 'returns in 14 days but buyer pays for return shipping' which is supposed to be taken out of the refund.
I had item + 'buyer shipping' on hold.
After 30 days nothing returned and no tracking.
You would think after 14 days with no tracking it would close.
It was still open waiting for me to refund.
So I got stuck refunding the item + buyer shipping.
Good ol' artificial intelligence.
Contest it and it might have cost another $20...so I let it go.

·10 months agoYou will have to pay for return shipping, but the original shipping cost you don't have to refund.
Basically you and the buyer will each be out one direction of shipping.

·10 months agoThis is exactly why one strategy to offset the free return risk is to sell the item at a lower cost and have a higher shipping charge. You get to keep whatever amount was allocated for shipping, no matter what the cost of the label was. It is a "legal" way to build in a restocking fee without saying that is what you are doing.

·10 months agoNormally, when customer opens return using reason "buyer's remorse/change my mind" you would only refund "purchase price". However, because you offer FREE RETURNS you have to pay for all returns (no matter what the reason).
EBAY has new policy requiring all sellers of "new auto parts" to offer "free returns". Selling vehicles, parts, and accessories | eBay

·10 months agoFree returns does not mean you have to refund the original shipping cost though.
I just had a return the other day from a buyer who changed their mind. When issuing the refund, the default option was refunding zero of the shipping fees paid, and the item cost only. And all of my listings have free returns, even the 'for parts' items.

OP10 months agoFor auto parts the returns are automatic. It's not a choice, Ebay has spoken.
You aren't involved in the least. You are just notified to expect a return.
Period
No options to do anything. They say they'll cover 1/2 the postage. Not sure if that on purchase or return.
We'll see.
