Just got a Payment dispute filed for not received.
Summary: cheech2021 shared their experience of receiving a payment dispute due to a buyer not receiving an item, despite USPS tracking indicating delivery. They were concerned about an unexplained address change and its implications. spreadlovelikefire reassured them that they were protected under eBay's seller protection policy. mam98031 and other participants advised to stick to factual information and use the tracking details in the dispute process if needed. cheech2021 later confirmed that the issue was resolved without requiring further action on their part. The discussion contained various perspectives on seller protection and eBay's dispute handling procedures.
Hello, I love the help I get by reading this forum.
I just received a payment ($15 bucks) dispute.......they disputed a charge directly with their payment institution the reason for this dispute is that the buyer hasn't received their item yet.
USPS tracking showed delivered. How ever during the delivery days I seen for the first time on the tracking, a address change request, and then today when I looking, during the tracking history they call it now a Forward Processed. Then Out for delievry, Then Delivered
I never request a address change. What happens now. It was not delivery I assume at the address on the order, but that was out of my hands?
Thanks

·3 weeks agoThanks — that helps. I’m testing a small tool built around exactly this kind of confusion. I’ve got a short demo if you’d be open to taking a look and telling me what feels useful or unnecessary.

·3 weeks agoGlad it got resolved. One quick question — while the dispute was still open, what was the most confusing part for you: knowing whether you needed to take action, understanding seller protection, or knowing what evidence eBay already had?

Just curious - following the forwarding of the item, was the delivery zip code the same one as the original ship to zip?
cheech2021
OP3 weeks agoYes, I just looked same zip code

·3 weeks agoThat’s a confusing situation. Since the tracking showed delivered but also showed the forwarding/address change, did the dispute page make it clear whether eBay already had everything it needed from you, or whether you still needed to submit anything yourself?
cheech2021
OP3 weeks agoThanks, everything got resolved, I had nothing else to do,

·1 month agoDon't trust eBay to do anything for you. YOU must put the tracking number and Proof of Delivery into the dispute or you will lose.
Do it now, if you have not already.
EBay has the information, but wants the seller to be actively involved in solving the problem.
mam98031
·1 month agoThat doesn't have anything to do with Ebay doing something for you. The process for processing a claim like this tells sellers to re-enter the tracking number. Yes Ebay already has the information and IDK why we must re-enter it, but the policy says to do that and it says nothing about Ebay doing it for you. So that may be an expectation you will always be disappointed with.

OP1 month agoThanks, this is what I received from EBay,
There is no payment on hold to go to, so just waiting to hear back
Hi PXXXX,
Your buyer filed a payment dispute for an order placed on August 17, 2026. This means that they disputed a charge directly with their payment institution. They are requesting $11.93 back and the reason for this dispute is that the buyer hasn't received their item yet.
The good news is that you’re protected for this dispute under eBay seller protection policy. We'll close this dispute once we receive the dispute outcome from the buyer’s payment institution. You're not required to take any action right now. If the buyer updates the dispute, we will let you know if any further action is required.
To look into this further, you can go to the payment dispute details page.

·1 month agoExcellent. You are covered as Ebay said, there is nothing for you to do.
cheech2021
OP1 month agoOk, thanks very much....!

·1 month agoEbay was very clear in their message to you. I'm unsure as to why you had any concern. The refund, if any, will NOT come from your money.
cheech2021
OP1 month agoThanks. Since the package was not delivered to the address on the order.
Ok, yes things happened in the middle, but at the end the day, the package was not delivered to the address on the order, as the rule reads. It's no biggie I was just wondering how it will end. Thanks again

·1 month agoAt times eBay will ask you to verify the tracking number by reentering it into dispute even though it is shown right above the block where you must enter it.
Perhaps this will be a continuing service of eBay to verify receipt of item with the tracking number they have on file without expecting the Seller to reenter it.

·1 month agoThe buyer may have been having their mail at the post office forwarded because they moved. That can easily happen if the buyer filed the correct forms with USPS but then forgot to update Ebay with their new ship to address.
You should be covered by Seller Protection, even though your buyer did a Chargeback with their Credit Card company. You have the tracking to prove delivery and that is how you should respond to the claim. Noting the tracking number and the fact that tracking shows delivered. No need to go into the details. Just keep it factual and brief.
If you have any other issues, please come back and let us help you through it.

·1 month agoYou should have seller protection if it tracking shows delivered. When you go into the dispute, what does it say at the top? Does it say you have seller protection? Does it say you have to provide more information?
cheech2021
OP1 month agoThanks Yes I do have the protection,
The good news is that you’re protected for this dispute under eBay seller protection policy. We'll close this dispute once we receive the dispute outcome from the buyer’s payment institution. You're not required to take any action right now. If the buyer updates the dispute, we will let you know if any further action is required.

·1 month agoPerfect! Then there is nothing to do. Ebay is protecting you. It will close out when their bank responds but either way you won't be out anything.
cheech2021
OP1 month agoOk well thanks, even though in a simple form, "it was not delivered to the address on the order".
Now if other things happen during that time, that was out of my control, but in the simple form, I lose? Thank again
