I did everything right, the buyer did everything wrong, he keeps my item AND the money and my only recourse is to vent to the community. The photos and VIDEO on my listing showed the item he received working perfectly. Upon delivery he started right away with "let's keep this simple: refund me or I'll just grab the funds back". I pleaded with him to explain what was wrong but he simply repeated the demand and threat. I spoke with eBay and was assured I was under no obligation to refund. If he filed a dispute all the evidence would be examined. After two more rounds of "please describe what's wrong" and "look just refund me" he filed. I contacted eBay again, expressed my concern about the prevailing belief that buyers always lose. Was assured that if I appealed the dispute in the time allotted and included relevant evidence eBay would "have my back", using those words exactly. Of course I complied with thorough evidence. The buyer offered NONE. Decision: for the thief/I mean "buyer". Customer service was very sympathetic, agreed I'd been robbed and promised to "escalate" my case. Two weeks later I followed up to hear a gentle explanation that nothing can be done when the buyer's payment institution (American Express in this case) rules in his favor. Turns out AmEx does not require evidence to refund a member. Ebay did refund my dispute fee and remove the negative feedback he'd left me (my first ever, I didn't keep it simple enough for him), but the bottom line: Seller Protection is false hope. What also hurts is I left him positive feedback when he initially paid, as is my habit, and it can't be retracted or edited. Thanks for reading. As I wrote, venting is my only recourse.
