Items sold from store that had already been sold
I have had a store on Ebay for 20 years. On occasion I have had something purchased, which had been previously sold. It happened normally around Christmas. This week I have had two items sold that were sold more than a year ago. I don't sell items anywhere else except on Ebay. This morning a person purchased an item, that I know for certain was not listed in my store, because I had just added a new item from the same product recently. I knew what I had listed for this item (I knew what I had in stock and what I was selling in my store). Therefore, are the robots at Ebay making a mistake? Is there a glitch in Ebay's software? Or is this just a way for Ebay to make money from my giving a refund? This is extremely frustrating for me and my customer. Plus it is a waste of my time. When I sell something from my database, I automatically delete the photos. So this has to be an error within Ebay programming. When I do, after much effort, actually talk to a person on Ebay about the problem, they have no idea what I inquiring about.

On this ID, never had a ghost.
On other ID we've had 80 plus since ID was started in 2016 to sell record collection, as in one of each record, so when sold it's gone.
One 45 has 'sold' SIX TIMES. A couple of others 4, 5 times. All were auctions at first, so we were able to 'find' the ghosts - when they got bids. Two were bid on at the last second so got 'sold' - We send those buyers a photo of our invoice showing the original sale months earlier.
But now what's left are BINs and so sending original sale info from the order page, but the last one sold two plus years ago so we used the photos from the 'sold six times' 45 to prove it's not us just trying to back out of sale.
As of now all the buyers have understood. As of now.

seriously - supposed ghost listings aren’t that difficult to create. I don’t really want to get into the “how†right now - it has been explained before. Plenty of tricks to avoid them AND catch them.

Because it's a glitch - a sudden, usually temporary malfunction or irregularity of equipment - affecting some but not all accounts. As we said in first post this ID has never had it happen, other ID has had 80 plus. Sold listing reappearing 18/20 months later. Original listings long gone from the sold list. Photos deleted. Gone. Done. And then sold again. ALSO unsold listings getting duplicated so two get relisted.
Be happy you have never had the problem.
If it happened to everybody all the time it's not a glitch, it's the norm.

·3 years agoThis is a known glitch that happens once every blue moon. Ebay of course denies it, being a corporation they of course deny any wrongdoing on the advice of their legal team, and ascribes it to user error.

·3 years ago999 times out of a thousand - and I’m being generous - a ghost listing is due to a seller mistake. Sorry, happens to the best of us.

·3 years agoDid you have a quantity set up on that listing ? That is actually the only way something can appear again once it is sold. If not, you just did not realize the item was never deleted from you unsold history. The way Ebay works is items renew every 30 days. It is a MUST that you always check and delete unsold items or archive them.

·3 years agoWhy would you need to delete or archive unsold items? When they roll over on GTC they don't go into unsolds and start new listings fgs.

·3 years ago@coolections you are incorrect. There has been a documented known glitch for many years here in eBay that randomly relists items that have already been sold. No rhyme to reason. It happened to me this week as well for one item. It usually occurs 5 or 6 times a year for us.
We e hoping that will all the new code and programming they have been doing that this glitch would have been resolved but it has not.
I have noticed also that when you get a return and select refund and relist.... It often never relists the item. Maybe this issues are connected?.....

·3 years agoebay had send an email to me a month or two back that they had a Glitch one day that added items that were out of stock as back in stock and I would not get a negative against me if I cancelled.
