Item was sold but still shows as for sale in my EBAY store
Summary: In the discussion, jlent9999 and other participants discuss a perplexing situation where an item was marked as sold but is still listed as available for sale in the eBay store. chapeau-noir mentions that it might be a 'ghost listing,' a known issue where items appear for sale despite being sold. They emphasize the importance of catching these errors in time before they result in any problems. Meanwhile, a different branch of the conversation involves a back-and-forth between deltilogical and reallynicestamps, though the details of their exchange are not clear. Overall, the conversation centers around troubleshooting and understanding the ghost listing phenomena on eBay.
I recently sold a Dale Earnhardt magazine, processed and shipped the magazine. But that same magazine still shows as for sale in my EBAY store. I thought I might have made a duplicate listing in error so I deleted the magazine in my EBAY store, which then showed up as deleted in my Inactive listings. I went back and checked my EBAY store again just to make sure the listing was removed. However, the magazine still shows as for sale in my EBAY store but now has a different item number than the original magazine I sold.
Anyone else having this problem?

·4 months agoI just found about 30 cards I listed in Nov but can no longer see a trace of in the system.
If I had time I'd run a report every day of the listings that day so I have a record...I can't think of any other way to monitor this situation.

·4 months ago@deltilogical That's the opposite problem - eBay deleting listings (usually long tail collectibles) without notifying the seller.
I was revamping one of my Stores recently and found that of the 2000+ books on my shelves , less than 1000 were actually up on eBay. Since I was dropping books as a product line this was not a concern, although it did indicate why sales were poor.
More important of the 1500+ sewing patterns I had uploaded fewer than 400 were actually showing. And sales of that product had been relatively strong.
I am now in the process of scanning , describing and uploading hundreds of patterns.

·4 months agoWow, that is a lot of work to lose.
"of the 1500+ sewing patterns I had uploaded fewer than 400 were actually showing."
I am thinking about running a report at the end of each day when I am loading new listings, the report would just show the new listings so I have some confirmation to go back to. Its something that could be automated on a business platform.

·4 months agoAs pointed out by others it was most likely a ghost listing, I have had some from time to time.As long as you or they catch them in time before they sell, They don't pose a problem.

·4 months agoThat's the problem I had and why I thought they were ghost listings rather than mistakes on my part. They were never in my store - apparently just on the site.

No. I don't have any Dale Earnhardt magazines showing in my store.

OP4 months agoThanks, but I was really speaking about sold items in general. The Dale Earnhardt magazine was the specific problem in my case. I just checked my EBAY store and the magazine is now gone.

·4 months agoThere can be a time delay.
But eBay is known for ghost listings and for denying that they can exist.
chapeau-noir
·4 months agoThey finally actually admitted that they DO exist and were asking account holders for their experiences.

·4 months agoWhen were they asking about that?, I have had a few over time, But none recently.
