Item damaged through UPS
An item was damaged on delivery. I started a claim with UPS, they requested a letter from myself to issue refund to receiver. But how does it work through ebay? If UPS sends the refund directly to the buyer how would ebay know it was returned. what about the charges for the tax will those also be refunded through UPS for the full amount ? how can i speak to an ebay rep?

·3 weeks ago · EditedBecause eBay is the account holder for UPS and FedEx labels bought through them, only the seller can file a claim successfully on them (normal shipments either party can file). Sellers must follow the instructions linked to here: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/shipcover/shipping-insurance-shipcover?id=4643#section3
So get the item returned (unless the buyer is keeping it), refund through the return request and file the claim as shown above.

·Aug 17, 2026 at 10:12 PMWHAT? UPS should NEVER be issuing a refund to your Buyer. They don't have the records to even know how much the buyer paid much less anything else. It is ALWAYS to the shipper. Besides, the only thing they would refund would be the shipping and maybe an insurance claim, which the shipper provides the information.
Once you get the refund from UPS for the insurance claim, then make sure your buyer is made whole. You can do that by going to the Order screen for the item. Click on the three vertical dots and a drop down menu will appear. Select Refund and follow the instructions on your screen.
OR you can have the buyer file an INR and you can refund from the claim.

·Aug 17, 2026 at 8:45 PMI would let the payment go to the receiver if that is what UPS wants to do. Keep all documentation that shows payment was made to the receiver. If they pay less than the full amount the buyer paid you may owe the buyer a little refund.

If UPS pays the buyer, Ebay would still have the seller refund the buyer.
