Item Bought After Listing Expired?
An item I had listed for a basic auction expired back on November 2nd. I was going to wait a bit and relist, but today I got what looks to be an authentic message from ebay saying my item sold for the minimum amount listed on November 12th.
I had no Buy It Now available, it was a straight 10 day auction that had expired. The buyer did not make the purchase while the item was listed and it was not a Second Chance offer that I accepted.
Is this some new weird ebay thing that they sell your stuff when it isn't listed? The item had been listed twice, with no buyers.

·2 years agoI never heard of such a thing happening. Call ebay up or message them to make sure there really was a sale before you do anything.

I looked at your completed listings, and it looks like your auctions were being relisted automatically. This is a feature that eBay offers for new or occasional sellers, where they will relist your auction-format listings up to 8 times if they are unsold.

You had one item that has been listed 3 times in auction. The first time was a 10-day auction, from Oct 13 to Oct 23. Then it was automatically relisted twice, as 10-day auctions, from Oct 23 to Nov 2, and from Nov 2 to Nov 12. You can tell they were automatic relists, because they were relisted within less than a minute after the previous one ended.
So the item was listed 3 times, and the 2nd and 3rd times were automatic relists.

I'll bet this means ebay will charge me for the listing I never posted...
Is there any way to turn that 'feature' OFF?

·2 years agoIf and when the buyer pays, you will be charged for the FVF on the price + shipping + sales tax - the total payment made by the buyer.
You did post this when you listed the auction. You had the option of checking to relist up to 8 times if the item doesn't sell.
You can turn the auto-relist off on future listings but you're obligated to follow through on this one.

·2 years agoI doubt that with the # of listings that you have that eBay would be charging you a "listing fee"
Also this, box checked agreeing to the auto relist, item is by past experience generally a "free" relisting action

You won't be charged an insertion fee for the relists, the 8 relists are done for free if it doesn't sell the first time. That's explained in the link I provided. For the first time, every seller gets at least 250 listings with free insertion fees each month, so probably no insertion fee for that one either. Just the final value fee that you always have to pay, calculated from the buyer's total payment.
Yes, you can turn 8-free-relists feature off when you make the listing. The default setting is on, so you would need to find it in the optional settings and turn it off.

OP2 years agoYeah, I swear I never saw that when I created the listing, and I did so very carefully--I'm an experienced seller, but it had been a while since I'd listed anything for sale.
I've been a buyer/seller since May 2000 and have FB in the mid-800's. Very unpleasant that ebay penalizes sellers who've been away for a while or have infrequent sales--moving, dealing with MIL AND my mom both declining in health, going into hospice care, clearing out their homes and MIL passing away took precedence. Because of that, ebay is holding the funds for the sale I just made until Feb 28th, and even after THAT, won't release the funds to me till the buyer confirms he got the item. An excuse for them to hold that money and use it before sending it to me.
Not what you'd call a smart business model, and this finishes it--I'm done with ebay.

·2 years agoWas this just a message through ebay messaging or did you get a email about it? If it was a email and no message in your ebay messages then I would send the email to ebay's spoof email service. I've had to do that a few times myself. Scammers will do anything to scam anyone out of money or items, from ebay items to even houses. Ebay bots do sometimes sell items a seller had that were even out of stock. One item I did sell out of that ebay bots sold I did happen to have more so I was able to send the sold item out.

You wouldn't accept an SCO. You would send that, for the buyer to accept.
