Item automatically sold for less than listed price
Hello eBay community,
I just sold a set of toy figures for 42usd but listing price is $46. Free shipping. No offers given. The listing is a BIN type listing so does not have an "best offer" option. I did not offer anyone any discounts.
This has not happened before. I sold the same figures just a few days ago to another buyer and no problems then. Very strange.
Has this ever happened to anyone else recently?
I check similar blogs and a similar case happened to an unfortunate seller in 2019 but no follow answer as to whether it is a computer glitch by ebay or a hacker able to adjust prices on eBay or not. I plan to contact eBay during office hours.

·2 years agoThis is still an on going issue that I have had happen several times this year, 2024! I had two that dropped the price well below the COG's! I went back through my offers sent out and there wasn't an offer on the said items. I next went through the listing an the automatically accept tab was turned off! This issue has caused an issues with one of my buyers.

OP2 years agoThanks for your message. I didn't find out why in the end but luckily it only happened once so far. Have you perhaps considered phoning eBay customer service about it?

When you are listing did you not see the note posted just before you list it?
It says"To improve your chances of selling, we may send you offers from buyers that you can choose to accept or decline."

OP3 years agoNo, I didn't notice it until now, but I did not receive any offers from buyers for me to choose to accept or not. if eBay had sent one to me, I would know since it is something which would have happened 1 day ago. Regardless, thank you for pointing out the fine print to me.
eBay sort of snuck that in.. may not have anything to do with your issue, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

OP2 years agoYes, I did but the strange thing is I never received any offers from eBay for me to decline; it was sold at a reduced price right away. Even the buyer was contacted about this and he said he did not send me an offer; he just bought it straight off without haggling. So weird. Luckily, this only happened once so far.

·3 years agoYes, it happens that listed prices are lowered automatically; eBay thing of some sort. And International Shipping will also be re-added to listings. Both must be checked regularly to maintain what you initially set.

·3 years agoBe careful when /if you are listing from the app or making copies of existing listings to edit for different item specifics.... Ebay will AUTOMATICALLY set your listings to accept offers and drop a 50% reduced price to accept. I have had to change this so many times on listings where I use the app.

OP3 years agoReally? EBay takes over your listing and allows you to automatically sell at half price???!!! That's very bad!

·3 years agoWeird. I don't like fielding offers so I usually don't set up listings that way. On occasion, eBay changes the default listing and I will accidentally list a Buy it Now with offers enabled. And once, I accidentally listed something as accepting offers, got a somewhat reasonable offer that I still wanted to reject but I accidentally accepted it on my phone. That was on me though.

·3 years agoThere is a setting on the offers that allows ebay to send offers automatically once you have sent one.....uses the same price as you sent originally........

·2 years agoThis just happened to me on two items. I thought I had lost my mind bc I had not sent any offers on these two items. I am trying to locate where this above image was screen taken from. Can you advise me on this matter? Again I had two items sell for less than listing price, one today and one a week or so ago.

question... Do you have the automatic accept setup in your policies? Some policies override what you have in your listings.

OP3 years agoNo, I am not aware of having any auto accept setup. Anyways, I have been selling these toys for years and this is the first time such an event had occurred.

I checked the seller hub as some of you have suggested.
Indeed I found that there was an offer yesterday to the most recent buyer indicated there and he accepted it.
However, what bothers me is that, I did not use eBay for the past 2 days. Hence, I did not make any offers to anyone. I am the only one who can access my eBay account.
There used to be an obvious function on my selling hub page which allowed me to see which items are eligible for offering a lower price to sellers who were watching. However, I haven't been able to locate this button for the past few weeks / months. So, I couldn't send any offers. Moreover, there were no buyers who wrote to me about this product recently, so no offers were handed out at all. I'm saying that the fact that there was an offer and someone accepted it yesterday is totally unbelievable even though this is what my seller hub states!
Therefore, this situation is still a mystery to me. I would own up to my own mistakes IF I MADE ONE. But I didn't even do it!

·3 years agoWhen I look at your "Sold" items, the last thing I see that you sold was on January 21st, for $46, with free shipping. Is that what you are talking about?

Check your seller hub to make sure. If it looks like the image that I'm posted, Ebay does that automatically. Some like it, I personally do not. I do not accept best offers and most of the other features. I noticed it last week on the right hand side. Also check your shipping preferences. I only ship to Canada, however the international Ebay shipping feature was enabled when I looked at it. It also states see all options. Make sure to check all your listings as well:
A hacker did that work to save $4? Come on - you know that doesn’t sound right. Or, a glitch occurs once every few years - to one buyer each time?
The obvious culprit is seller error - sorry.

·3 years agoAccording to the purchase history for that listing, there was an offer accepted yesterday, Jan 24.
As you say, the listing does not have best offer enabled, so there must have been an offer sent from the seller's account. I would check that in your seller hub.
