Italian buyer claiming I need to contact US customs to clear a package that’s in Italian customs
Don’t know what to do in this situation. Two of his orders are stuck in Italian customs. One of which is over 90 days old, the other is little over 60 days old. He is messaging me claiming he was told by Italian customs that only I can clear the package. I replied asking. “Did they say what they need and do you have a way to contact them?â€. He replied that I need to contact US customs to clear the package. This makes no sense to me as the packages are in Italian customs. Both packages were shipped with USPS first class package international. USPS doesn’t do anything about customs issues for this service. Surely this is something that has to be resolved with Italian customs not US customs?

·10 months agoThe Italian postal clearance system is terrible as is all the italian postal system.
Did you complete form CN22 for customs clearance?
As the buyers to forward you the emails they received from italian customers then use google translate, this may be a lost in translation.
Whats even more strange is how long they have held the parcels, they usually bin them in the dumpster afert 30 days of unpaid fees.

Or simply return to the sender.

·10 months agoFrom exeperience a postal service returning an item to the sender can be hit or miss, depending on the country and protocol sometimes new paperwork has to be written to get back through customs in the senders country, if not completed correctly the seller has to pay import duty on the returned item, not all countries are like the UK where just putting a blue crayon cross on the item is enough, I have had items returned and when they are scanned here on elivery to me the scan shows as delivered which is a win because the tracking shows as delivered on ebay and the buyer cant win a non delivery case against me.

·10 months agoTracking states items are still in customs or is this just what buyer is saying?
If tracking shows items in Italy you done your part.
And wondering why 60-90 days past and this is an ongoing situation.
I would have done something around 30 days.

OP10 months agoTracking states it’s still in customs. Buyer waited that long to contact me.

·10 months agoWe take a chance as to whether the package did or didn't get scanned as 'delivered'.
It's possible it might have been delivered but didn't get a scan after in customs.
Has expected 'delivery date' passed as to eBay not updating these items?
eBay does update delivery dates in the item sold while in transit.
I have been there with eBay updating 'deliveries'.
It shouldn't take that long to clear customs and buyer kinda waited too long.
Check buyer's feedbacks to see feedbacks given and left.
I have had a few sad situations when in Italy.
It's like one has to bribe someone with $$ to get anything done there.
Like when you need something fix or such...above the labor + cost of item with a bribe.

·10 months agoI would attempt to help The buyer. As a seller do your part then forward this to the buyer and tell them they’re going to have to take it forward from here cause everything is correct on your end. But double check that everything “is†correct on your end

·10 months agoFor the OP:
IMO there comes a time when the responsibility switches from
the Seller to the buyer.
You did all you are supposed to do. The items are in Italy. The buyer
is also in Italy. You are NOT in Italy.
I'm not sure what the buyer expects the seller to do.
