A good scam only has to hook a few fish. The OP was suspicious and came here for advice. The OP is at best 1 out of 10, the other 9 have already been hooked.
My email address is "out there" and has been for the 25 years I've been using it. I get at least a couple and often up to a dozen phishing messages EVERY day. While I've never been fooled there are no doubt millions of eBay users who are not so sharp.

I'd add a step before that of clicking the three dots in the top right and choosing Report Message. That makes sure eBay is made aware so they can hopefully shut down these messages (all too common).
If eBay sends you an eBay message, it will be addressed to you by full name, and will not come from a random username with a number in it; it will come from eBay and will appear in your eBay messages under "From eBay". eBay will never ask you to copy and paste something into your browser address bar -- that is something scammers often do, though.
