Is there a way out of this mess?
I posted a few days ago about this situation. But, I could use some help with resolving it.
Buyer spent a couple days choosing 16 items from my store. Bought them separately over 2 days. All show up with different order numbers. Was given discounts & I combined shipment and all were shipped together. Bought 4/6. Delivered 4/10.
On the 30th day after receiving them she files returns on all 16 saying Ordered by Mistake. Saying she just did it in case she wants to return one or more. Hadn't decided. And knew she had only 30 days to decide. Ebay gave her until 6/1 to return. I provided return label and told her to ship all back under that one label. I showed the return label under each of the 16 items. I have 16 returns sitting waiting on her to ship.
Yesterday, she called eBay and opened a dispute. Here's her message to me:
"Thank you so very VERY much Bill!! I am ever so grateful for you!Oh my goodness, life has been challenging, My mom is in the ER...and I called Ebay today and let them know that I haven't even gotten to look at these items yet, and that if I want to return anything I will mail them by or before Friday.I understand you provided a return label connected to this brooch (thank you!), and I may want to keep this brooch...Should I ask you for a return label once I have decided which items I want to return, if I choose not to return this brooch?Thank you for letting me know, and for being YOU!!!In gratitude,"
So, there is a dispute filed. eBay says it is on hold until 5/31. They are holding my funds on this 1 item.
All 16 items are showing the same return label. Is it going to show all returned and have me refunding all no matter what she sends back? Should I tell her to cancel the returns on the ones she doesn't ship back?
I don't want to have to refund on items she doesn't return just because she is milking the return system.
All I want is to be done with this buyer, refund what she returns and NOT be charged for items she keeps. Is there a way out of this mess?

·4 months agoI recently had a problem with customer who purchased "new pants" and returned "dirty tee shirt". EBAY gave me a "full refund" (out of their money) after I "reported buyer" (and provided evidence).
To report buyer, click on open return there is a small box that you can click on "report buyer" (then you provide photos and explain exactly what happened). I would include all the messages that customer sent you about returning only 1 item.
The good thing is this customer seems very scattered and is taking her time about returning that item. Perhaps she will neglect to return the item by 6/1 deadline.
The problem with "combined shipping" customer can claim 1 item missing from the package (hard to prove otherwise). With EBAY Automated Return System if customer "open returns" you have to give them a "full refund" for all the items (unless you can prove fraud).
Good luck to you, I hope everything works out in your favor.

·4 months agoWOW, Total abuse of the system, Sorry for her Mom being in the ER, But that is NO excuse for what she is doing, She should not be able to get away with this, Hopefully ebay will see the Blatant abuse of the system & favor on your side, Otherwise only refund what she returns I guess, She should be forced to keep them all & you keep your money, Good Luck to you!!

·4 months agoLate to the party on this one but my gut tells me what I would do. She opened up returns for everything then that what I expect to get back - Everything. That way you don't have to worry about the possibility of her getting free stuff. If she still wants something out of it tell her to rebuy what she wants after its relisted and you'll resend it to her. And don't discount anything for her in the future. Tell her she created a situation that can only be fixed this way. Explain to her what you are faced with just like you did here. Of course, this only applies if you want to deal with her anymore.

·4 months agoIf they were different orders, don't you have to provide a label for each order?
authentic*vintage
·4 months agoIt was suggested in the previous thread that the seller issue one label as opposed to 16 different labels because the seller offers free returns he will be on the hook for 16 return labels.

·4 months agoPutting myself in that numpty buyer's shoes (which are kind of tight, plus I look terrible in heels), I would guess that even if she received 16 return labels, she's not going to bother making up 16 different return packages, but simply throw all 16 items into one box.
If there's no process for combining a return shipment of multiple orders (I'm not sure that there is), I would do the 16 return labels anyway, just to fulfill the process on my end, and then tell the buyer that she is free to use just one label and put all her returns in one box. You will not be charged for labels that are not used.

·4 months agoIf it's different orders, each order will need a different shipping label.
If they provide 1 shipping label and the buyer returns them all in 1 package, buyer has no proof the other orders were returned.

·4 months ago...which would be the buyer's problem, not the seller's. 😉 Realistically, I doubt that's an issue that would even occur to her.
I'm not suggesting that the seller should only refund for the item whose Return label was used. The buyer should be refunded for whatever items are returned, but it will save the seller a lot of Return shipping expense if the buyer can be persuaded to do just one return shipment instead of sixteen.

OP4 months agoYes, I did. I provided one and it's showing provided under each one. She paid 1 shipping charge & got combined shipping. I shouldn't have to pay shipping x 16 items. She can use 1 label and combine shipping back.

·4 months agoOhhhhh... well then, yeah, you had one package going out, and get one package coming back, and refund for whatever is inside it.
P.S. Yes, I suppose there is a risk of her cherry-picking a few items and returning the rest, but hopefully you can do a partial refund of the appropriate amount.

·4 months agoI'd just sit tight and see what's in the returned package. At this point there isn't anything to be done. It's a remorse return (Ordered by Mistake) so you'll be able to deduct your original shipping from the refund at the bare minimum.
Wait til you see what's in the box, if it even gets returned, and go from there. At the moment your cart is before your horse. Who knows, you may get all of your items back exactly as you sent them...

·4 months agoI would contact ebay myself, showing them the messages you received from this buyer.
It's a long shot, but maybe they'll see what's going on and close the cases in your favor given the abuse that is happening here.

·4 months agoThere is no way out of the mess until or after the return date passes or she returns the items. (or fails to return them on time, but don't be surprised if eBay gives her more time)
And then you should have some recourse if she returns them damaged or does not return everything.
Aren't you eligible to withhold something if it is a faulty return? Of course, you can't know or do anything until the items are returned.
I'm sure waiting and wondering is hard, but this buyer seems to know the ropes of returning items. You just have to wait it out to resolve this. It sounds like you somehow want to preempt her from returning the items or protect yourself if she doesn't return everything. You just can't do that until the items are returned.

·4 months agoYou can always report the buyer for misuse of returns once a return has been made. What type of dispute did she file?
And let me add that I can't say what I want to say about this buyer in this form because I would lose my posting privileges today.
I had a buyer one time tell me that she liked to see rings set up in a photograph in little pretty rows and could I do that for her.
This is giving the same energy.
