Is there a movement somewhere online that's telling buyers to just specifically troll me?
I have a buyer who purchased a sweatshirt from me at $24.37 + shipping and tax. I get a message that from her that says "Hello! I just purchased 4 shirts. Can I get 4 different colors please? I would like red, white, charcoal gray, and gray. Thank you!"
This purchase is only 1 one sweatshirt, so I tell them that's all the purchases I see from this account. Then I ask if there are other orders for this item, to show me the order numbers for them.
They reply "I put 4 in the cart. On the order details it's showing a total payment of $33.82 which would be the price for 3 correct?" Here's the screenshot she attached.
😕. Like honestly, what in that screen shot gives any indication that the purchase is for multiple items? She recognizes the $33.82 price but doesn't see the (1 item) shown right next to it??? I'm being punked or trolled right? In what world does 3 sweatshirts with shipping and tax included cost $34 these days? Buyer also fails to see everything else below that in her shot that itemizes her order, showing only 1 item. And what's with this "$33.82 being the correct price for 3" question? In her first message I thought she claimed she bought four!
PS. Buyer isn't a new buyer. Decade old account with almost 200 feedbacks as a buyer and I don't see any negs given to sellers. There's gotta be a post somewhere online telling weird buyers to mess with me.

·4 months agoI could only guess that she put 3 more items in the cart from other sellers, then failed to notice that they were from other sellers, not all from you. As for her also losing track of whether she's talking about 1, 3 or 4 shirts, I can't say. Some people are just... you know...
I would just respond by saying something along the lines of, "You only purchased one shirt from me, for a total cost of (whatever). If you had other shirts in your cart as well, those must have been listed by other sellers." Keep the explanation real simple and clear. Maybe light will dawn for her. Maybe not.

I think your sweatshirt buyer is used to Wally World/Amazon Throw-Away prices. Yeah, I'd explain that the price is for ONE sweatshirt - I try to soften my remarks with something about eBay's invoices not always being very clear or something.
ETA: I just remembered one buyer in particular I had years ago - I was clearing out my cheaper hats (when I was a hat seller) and had like 10 for $35 - real clear out. To display them all I used my two hat mannequins - these were not the foam jobs, but obviously expensive professional head mannequins (because hats were my business). I get the inevitable email "Are the mannequins included with the hats?"
I should have recalled that commonsense sometimes is in short supply. After that I put "XYZ [whatever it was] not included". Kind of why they say 'serving suggestion' on food boxes, because somewhere some dunderhead is certain that that bowl, spoon AND milk must be included in that box of Cheerios.

OP4 months agoYou know I've always had a problem when the cereal boxes showed fruit with the cereal but never included them in the box. You know like strawberries or blueberries. As a kid I always wondered how was that even legal? And now I'm stuck explaining to my kid that sorry, Kellogg is lying to you. There are no strawberries in that box of plain **bleep** corn flakes.

·4 months agoMany years ago, we had a friend who was also an eBay seller, mostly small items, and for whatever reason would use the back of his toilet to display items when taking pictures. One time, I sent him a message asking if the toilet was included with the item shown. The next time we saw him, he was practically jumping up and down because some IDIOT had asked him if the toilet was included with the item. When we started laughing, he realized it was a joke. But he did change backdrops for his pictures after that.

My 2 Cents for what it's worth. You are a new Seller, nothing is off the table for Buyers trying to scam you.
Use the Report Buyer link on that sold item (use the drop-down menu on the left), they are asking for more than what they purchased. The Reporting process will included a typing field where you can explain the situation.
Message the Buyer and include the screen shot of what they purchased and that based on your declared Handling time that one item will be shipped as ordered unless they message you back requesting a Cancellation. If they ask you to cancel you can do that and select the reason "Buyer requested" which avoids a strike on your account,
If you wind up cancelling you can then add that Buyer to your blocked list on this page: Buyer management | eBay

@iamalwaysright is his posting ID. He is experienced and sells on another ID. Not sure exactly all that he sells, apparently a lot of tshirts and sweatshirts and caps and the like, and from what he posts on here, he has way more than the average number of numpty buyers that he has to deal with. Way more.

No, this is due to an annual increase in buyer cluelessness experienced during this period, which has caused competence delays.

·4 months agoThat's really weird! But what's also a little strange is that I can't see your current or sold listings, nor can I see your feedback received as a seller??? Is it on a different ID?

OP4 months agoAnd before some of you might come and say or ask, the photo shown in the screenshot that I blacked out shows only one sweatshirt in there, and not multiple sweatshirts and colors like some other listings might do.

·4 months agoMany people have elevators that don't go anywhere near the top floor. I would simply ask them
'Why are you now saying 3 when at first you said 4?? Also- $33 is CLEARLY for 1 (if that's the case) so not sure WHY you think you get more than 1 sweatshirt??

·4 months agoOMG, I love this!
Anyway - I think the best thing to do here is to politely inform the buyer that's the price for ONE sweatshirt, refund them in full ("buyer requested" works fine since they implied they didn't want to pay that price for just one item) add them to your best buddy list.
