this weekend total $600- most are auctions at my loss. Average weekend total is $2400.

No explanation

The original poster has a 7 month sell through rate, which is way, way, way above average for women's clothing. Women's clothing categories tend to have sell through rates measured in years, not months.

In fact their sell through rate is faster than mine and people tend to call me an ebay cheerleader.

The original poster is in the top 1 percent.

I sold $41 today, I sold $400 yesterday. Variation is normal.

I do wonder are the customers buying those items that you are shipping out at a loss, do they ever return to your store to purchase regular price items? Ebay isn't brick and mortar.

First sale on Saturday:

Feb 10, 2024 at 5:59pm PST

We do quite a bit of sales and that was really weird. I was thinking I was getting punished for eBay CS claims or complaints I posted on these forums. I try not to be paranoid.

Depends on what one care look at. Credible news in consumer finance showed mostly a banner holiday season for a variety of big retailers, Walmarts reporting comes soon enough. Amazon was up 14%, that's huge via the holidays and a banner Black Friday/Cyber Monday pretty much across the board.

Doom and gloomers expecting recession, that's unlikely but it is anticipated whilst consumer spending currently is not on a big wane it will slow. Credit usage up considerably Q4 and interest rates not expected drop for four-six months albeit could be longer, its an election year. The believers in one parties push about "fear economics" can impact spending across large swaths of folks. Much depends on what folks sell too like clothes, Shein is wiping the floor up in "fast fashion" for example. Just recently I saw how the company operates, very smart, pretty amazing. They are gobbling up the 25-45 year old online fashion shoppers to the tune of in excess of 25 billion dollars. Give that some scale, video games sales in 2023 were 57 Billion.

Expect strong competition to continue from retail as they run banner sales of 30-70% off various merchandise so price matters. If you've got product getting decent views but not conversion consider lowering those prices.

I understood that those deep discounts were based on excess merchandise from the pandemic shutdown of retail sales.
At some point, that excess is going to be absorbed (or trashed) (or shipped to Africa to further erode the home garment industry).

Any predictions about when the backlog will end?

There are always buckets of unsold product and depending on products some get destroyed, reclaimed, surplus into other retailers, floating all over. Across the border in Ontario Canada lay wholesale/surplus operations that are chock full season after season.

Now as I understand it retailers are backing off quantities held in brick and mortar "backroom" and perhaps regional distribution points in favor of the web. More and more people are shopping online so the models for said retailers are also evolving in fact just the other day come across my news feed about mechanisms being trialed of optimization of online models. The National Retail Federation and other retail associations one can allot from in what's going on out there and free to read.

Even if were not for models and really business and manufacturer evolution the web has changed in that of "competition" for the traffic and hence the sales. Nothing new to brick and mortar retail. In fact nothing new to say proprietors of retail co-ops or even thrifts having to compete for the traffic and revenues. Why super Walmarts tend have detrimental effects on any surrounding business not necessarily those in direct product competition. Now this is online and will continue to escalate. Both Shein and Temu are good examples of evolving businesses which also compete for traffic and result in traditional retailers to evolve, especially Shein.

Now to *ME* this is why is makes COMPLETE SENSE for manufacturers and retailers to bind closer to third party resellers, get them authorized. Have them help rid counterfeiting, gift them opportunity as small business to thrive streamlining the delisted/surplus merchandise. Win win solutions in partnership whilst at the sametime curing the retail arbitrage issues through the actual third party marketplaces.

Cant legislate all problems out of existence and the more complex and broadband the problems the more it calls for mutually beneficial solutions versus slamming mallets playing whack a mole per se. To me it's plain as the schnoz on my face as its EXACTLY what we used do when PC software was the in thing. We provided solutions to the publishers, retailers and supply chain that was mutually beneficial, following all the rules and consumers win too.

Have to force the problems out of the marketplaces not by legislating but instead making the marketplaces ineffective towards predatory conducts such as counterfeits and retail arbitrage. This is done through working together not beating upon said stakeholders. That's my opinion.

eBay is hiding your listings. There have been two instances where our traffic data went haywire and the response from eBay was "it was a glitch"... basically, the data is **bleep** and your store is being throttled. I pay no attention to the cheerleading drones without any original thoughts or critical thinking capacity.

There might be a lot of 20+ year sellers here... but many are hobbyists (i.e. not making a living at it).

Plenty of sellers on here work for free, or below minimum wage. I really don't want their advice on how to increase sales. I don't want to work to just support eBay and my suppliers.

It has nothing to do with "ebay delivers".

Ebay provides you a place to sell. They don't promise you sales.

If nobody is buying what you are selling right now, how is that ebay's fault?

The store I work in full time, if our sales are slow, we don't call the landlord.

I'm glad at least someone has seen some ads, because I haven't seen any. However, I think there is more brewing than ad issues. My sales have steadily declined much more than usual this time of year. Saturdays usually yield 6-8 sales. It's 8:20pm and I have 2 sales. Super Bowl weekend has never caused this in the past.

You obviously are watching, surfing, or listening to venues eBay is advertising in. I've seen ads for eBay's vault service, guaranteed authentic programs, ebay auto parts, ebay certified refurbished electronics, sports cards, comic books, and etc.

Others on the board say they have seen ads for high end watches, handbags, and etc.

I see eBay ads on FaceBook- usually collectibles- about twice a month.

I haven't seen etsy ads since Christmas.

Nothing from PoshMark since they were recruiting sellers in 2022.

I've never seen anything about Mercari.

Amazon had a lot of ads when they were building a new distribution centre up-island from me, touting how great it was to work for AZ.

From my viewpoint, eBay is the only one currently advertising to BUYERS.

It would be interesting to know if eBay uses TikTok or WhatsApp to advertise. There are also videos on You Tube either pushing eBay directly (crazylamplady being one) or indirectly (buying AZ returns and selling on eBay) which both recruit sellers and encourage buyers which are FREE PUBLICITY for eBay.

Quora has many questions about selling and buying on eBay including how to solve problems.

Nothing new in the corporate world.

I think down the road the NFL will get a backlash by fans who pay year after year for season tickets, tailgating costs, using vacation time to even travel to watch their team and when their team reaches the S.B. it becomes a lottery for them to get tickets. Hum?

Interesting observation you made. Now go back to the OP's site and glance in on the number of sold items in the last 90 days. With numbers like that I would think complete shutdown with only 19 give away auctions ending. I believe they were speaking to BIN SALES. Yes, I could be wrong and am ready for the bashing I am sure will come!

I am not buying at bins- never, this is not my business model. This is high quality items regularly priced at store - randomly putting in auction to bring more buyers. Instead of paying eBay for advertising I use this technique

@knittedcloset I think they were referring to Buy It Now (i.e., "BIN") listings, not the Goodwill bins.

To me as pwogwamma its acronym for Binary 1001 0001 = 145(D) or 91 Hexadecimal. Then there is 1010 1010 =178(D) or AA Hexadecimal (meaning I need a drink LOL).

Binary is how the left side of my brain tells the right side of brain to "Mind itself."

My point was not to say I was having a successful sales day. My point was to show that ebay was not "down". When I have a zero sales day, I don't blame ebay or think that ebay is down, I blame myself for not selling more desirable items that people want to buy.
