Is eBay customer service avoiding us?
Summary: vintagemjb expressed frustration with eBay's customer service, having difficulty getting a promised callback after being redirected through chat. They also noted an unsatisfactory experience with Amazon's customer service. Others in the discussion shared similar complaints about eBay's AI and customer service, with suggestions like allowing unknown callers to bypass spam filters, using social media, or directly requesting an agent. Despite various strategies shared, dissatisfaction with automated systems and the effectiveness of support was a common theme.
I went through the whole eBay chat thing yesterday, and after what seemed like hours, I finally got to a place of chat referring me to an agent. I was in line to receive a call from eBay yesterday morning "in about 9 minutes." They didn't call. When I tried to continue my chat with AI an hour or so later, it made me start over. I had already spent too long getting to the place of waiting in line for a call back. I felt like I was wasting my time.
Then I received an email late last night from eBay telling me they tried to call and couldn't reach me. Not true. I had my phone with me all day and didn't receive a call back. I tried to call eBay with an old number I had, but they referred me to the chat again and hung up.
Are they avoiding us? Is there a way to bypass the chat? Does anyone have a way to contact eBay straight up?

·6 days agoKnowing, as I do, that customer service at Ebay can only rarely remedy any problem, I quickly reached an agent from the chat.
He did not understand the problem, opened a ticket and told me I would get a response within 48 hours.
No response. No surprise. I knew that if this problem had not been handled automatically, contacting support was a waste of time.
But - hope springs eternal.

·6 days agoAt the top and bottom of every page in Ebay are links to contact Customer Service.
There is not just one way to contact Ebay. You should save this information as it can come in handy from time to time. At the very bottom is a link in which you can request Ebay to call you.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.

https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT or ask an Agent to call you, in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

From this link you can request Ebay to call you in the USA. The option is available when Staff is available to respond, so NOT 24/7/365.

Gentleman was very nice spent over 20 min. with me and supposedly "reported" It to tech people from whom I should hear in 72 hrs or less. ·1 week agoThere are many reasons why a call back might not get through. In the past, some VOIP users have reported problems getting calls from eBay, and spam blockers -- both the users' and phone providers' -- can cause issues as well. Users with phones numbers registered outside of North America may have problems getting calls as well.
If you are unable to get a call back and you still need to contact someone at eBay, you might try reaching out via Instagram direct message, though it may take a while to get a return response these days.

OP1 week agoThanks. None of those apply, but I appreciate the recommendation for Instagram. I don't use it, but if it helps, I might try it.

·1 week agoYou are welcome. If your phone provider is blocking eBay's number, you would not necessarily know about that, though. That can happen if enough other users block the number as unwanted, even if you have not taken any action yourself, and it is not something you may be able to determine or undo except by providing eBay with a new number to call.

·1 week ago · EditedEbay CS is pretty useless as you have found out. It illustrates one of the many drawbacks of relying on AI.
Honestly, a good conspiracy theory would be that ebay is relying on all of us unpaid volunteers to provide good customer service!

OP1 week agoI think you're right! I'm getting a similar run-around on Amazon. The chat "person" told me they'd follow up with me about a warranty issue, and I even received an email asking me to submit something. I did exactly what they asked me to do, and nothing. It's been at least a month and 3-4 follow-up emails...crickets.
Funny, my CHATgpt responds correctly in seconds...hmmm.
