Is anyone getting a lot of scam sells lately?
Summary: sgeesquared shared a concerning experience with scam buyers on eBay, where a buyer attempted to extort a refund by threatening negative reviews. Despite offering clear terms of a 30-day return policy, sgeesquared faced manipulative tactics and reported the issue. Feedback extortion is against eBay's policy, and fabrics24 sympathized with the situation. sgeesquared mentioned the increasing frequency of such incidents. ten_o_nine and christworks discussed the effectiveness of reporting, suggesting that complaints should be directed to more relevant fraud divisions rather than local authorities. A separate thread debated the use of the term "sells" versus "sales."
Is anyone getting a lot of scam sells lately? I feel like it has become more often than not.... I had a buyer send me this message yesterday. Buyer sent me a message claiming the item doesn't work. I test everything before posting as a seller should. I also offer 30 day free returns and free shipping. The buyer then sent me this - Here are the options: 1) $30 refund and I will finagle the two items together; no bad review 2) send it back to you by you (seller) sending me a return shipping label: no bad review with a full refund 3) I keep it and seller earns a bad review.
They went on to claim the item was missing something that was not offered in the listing. I did reply - That item was not included in the listing or in photos. Item has been properly tested and working before posting and being shipped. This is for the head unit only. You may return the item. Thank you and have a great day.
I did report them. They have not filed a return. They may or may not. However I have been getting this a lot more lately. The return is always not working or not as described. I had someone leave me a negative review already because of this and I tried to report to eBay and it was not removed. I understand this is business but this has to stop at some point right?
Thanks for reading

Have I been saying it wrong all these years?

·1 month agoFeedback extortion is against eBay's policy; you did the right thing reporting them.
It does seem pretty rampant, though, and it really sucks when people take advantage of you as a seller. I'm sorry you're dealing with this :(

OP1 month agoI have been doing this since 2012. I feel like it has happened more lately.

OP2 weeks agoThey filed a return on the 15th and returned their broken item. I have filed a complaint and fraud with eBay and IC3.

·2 weeks agoFiling a complaint doesn't mean a thing, the cops are not going to show up at the scammer's door the next day. It just doesn't work that way. A basic 10-hour investigation costs $1000 to $2,000 in police man hours alone, and that's why local departments aren't going to spend their budget tracking down a minor online sale.

·2 weeks ago@sgeesquared Your claims are misplaced. Reports like this should go to the carrier's fraud division, not local police or even the IC3.
