·5 months agoSorry, but the first 50 items you are currently listing scream dated to me. Brilliant American cut crystal, furniture that reminds me of The Bombay Co, overpriced Waterford ... I'd carefully check every item you are listing for current price and availability.

eBay has always had the ups and downs of a roller coaster. Some are up, others down… then it flips… ad nauseam.

·11 months agoYes. It seems to me that I list items and after 3 days there are still no views. I have items of large interest and priced right. I have been a seller for many many years and have never seen this. What are others experiencing?

I’ve been selling since 1996 (multiple accounts). I just eclipsed $2,000,000 in sales (gross) with 80,000+ items sold.
It has always been a roller coaster, and summers are always the slowest months.

·11 months ago@lefrus9 Might or might not be a factor, given that you sell mostly antiques , but the Holiday Season (or maybe Pre-Season) has kicked off with Amazon Prime Sale and its various competitors (WalMart, Target etc running discount sales and promoting them heavily), and between the hype about the bargains to be found on those sites, and many people still preferring gifts to be new items AND many people very price conscious, I suspect that has an impact on ebay sales.
Monday is a postal holiday, which gives me an extra day to prep weekend sales for shipping (I have one day handling), so I'll probably run a sale this weekend, and might go as high as 50% off on some stuff, we'll see.
Have you tried running a discount sale? (I do realize it doesn't work for everyone, but might be worth a shot)

About the 3 minute mark, there's this graph, comparing the decline in site reach for etsy, Amazon and ebay during September:
With all 3 sites showing a similar decline curve, she attributes this mostly to economic issues and a sort of lull before the Holiday Shopping storm. While there may be other factors at play---I personally wonder what possible role the increasing use of AI as a search tool (rather than searching a a particular site) might play in this decline---I think she's probably right (see her comments in the right hand column) that the overall economy (and consumer confidence, or lack thereof) is playing a major role here.
Of course, regardless of these very general stats, there will always be sellers who are seeing increases while the site is seeing decreases and visa versa, so ultimately we are responsible for our own sales and if sales slow down, the main question is never : why? the main question is : What should I try to do to boost my business?

@devon@ebay So, yes, it is that time of year again. The time of year when I ask you about ebay's Holiday Marketing plan, and whether ebay is going to tell us about it in the near future.
I believe I've asked this in one form or another since Jamie became CEO, and every year it's been pretty much the same thing: We have nothing to announce. Because there is no real Holiday marketing plan, just another round of ads for the focus categories.
But I ask every year, because I remain hopeful that ebay will eventually realize that failing to run a real Holiday marketing campaign is a great way to lose sales. And I'm hoping this year ebay will realize the threat of Agentic AI and "AI as search", and will finally decide that, yeah, maybe we really, really NEED to do a Holiday Marketing campaign this year.
So, anyway, whether your news is good or bad, please let us know. Thanks!

·11 months agoSince about August 14th I have had 5 sales and this is the worst I have ever seen in 22 years ( been averaging about 6 to 8 sales a week and now zilch). There are a lot of variables that play into the lack of sales but I think the USPS rate increases have a lot to do with it. Maybe the USPS will price themselves out of business.
I did talk to two eBay reps and both of them said you need to promote your listings with a 5% to 6% promo. I tried it for about 4 weeks and nothing has changed so I stopped promoting my listings.
I am going to make a decision at the end of this month as whether I will continue selling on this dying platform.
When I first started here I was doing over $100,000.00 and each year it keeps going downhill. It is not worth the headache any longer with all of eBay's changes that want sellers to put more money into their pocket, and the seller get's less of everything.
eBay does need a very good house cleaning and get someone who can actually run this platform that helps sellers.

·11 months agoI agree with toysaver, & I hope it gets better as we approach the Holiday's, But I am Hopefully Pessimistic!, There are threats of thousands of Federal workers which does not Help the situation at all, People are Very Concerned about their finances & job security, We can only wait & see if it indeed will be a Merry Christmas or a Bah Humbug.

·11 months agoI sell on two other sites and on one site over the weekend, I sold a set of buttons and a yard of Halloween fabric. On the big site, I sold 3 panels. This is down significantly.
Ebay is down also. I am having sales, but mostly one yard here or there.
The University of Michigan consumer spending report showed that consumers were still spending but it was mostly on high end earners in the US. They were also spending on must haves and not wants.
Lower earners were pulling back.
This is the same thing that happened during the 1930's when tariffs went into place.

·11 months agoAre you using promoted listings? If not so many others are and their listings drown yours out. It's not so much that people arent interested in your items, as if is people just never see your items. Look at your views for each item
If you arent try it out a fixed promotion at a low, 2-3 percent for a while. Track your data in the hub/traffic and see if there us an improvement. I see you have frequent new listings which is good. Nows the time to list even more items.
Worst thing to do is nothing and expecting different results.

·11 months agoBy the time the full effect of tariffs makes the rounds, consumers will be absorbing a 60% increase in overall costs. What this means, at least for my household, all discretionary spending has come to an end, we are buying absolute necessities only.

·11 months agoI would say do some research on your items available and see what they are listing and sold for. You will probably need to reduce your prices. Comes down to demand and interest which right now nobody is interested so you need to make a change. Also listing stuff daily helps. If you just let your inventory sit with no activity then that would slow you down as well.

·11 months agoYes, and glad to hear I'm not alone in this sinking ship. I was doing fairy well until the last two weeks and we hit another wall. I'm assuming it's from more of the unneeded changes and updates that Ebay continually applies and installs. Please explain to me what I'm missing? Ebay's constant changes and installations just cause more buyers to go elsewhere due to the complexities of doing a simple transaction. They need to look at the basics of buying and selling and of course management change. That won't happen because they are more worried about trying to get more fees and money from the sellers. I'm a simple Antique and Collectible seller who has given up on all these unnecessary changes. Ebay's has to be losing fees, that's why I continued to see boost and promoted messages that I'm supposed to do. Not happening on my part. Why not leave things alone and make it easier and simpler to buy stuff. I'm stunned, as this is the worst stretch I have ever seen. I did very well last month and only one sale so far this month. I'm just going to transition back to brick and mortar selling as this forum is getting ridiculous.
