Is anyone else seeing a spike in "Unable to Pair" returns for replacement AirPods Pro 2nd Gen?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some insight from fellow electronics sellers who specialize in AirPods. I sell genuine replacement AirPods Pro 2nd Gen (single buds). Lately, I’ve experienced a significant spike in returns—8 in just the last month—with buyers reporting they cannot sync the replacement bud to their existing set.
Here is the strange part: All units were fully tested and functional before shipping. However, even I am now having difficulty re-pairing these returned units to my own test cases to relist them or even list new ones. I read somewhere that there was a new firmware release in Dec that may be causing the problem
I’ve verified the hardware is genuine and functional, so I suspect this is a firmware mismatch or perhaps a recent iOS hurdle. I am also being very careful to match Lightning vs. USB-C models, yet the "Mismatch" or "Unable to Pair" errors persist.
- Is anyone else seeing a surge in this specific issue recently?
- Have you found a "magic" troubleshooting sequence or a specific message to send buyers that helps them sync the firmware successfully?
- Could this be related to a recent Apple firmware update (like 7B19 or newer)?
I want to maintain my seller metrics and provide good service, but these "defective" returns are becoming a major hurdle for functional inventory. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

·8 months agoHit up Reddit ...I cant imagine anyone here will have tech and firmware knowledge on these...heck, most here probably don't know the difference between firmware and underwear, thinking firmware most likely is a bra!

·8 months agoTry just googling this issue? This is the selling board, I doubt anyone here is much of an airpod tech specialist. You know more than me!!!

OP8 months agoThanks, I was just hoping I will get other OEM sellers like me chime in, but it doesn't appear so. I will pull this particular model until I find a resolution.

·8 months agoHow does one specialize in air pods in the first place? Where in the world would you ever get real ones in quantity?

OP8 months agoTo answer your question: 'specializing' means I have developed a reliable supply chain for OEM parts. There are several legitimate ways to source genuine units in quantity, such as buying open-box returns, liquidations, or 'married' sets where one component is missing.
I do my due diligence and test every unit for authenticity and 'Find My' status before it ever hits my store. My feedback record is a reflection of that consistency; if these were after market copies, my metrics would have plummeted years ago.
This isn't an issue with 'fake' parts being 'knocked out' by Apple. It is a specific technical firmware hurdle where two genuine Apple components fail to handshake due to mismatched versioning—a problem that has intensified with the recent 8B30/7B19 updates. I'm looking for viable technical insight into this sync process, not a debate on sourcing.

·8 months agoWhat is "genuine replacement"? That sounds like just an aftermarket copy. Apple can knock those out just like HP knocks out aftermarket ink cartridges. When updates go out is doesn't always mean improvements, they often knock out the aftermarket parts on the grounds of security

OP8 months agoTo clarify, 'genuine replacement' means these are original, authentic Apple-manufactured components—not after market copies. I harvest individual buds from genuine Apple sets to provide replacements for people who have lost one side.
This isn't a case of Apple 'knocking out' third-party hardware like an ink cartridge. These are OEM Apple parts. My feedback history confirms the authenticity of my inventory. The issue I’m reporting is a technical sync error between two genuine parts that have different firmware versions, which is a known challenge in the resale industry, particularly with the recent Pro 2nd Gen updates.

OP8 months agoI appreciate the input, and I’m honestly leaning toward doing exactly that. It’s a tough pill to swallow because this has been my highest-selling model in both volume and profit for a long time. Everything was running smoothly until about two weeks ago when this issue suddenly appeared out of nowhere. At this point, protecting my seller metrics is the priority, so I'll likely be pulling the listing until I can figure out what Apple changed.
