Interpreting Shipping Aspects of the Updated User Agreement
So, I have read the updated user agreement, specifically the updated shipping portion probably 10 times now and honestly still have no idea what I am reading. To further complicate things is all the panic that seems to be based off speculation or individual interpretation of the updated agreement. How do we even know what listings will be affected when wording reads "ebay may add" or "listings that are eligible"....The wording is so vague which I presume is done purposely by eBay.
Will anything actually be clearly explained before this goes into effect or will sellers just be left to figure it out on their own once actually implemented. Some of these changes seem they could be really detrimental to sellers if the interpretations I'm reading actually come to fruition

·4 months agoUpdate: @casachic has posted a video with more details she was able to glean from speaking to her contacts at eBay.
Basically it sounds like currently it's a test with select sellers in NY, NJ, CT, and PA for clothing, shoes, and jewelry items under $200.
Thanks for this Julie!

·4 months agoFrom @valueaddedresource's coverage:
The important takeaway is that sellers should not panic just yet - any Managed Shipping program for the US will likely be part of expanding C2C efforts and if so, it would only apply to sellers who meet whatever criteria eBay may set for that program, not to all sellers on the platform.
As for shipping methods: I don't use eBay labels, either, and we don't have express shipping up where I live - I have to take the train into town to do that lol.
If they want to try managed shipping like Poshmark, I think it'll result in a quagmire. Poshmark started with this method but has had a controlled evolution. Applying it retroactively to ebay would be a circus - it may instead be an option.

·4 months agoIt sounds more like how shipping is handled on other selling platforms. The buyer pays the shipping to the platform, usually a flat rate up to a certain weight, and the platform emails the shipping label to the seller. Specifically, since eBay is in the process of taking over Depop, how the Depop shipping process works.

I was just about to comment about Depop when I saw yours.
From what I've seen of a family member who sold on Depop, there were no weights or package dimensions added to the listing. It's all based on estimations? And then if additional postage is owed, Depop handles it directly?

·4 months ago"list with eBay shipping as the delivery method"
By 'ebay shipping' are they talking about the labels bought/printed on ebay, be it domestic or international, shipping service or the post office?
As far as we know ebay doesn't have an 'ebay branded' domestic shipping service.
As far as we know ebay has two branded international shipping/forwarding services, the one know by four letters and sellers sign up for and is shown on listings, and the one know by three letters that we can't pick when making listing, and is not shown on the listings to the buyer, but ebay adds to our international sales shipping label page and default to.
"your buyer may be able to choose whether to have a standard or express delivery service"
We only use the post office.
By standard are they talking about ground adv for domestic and first class international for everywhere else.
By express are they talking about priority or the ebay forwarding deal.

Here is a good breakdown of the changes. So far nothing seems to have changed with shipping but they may be laying the ground for future changes.

·4 months agoI don't use eBay shipping labels so I am assuming it will not affect me in the future.
I think it has to do with sellers using eBay shipping labels.
I'll stick to the USPS for shipping without their labels.

·4 months agoI hope you are right. I haven't bought an eBay shipping label for a very long time. I was under the impression that ONLY eBay shipping labels could be used pretty soon. And June is too soon. I am not prepared. I don't know if I should change all my flat shipping fees to calculated or raise prices for the free shipping route. I am watching to read what other sellers are doing.

Ebay has fewer restraints on what they can do in the future.

OP4 months ago"Nothing about shipping has changed."
Doesn't seem like you have read the updated user agreement. There's plenty of wording in there that is not the same as how things currently work
"The sky is not falling"
I didn't say it was...I was only asking if there would be clarification

·4 months agoI read it, it governs what they can do, not what they are doing.
Paranoia is prevalent among a significant segment of the seller community,
My guess is they copied a portion of the UK agreement.
No policy change is dictated by this agreement/
