It really depends on what you are selling. For me, EIS is not practical for what I sell. I process my orders directly and post them directly to my customers, without an interim step. But I fully concur with what others have said: selling Internationally is important. Most of my customers are overseas. There have been only two cases where customers did not receive their purchases; one in the US and one overseas. Cheerfully refunded their purchase after a waiting period.

1 - There are more buyers located outside of the US than there are within the US
2 - Depending on how you are shipping Internationally the fees could be slightly higher OR not any higher. If you are shipping using eBay International Shipping the selling fees are exactly the same as domestic. If you are shipping International yourself directly (via USPS or other carriers) then you will pay an additional fee of 1.65%
I ship to International buyer directly, I have nearly 50 years experience with international shipping and I have great contacts for low priced shipping service. eBay's International service is expensive by comparison but those lower rates are not accessible to everyone and there is more risk when shipping directly so for those who are new to the game it's probably best to use eBay's EIS service.

But if you are selling high end items I don't recommend International. I get charged more on International sales. If you have inexpensive stuff you should sell them to get the experience of selling International.
And I would google the address of an expensive item you sold to see if it got sold where it will go to a place in the USA or freight forward to another country.
