INR claim
Hi everyone,
Well, first, the tracking shows the item delivered but my buyer said USPS notified her that they misdelivered here package, so she opened an INR claim. I told her to open a claim at the post office, and they instructed her to open a claim at eBay (me, essentially). It doesn't make any sense, I did my job, they didn't. What's my next step?
TIA

·3 weeks agoLOL. Hogwash! Either Joe Schmoe at the post office totally doesn't want to do his job or your buyer's pants are on fire. I've experienced both scenarios many times.
The local branch should be able to make a recovery attempt for the package they misdelivered. Who knows if they will actually follow thru with it, or if your buyer would even pester USPS for it as they might think they'll have a better chance pestering you for a full refund. Did they happen to tell the buyer exactly where they misdelivered the package to? They have GPS locations of the packages when it gets scanned as delivered.

·3 weeks ago@cambriachick Your next step is to respond to the INR by uploading the tracking number, even if it is already there. Upload it again. Then, in the text box simply state the tracking shows the item was delivered. No need to go any further than that.
Once you submit the updated INR, it will eventually close out.
Whatever you do, do not ask eBay to step in and do not fail to respond to the INR with the tracking number.
You can apologize to the buyer that USPS misdelivered it, but that you sent it to the address she provided. USPS is passing the buck on to you. There is always the chance the buyer is lying: The package may not have been misdelivered. You can call the buyer's post office to find out. Or, it was misdelivered but she is taking the path of least resistance.
If you were to refund the buyer you won't get any insurance because the tracking shows it was delivered. Standard protocol is for the local USPS to retrive the misdelivered package, if possible. If they cannot, the buyer may file a claim for misdelivery. It is not on you to do that.
Explain this to your buyer and let it go. Don't let them keep pestering you about it.
