Influential YouTube resellers, who do you recommend for your business?

I have several YouTubers to view that I enjoy for fun or to pass the time. And I watch one in particular that is very knowledgeable about the items I like to sell. He is an appraiser, collector, reseller on ebay and he is extremely well versed in mid century items.
He knows makers marks, pinpoints dates and how items were manufactured. He's also an author of a book dealing with a collectable type of ceramic ware.
I think YouTuber resellers should be commended for the constant release of videos and the knowledge that they pass to their viewers for free. It looks like a difficult and time consuming job and I know I couldn't do it!
I know they get rewarded with a large fan base to their ebay stores as well as they should. I just wanted to give a shout out to these dedicated resellers for all the good information you give to viewers.

·1 week agoI'm in awe of George the Antique Nomad's knowledge-base re: MCM basic 'bread & butter glass & pottery. His memory's (and ENERGY are extraordinary).
I don't have to 'flip' to put food on the table, and just pick for pleasure.
NEG- The one thing about George that really bores me is how much he focuses on post-war mass-produced ceramics and glassware. That said-most of today's Malls are filled with this kind of ho-hum stuff, so He prob doesn't have much of a choice but to talk about endless pieces of Fenton on his show.

·2 years agoI hardly watch reseller content anymore but one channel I always recommend - Crazy Picker Life. They haven't made videos for years and they certainly aren't for everyone but I found a lot of inspiration from the vids. Very long winded and great to have on in the background.
In particular - they made one video that I have listened to a few times over the years, Predator or Prey, What Type of Picker are You? Highly recommend giving it a listen.

·2 years agoIt is amazing how Youtube seems to have these separate sets of reseller channels that it suggests to different people. 21K subs and I had never heard of him.

·2 years agoOne of the reasons I started a channel is that I used to answer a lot of questions on this board instead, but just got tired of being attacked for offering solid advice to people's problems. They never wanted to hear the truth even when they are the ones who asked for help.
The overwhelming majority of Youtube ebay resellers would make more money if they put all that youtube time into ebay. I have 5600 subscribers and do about 3 videos a and live every week to make about $375 a MONTH from Youtube.
That does not replace the immediate average $2000 a month drop in sales I had when I started the channel and still have today. I used to sell 12K per month and now it is 10K. Once I count expenses and the youtube money I am at the end of the month banking about $800 a month less than if I just put that same time into ebay instead. I would probably have to triple my subscribers to hit the break even point.

Interesting, I've seen your channel before. How actually do YouTubers get paid? Thru the ads, subscribers, the thumbs up? Are you required to put out a certain amount of videos each week? Guess I'm curious... thank you for posting!

·2 years agoFor me about 75 percent of it is Ad revenue, the rest is channel memberships and superchats people do in my live videos. Although I generally spend all the superchat money on my kid as I usually say something like "any superchats tonight are going towards getting Julie highlights in her hair" or something like that.
You are not required to have any sort of schedule although youtube rewards releasing regular content. And if you keep at it long enough and gain enough of a following then suddenly you can cross over this hump where youtube time actually pays more than ebay time. That threshold if going to vary wildly from one person to another depending on their audience, release schedule, video length and number of superfan types that they attract. Some people have 20,000 followers and the youtube technically still is not worth their time, while I know a few around my level of subs that make much more than I do on youtube.

Thank you for answering my questions. I really didn't know what all was involved but I do see alot of different youtubers doing that live whatnot stuff, which I don't care for. Now I have most of the YT sellers saved on ebay and have actually bought from a few of them.
I aways wonder if garage sellers request you not film at their home or them?

·2 years agoI am not a whatnot fan myself and I have noticed that quite a few youtubers get into it heavily and then back out later. What happens is that all their fans show up for their first few shows and they make a ton of money, but their results keep going down over time as the fans of their videos stop showing up for the whatnot auctions as time goes by. Some like Hairy Tornado have such a huge fanbase that they don't have that problem, but most of the smaller sellers definitely see diminishing returns on whatnot. Not to mention whatnot is overall the exact opposite of what most youtubers are saying to do most of the time which is to look for higher profit items and not $3 sales.
I have never been asked to turn off my camera at the garage sale, but I think most people are too busy either staring at my prosthetic leg or trying no to stare to even think much about the camera.

Yeah, I've actually met her ( niche lady) she's a Vegas girl.
I'm still going number 1 with George the Antique Nomad. It doesn't get any better than him, guy is killer with mid century items.
I do watch also Bearded thrift machine. If you pick at any GW or Fleas, he puts up comps and he's great with reselling vtg electronics. He's helped me alot with these items that I get in my thrift store.

Ahhh, OK try for fun to view Bargain Barons, this is a Victorian era reseller that hails from Canada. Her and her husband have the most magnificent mansion ever and her collection is spectacular. You can search her videos on her home. They go to garage sales and she often picks sterling and older furniture to restore.
Wait till you see her place and husband's man cave!

·2 years agoI do not watch any Youtubers to learn about business practices. I do watch a lot of Youtubers to learn procedures. Procedures can be about anything, eBay, Computer, How to Blue Tooth Phone to Vehicle, etcetera. There are many excellent, intelligent, well informed Youtubers.

I am subscribed to a lot of You Tubers (doesn't mean I actually watch them regularly), but won't even try to say which ones I prefer. And it seems there are more and more resellers with their own shows, which I would guess makes it harder and harder to build a real, engaged following.
As a reseller myself, I'm primarily interested in learning more about the stuff I sell (so someone like George, who you already mentioned, is an obvious choice.) Next would be "how to" videos (how to clean antique bottles, how to ship old 78s, etc). Last would be the videos dealing with ebay policies , site issues, etc.
I really don't care that some of them are monetizing (or trying to monetize) their channels. I learned many years ago that one can learn useful information from many sources...it's my job to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Unfortunately, the pressure to monetize and to build a viewership means we have way too many YouTube titles and thumbnails that are nothing but clickbait. Given the unwieldy size of the reseller YT community, I think it would be great to see someone put out a weekly "Reseller's Digest", kind of like Readers Digest, with summaries of the ACTUAL content of many of the videos released that week. Of course, I don't think anyone will do that (and I'm certainly not interested in doing it), but it would be helpful....
As it is, I occasionally sample from the YT menu, but more often I actually search YT for specific types of items I'm trying to learn about, or how to do it videos.

Thank you for that, it's exactly what I was hoping to read as it's interesting. Unfortunately this thread didn't go as I hoped it would. I'm so tired of listening to news and this country's problems that my YouTube videos are a relief and a break from all of it.

·3 years agoWell, my guess is, many of the regulars here don't watch too many You Tubers. But that's just a guess.
Me, I'm happy to learn from any source....I have a large but unwieldy reference library with books on antiques, collectibles etc, I belong to some FB groups, watch YT videos, comes to these Boards, etc.
The thing I like most about reselling old stuff is I'm always learning new things about old things. Hey, maybe I should start my own YT channel: "Old Seller Talks New Things About Old Things." LOL

·2 years agoI watch on a regular basis: CrazyLampLady (it started with CLL), Flying Pigs Thrift. Commonwealth Picker/Flipper. ADHDave Picks/Flips. The Homeschooling Picker and now Part Time Pickers (they recently became a couple).
There's a few others I've watched but I don't care for them.
I'm not subscribed to any of these I just watch to fill my time with something.

I also view homeschooling picker, I like her and Matt, they pick more recent stuff though. CLL, these are all considered fun. One of the more surprising YT guys is Jeffrey on RealNiftyVintage. He's only in his 30s but very knowledgeable about 50s-60s items and he adds some humor to the mix.
I don't watch YT all the time, I'm very busy most of my days but when I have down time I do from my phone.

Lol, well that wasn't my intention, there's a horrible trashy other forum for that.
There is so many good YouTubers out there that compare prices, describe marks and tell history on items that I'm interested in.
Example: Lavender Clothesline is perfect for the clothing resellers. She is one of the most organized resellers and she shows periodically how she does keep her inventory organized for ebay.

·2 years agoPerhaps they know how to make money better than yourself by both selling and also by hosting a YouTube channel. If I were younger, better looking, had a more convivial personality, and had the disposition to learn yet another computer skill, video editing, I too might have a Youtube channel focused a bit more on retail business practices having nearly 50 years experience in the trade.

·3 years agoI found YouTube Vloggers enjoyable to watch in the beginning but they all tend to get a bit repetitive. I mean how many times can you watch the Auction Professor talk about his buttons? I did start watching some of the women because they tend to notice items that I, as a curmudgeon of an old man, don't notice.

And a judge ruled JUST LAST WEEK to let the Steiner's lawsuit against eBay continue?
That's "old news"?
Even eBay's own insurance company went to court refusing to pay for the defense and monetary actions of "criminal" eBay executives. Which means that eBay is footing the bill for all legal costs, along with whatever MASSIVE settlement the Steiners will receive.
THAT should be "fun".

But almost every one of them offered me a "Gold Plated Super Seller" subscription with their "Secret Tips On How To Be An Ebay Millionaire" for a chunk of money.

I'm what I call an "opportunistic reseller"...that is, I buy stuff when I am out and about, yard sales, thrift stores, flea markets, whatever, and I don't confine myself to one category....so I do learn a lot about stuff to buy. I am also happy for practical tips, like how to take better photos, etc. But the "how to increase sales" stuff is usually of less interest to me...so much depends on what you sell, what your goals are, etc, and what works for Seller A might not work for Seller B. As I said above, it's all about being able to sort the wheat from the chaff, and if you've been at this long enough, that's not too hard to do LOL

·3 years agoYouTubers, good or bad ones are not doing it "for free" they are doing it to make money from the ads YouTube shows on their pages.
There is nothing wrong with that but don't be thinking that they do it just to be nice and helpful.
The people who post on these eBay boards get paid nothing especially the ones that post here NOT using their actual selling id's, they don't even get the potential of makes a few extra sales.

I know they make money thru YT, and that's quite alright with me. I meant that when I view their channel it's free personally to me unless I opt to sign on a membership upgrade.

·3 years agoI subscribe to SM Post Cards, Daily Refinement, Auction Professor, Commonwealth Picker/Flipper and Million Dollar Peddlers.
I like different points of view as for example, I don't sell anything that Daily Refinement talks about but I like to know the strategy he employs and teaches others.
Based on subscribing to them, I get recommendations from others and try to mix in knowledge from them as well just so I can learn about things I don't sell, but might run into in auctions or auction stores.
