Tried to talk with eBay this is too much.
Got a 'Oh please, trust us' reply from someone answering in Philipines.
Yeah, right.
My wife does accounting.

·5 months agoMoney in and money out is all that matters. Ebay charges the exact fees stated in all its public documentation, if someone is too stupid to read that then they cannot be helped.
Also, feel free to go sell books on Amazon, where the fees are much, much higher.

·5 months agoAt least eBay doesn't have the strict approval hoops or high monthly professional fees you'd see on Amazon. For 15%, you're getting a global platform that lets you sell almost anything.

I tried Amazon.
Best way to sum that up was a failed experiment:
On Amzn, you can't customise listings at all.
Amzn categorises by price only.
Amzn doesn't care about you making money.
It makes money off everything.
If items don't sell, Amzn charges storage, then
disposal fees.
In comparison, eBay is better than Amzn.

·5 months ago@stem_tutorHave you looked into what it would cost to 'lease a space' for a store? With utilities, help etc. you are LUCKY if it is under $2000 a month. EVERY month.

·5 months agoIf fees too much, why list? Like @soh.maryl , when I started, I never listed anything without knowing what I would pay ebay........(and took into consideration the monthly store fee)........ I've never understood those who are totally surprised by what ebay "took"..........

eBay had a very slight increase on fees a year ago. For the most part, I think eBay's fees have been fairly stable over the years, especially when you consider the rise in costs of other costs to run a reselling business. Shipping is the main one. I wish the carriers would raise fees by a a half of a percentage a year, verses the 5%-10% increases we see multiple times a year.
eBay's fee structure is quite reasonable. It cost far less than if you were to try to set up on your own website to sell on, which is a very big uphill battle once you consider all the work that comes along with it. Work that eBay does on our behalf, that the fees cover.

I belonged to ebay ~ 30 years ago.
Things are much different now, and not for the better.
Perhaps I hoped for too much, being optimistic.

·5 months agoCSR in the Philippines lol You might as well be talking to yourself on 2 cell phones.
I just got off the phone with one. Fedex did a Theft Lie and changed my box dimensions from 18x18x18 to 31x23x19.
They overcharged my account 52$ for shipping my 18" Box 4 hours away to Los Angeles.
They keep stealing our money left and right any way they can.
I spoke to a phillipines rep and he assured me i would see the overcharge back in 3 days. Crickets.

·5 months agoHave not sold for a great many years, so perhaps I'm not qualified to comment on this; however, when I did sell, I was able to figure out approximately what my fees would be before I finalized my listing. Guess that no longer happens?
