Important Notice for Sellers Regarding Promoted Listings & Returns
I want to make other sellers aware of an issue I recently experienced with Promoted Listings.
When you sell an item using promoted/advertised listings and the buyer later returns the item, if you deduct a restocking fee or issue a partial refund, eBay does NOT automatically refund the promoted advertising fee.
Even though the transaction is not fully completed and you do not receive the full sale amount, the promoted listing fee is still kept by eBay unless you take action.
To recover the promoted ad fee, you must:
Contact eBay support directly
Request the refund manually
Often explain and escalate the issue to get the fee refunded
This is not automatic, and if you don’t notice it, the fee is quietly deducted.
I’m sharing this so other sellers can:
Double-check their promoted listing charges after returns
Be aware that you may need to call and dispute the fee to get your money back
Hopefully this helps other sellers avoid losing advertising fees unnecessarily.
