Impact of Lowering Price on Watchers
@sin-n-dex
I think there was a thread or two about this lately. Just want to add: I had put an item on my watch list for @sin-n-dex ---she was testing something---and received and declined the offer.
She has now reduced the price by 25% as part of a "Sale Event" (formerly Markdown Manager). I just received an email from ebay alerting me to the reduction. This does not appear to be a Seller Initiated Offer nor a Newsletter, just ebay , on its own initiative I gather, sending me this notice presumably because it is still on my Watch List.
So, at least in some cases, this seems to confirm, as many have suspected, that if you run a Sales Event ebay will send price reduction notices to Watchers (even if the watcher had previously received a Seller Initiated Offer).
This info might be of interest to some. If not, feel free to ignore LOL

·1 year agoI sometimes put items on my watchlist that I think are overpriced to see if I'll get an offer. Other times I get alerts that an item on my watchlist has been relisted when it doesn't sell the first time.
Sometimes I get an offer I like. Other times an item is relisted for a price I find acceptable.

just curious, what are your email settings? I recently went in and unchecked promotional marketing emails from ebay, which means I no longer receive certain emails or newsletters. I do still receive seller initiated offers, so I wonder someone will receive a notification like this, as long as they're still a watcher...

·1 year agoThat's good info. I just did a sale event an hour or so ago (on some stamps, cheaper items), so it's good to know all the people watching will get a notification.
I'm just in the process of sending a bunch of offers now, there's 900+ items on the list. I'm skipping over anything already on sale or anything where margins are too tight for offers. (Also always start with the most expensive items first, seeing as how I'll not get through 900 items ever... I do a couple hundred and then I'm in price ranges where I don't want to send offers on those items).

OP1 year agoIf you are curious, this is the item: Antique Postcard - Pre-1925 - Best Wishes - Rose & Butterfly - Not Posted - J24
It would be nice to know if there are any particular parameters embay employs, or does it send to every watcher (except those who have set preferences to no notices). But only ebay knows the answer to that ...

·1 year agoI did the discount on that about an hour or two ago... for stamps and postcards.
Is it still on your watch list? Or did they send you the notification because it was previously on your watch list? (Just wondering about that).

OP1 year ago@sin-n-dex Still on my Watch list. I really need to clean up that list...I rarely look at it. And I see the Watch List itself also shows the discounted price with a strike through...

·1 year agoI am assuming doing the sale are items that are not promoted.
I mean, if I can get someone to buy someone with free shipping...why do a sale? Correct?
I just do the promoted and hope buyers see the 'free shipping'.
I would say half my buyers are 'repeaters' every week.

·1 year agoBecause I originate in Canada, I can't really offer free shipping most of the time... as it is I'm often charging less for shipping than my costs are to be competitive with other US sellers. I don't have too many people who buy only one stamp lot at a time, most of the regulars buy 5-10 items and take advantage of the combined shipping promo for like items (like 5.80 for 2 or more coins/tokens, for instance), and that's how I get lots of my sales on smaller items.

·1 year agoI agree it works for paper money and coins...but I did not see that in stamps you have sold in the last few days.
It's really hard to get a buyer to buy multiple stamp lots on the same day.
I opt out of eBay shipping so International buyers cannot send me for a combined shipping total of multiple items.
I had to refund 2 buyers lately to refund combined shipping total.
