I'm the seller and I chose the option to pay for shipping
I sold an item and I had decided to pay the shipping for the item so the shipping charge was deducted from the sale but I looked in the buyer also had to pay the same exact amount of shipping so why is that? Why is eBay getting double payment on the shipping if I chose to pay it why is the buyer being charged for it and me also I personally think that's messed up

·2 years agoI think the distinction here is, that they didn't realize they had a shipping charge set on the listing they sold.
It sold. The buyer paid for the item + shipping as charged to them.
The seller thought they were including shipping with the selling price, but didn't realize the listing was set to charge shipping. So they think something is double dipping, where in fact nothing is. If anything the seller is ahead fund wise where they thought they would be.
Personally, depending on the item, its weight, etc, I may have shipping as an extra cost to the buyer or I may set it as free shipping.
But as others have pointed out, you need to set your shipping correctly. But being new, be careful not to under estimate your shipping.
Make sure you have the correct box dimensions, weight, and know what it will cost to ship to the farthest places BEFORE you do your listing and set your prices.
If for some reason the seller is feeling really guilty about it, they could refund the shipping to the buyer, but I wouldn't.
Some of your sales you will get ahead and others you will make a mistake and fall behind. I would take the win and move on.

If I give you $12 to get me a book of stamps, you go to the post office and pay that $12 and get the stamps for me.
Does the post office get $24? My $12 and your $12? No. Are YOU out any money? No.
If you charge your buyer $6 for shipping and they pay you for that shipping, you are using their $6, not yours. No double dipping, do extra payment, Ebay isn't "keeping" anything

·2 years agoLooking at the item you sold below as a buyer what I see is a $6.09 shipping cost that I would pay at the time I purchased the item, had I been the one who actually purchased it. That cost is determined by the class of postage you select when you create the listing as well as the dimensions & weight of the package all of which you should have entered when you created the listing. As the buyer what I see for a shipping cost is based on that information along with my particular ship to location.
It is money I would have sent you at the time of the purchase. Whether you choose to use eBay to purchase the label or go elsewhere to purchase it you have $6.09 to pay for the label. There is no double payment but two payments to two separate entities. The buyer is paying you for the shipping you then pay USPS, UPS or some other carrier for the actual label.
The same situation is applicable to your current active listings there are shipping costs for them. As a side note you have media mail as a shipping option on the Apple watch. That item cannot be shipped media mail

If you planned to be responsible yourself for the shipping cost, then you should have listed with free shipping.
You didn't, so the buyer's payment to you included shipping fee and eBay used those funds to pay for the shipping.
Nothing is "messed up" except for your understanding of how payment for shipping works.
Incidentally, when a buyer actually does list with free shipping, he includes the shipping cost in the item price.

·2 years agoYou did NOT choose free shipping when you made the listing. You messed up when you made the listing, not eBay. If you do not understand how to create a listing the way you want it to appear, you either need to figure it out or ask. eBay does not read your thoughts, nor do we or your buyers.
However, you are free to REFUND your buyers the shipping they paid, if you want to.

Check both your sold listing and one of your current active ones which are still showing calculated shipping. In the listing make sure the "Offer Free Shipping" box is checked and it holds when you list the item.
Once posted it should change to free shipping.

OP2 years agoThe shipping fee was taken out of the payment. That's what I'm saying. Plus the buyer paid the same amount. That's what I don't understand. I don't do eBay I have one time. Two times excuse me. I'm just asking a freaking question. You people are rude.

·2 years agoIf your listing charged the buyer shipping, that money goes to you along with the item price (minus fees) and then you must purchase the shipping label. So you pay, but have money from the buyer to cover the cost.

·2 years agoWhen the buyer paid you, he paid you for the item, the state sales tax, if any, and the shipping, which would have been $5.93 if I had been your buyer. You did not list with free shipping; therefore, the shipping cost was included in what the buyer paid to you and you used that money to pay for shipping.
Sorry that you believe we are being rude. There is no other way to explain this to you. You did not list with free shipping. After you made the listing, if you had read it carefully, you would have seen that the buyer would be charged for shipping and it was not free. He paid you and you paid the shipper.

There's nothing messed up about it. You have a charge for shipping in your listing. The buyer pays you and you ship. Easy. My suggestion is to do a little more research & learn more about selling on eBay. You're a new seller and new sellers are targets for scammers. I would also suggest that you start accepting returns too. No returns on eBay does NOT mean no refunds for the buyer. You stand to not only lose the money, but the item as well because you don't accept returns.

You did not offer free shipping on either item you sold, they both had shipping fees which the buyers paid. So you did not decide 'to pay the shipping for the item'.

·2 years agoIf you can post your summary from your order page, we can help better. When you say you "had decided ot pay the shipping" did you list it with Free Shipping, or give them a refund of the shipping charge?

·2 years agoEbay's not the one who is 'messed up'.Its not double payment, the buyer pays you the shipping fee and you use that to buy the shipping label.Final value fees, including the shipping and sales tax are deducted from your sale.

OP2 years agoWhy would buyer have to pay shipping if I chose to pay shipping? You just said buyer pays me for shipping. I am the one who chose to pay for the shipping.

·2 years agoAgain, if you wanted to pay for the shipping, your item should have been listed with free shipping.
It wasn't listed that way, so the buyer paid you for the shipping, and you, in turn, used those funds to pay for shipping. There was no double payment.
When you want to pay for the shipping yourself as the seller, you list the item with free shipping. There is no other way to handle it.
