I'm sick of eBay waiting until the last legal day to send 1099's.
I'm one of those people that like to file ASAP.
Why does eBay take so long?
Last year, they sent me a "correct" 1099-k at the end of March, which fouled everything up.

·8 months agoA lot of employers wait until the last day to send W2s as well.

·8 months agoIt's well within their rights as long as it is sent in the legal time frame.

Ebay is probably just holding off until the last minute just to **bleep** everyone off.

·8 months agoIt's standard by many companies to send the 1099 later. As others stated it's more so at the end of January than the end of March.

One of the this sellers get mad about on this board is "pushy" buyers who start complaing about an that has not shipped before the seller's handling time has elapsed.
On the list things about eBay that I don't like, the fact that eBay provides my 1099-K when they are supposed to would be near the bottom of the list.

·8 months ago". . . eBay waiting until the last legal day to send 1099's."
I wonder if anybody working at the IRS ever says, "I'm sick of the American People waiting until the last legal day, April 15, to send their 1040s to us."

·8 months agoWith this new way the USPS will be postmarking mail, some people may have a late Tax Return if they mail it on April 15th.

·8 months agoAnyone else remember the days when Post Offices would stay open until midnight with staff in the parking lot to take people's tax returns and postmark them the 15th of April?
You didn't even have to get out of your car, lines down the block.

·8 months agoI remember but those days but very few people will use the mail to file their tax returns in 2026.

·8 months agoI have never seen that but I have never waited until 15th of April to mail it in. I have always complete the taxes as soon as possible, usually before 15 February.
Something I noticed this year is the 1099 from one of my banks did not include the account numbers for the interest bearing accounts. This bank I have 3 accounts and last year 3 1099's were issued. This year it was only 1 1099 to account for all 3 accounts. I checked and it is correct when I add up all of the end of year statements.
I don't know if this is something new with IRS or if it is just new to my bank doing it this way.

·8 months ago"I have never seen that . . . ."
It was something you could always expect to see on local TV news. Many TV stations would send photographers and reporters out to large regional post offices to film those long lines. And there usually was a conversation with at least one person who said, "I'm shocked to see this line. I thought I was the only one who waited until the last minute." He obviously missed the April 15 newscast from the previous year.

·8 months agoDo you think that there's a little ebay gnome frantically typing out 1099s?
Last time I checked, 1099s were auto generated while taxes have to be prepared.
But go on
gone.c-33
·8 months agoDo you think any company worth its salt that has their 1099 auto generated is just going to send them off without any extensive verification and spot checks?

OP8 months agoApparently not when they send a corrected one at the end of March. This is from the email they sent.
We have recently made corrections to the calculation of gross amounts reported on your 2024 1099-K to remove transactions associated with orders that were unfulfilled, never created, or canceled at the request of you or a buyer.

·8 months agoScwhab says it won't have the tax papers for our brokerage accounts until late February.
I get tax forms from close to 20 sources, as of today all we have is my wife's employer, one form from one bank for one of the 3 accounts I have there and my youtube royalties. That is it, 3 out of 20. Still waiting on 3 brokerage accounts, book royalties, ebayx2, paypal, mercari, district.net, 3 more bank forms, my major youtube sponsor, and everything related to health insurance. Then I will have to track down the websites I sold dribs and drabs on and manually account for that as well.

·8 months agoAll companies have a time frame which they have to send a 1099-k...It's rather early.
And wouldn't it be better to make sure there are no mistakes before you get any?
I remember one year eBay made a big mistake and sent out...1099-k(s) to everyone I think that was the mistake...to everyone...😆
And then sent out letters to ignore the 1099-k(s).
