I'm seeking advice from experienced eBay sellers
Specifically regarding concerning changes in my selling experience over the past two years. After maintaining Top Rated Seller status and being with eBay for over a decade, I've encountered several issues that have significantly impacted my business:
- Payment Processing Issues:
- Multiple instances of withheld payments, including one case exceeding 30 days, during which time I had made close to $500 in sales and had over $300 in pending status prior to said “investigation†when all said and done they ended up only paying out about $60 with no explanation
- Unexplained deductions totaling over $500 from pending payments
- Four separate incidents of promised reimbursements being denied after written confirmation
- Had a payment state was canceled for over $70, this was just before the “investigation†got an email stating they had attempted a deposit but that it didn’t go through, I contacted my bank to ask why it wasn’t accepted, they stated no such deposit had ever been attempted, I go back and ask eBay what this is all about, they say that payment was credited to my account. I inform them that it wasn’t in my account or on my site earnings, they say it was credited to my account and if I didn’t have any other questions they didn’t have anymore information and hung up on me.
- Shipping and Tracking Concerns:
- Rating downgrade from Top Rated to Below Standard due to USPS scanning failures
- eBay acknowledged these were carrier issues but maintained the negative impact on my account
- Customer Dispute Handling:
- Multiple cases where buyers damaged items or falsely claimed items were counterfeit
- Required to accept returns and issue refunds before receiving items back
- Additional penalties applied without clear justification
- Shipping labels purchased for returns were not refunded as promised
- Feedback Management:
- Demonstrably false negative feedback remains posted despite evidence
- Approximately 50% of positive feedback from the past two years has been removed
- Current 95.3% rating appears to be artificially deflated
- Monthly sales have dropped from $2,500 to nearly zero following these issues
Most concerning is the inconsistency in policy enforcement. I've observed sellers with more negative feedback maintaining higher ratings, while my account faces strict penalties despite documented evidence supporting my position in disputes. Has anyone else had these types of issues ? I’m not sure who to contact about this at this point.

It is surely not eBay.
You have to operate within the ebay policies you state that you know about. Online selling here is self-service. If you are involving eBay in your transactions, that is never going to be a winner.
If you are below standard at this point, your account might be 1 or 2 bad transactions away from being restricted permanently.
If you think a problem with a transaction might arise, you can come here for help before things go in the wrong direction. Better to deal with issues on the front end rather than after the fact, which is where you reside now.

I'm sure that most of the items that you have listed there have a policy explaining why you are having an issue, beginning with the first. But about the "Rating downgrade from Top Rated to Below Standard due to USPS scanning failures".
I recommend you to check again the policy.
One cannot get downgrade to Below Standard because of postal scanning failures alone.
In fact, if you don't upload any tracking number at all, and only mark as "shipped", you would still stay at "Above standard" level.

OP1 year agoThat’s good to know, I had four customers get refunded for these 4 late shipments, I got refunded for one as I was able to demonstrate they did receive their package however the other orders were missing the option to submit an appeal, by the time all packages were confirmed received and I went to fight it I was told I could not appeal orders that happened more than 90 days ago. To which I replied 90 days was not one month ago. They then disconnected me. I tried again and they did the same thing, hence why I am now subjecting myself to this thoroughly degrading treatment in hopes of possibly finding a decent human being who can help me better understand what is happening and what options are available.

OP1 year agoInteresting thought, you’ve got all those numbers wrong as I would not be here if thar were the case, luckily one got enough customers who know they’re getting quality when they come to me that it keeps revenue from drying up but the only issue is there’s not enough people willing to pull the trigger. I never said nah, there’s just been no one to really step up, to make matters worse the few who did actually spend some cash either didn’t leave a review or didn’t mention anything about the game. As you will see I do have plenty of great feedback. Your comment demonstrates you didn’t even bother to look at the positive feedback which demonstrates the problem with I’m having here beautifully. People only see what they want to or are focusing on seeing. I could have 3,909 positive ratings and it wouldn’t even matter because of these negatives. That’s what it all comes down to, that’s why frankly I don’t give a **bleep** anymore. I’ll still provide then same service and my customers the same options but eBay can suck it. If you don’t have anything helpful or positive to say, I kindly ask that you keep it to yourself as I still have a very real situation to navigate here. To the people saying it makes sense I’ll just say that each of you are disgusting human beings, regardless of my seller level or what mindless customers who act like children have said no one deserves to be robbed, lied to, discriminated against or treated unfairly, neglected or subjected to abuse and then judged harshly and told the deserve it based on only surface level information. When/if you grow up you may realize this says more about the type of person you are then myself. Again that was directed at the masses and not the commenter I’m responding to at the moment who made an insulting assumption but provided a reasonable point, which happened to be in accurate and at expense as opposed to asking a question had decided an assumption was worth anyone’s time, I’d say thanks but that would be dishonest

·1 year agoBuyers don't choose shipping in your listings. It is set as a flat rate. They HAD to 'choose' $20 because that is what the listing is set as by you. I agree with the others--end your listings and read up on how to sell and ship. If you keep going, you might be shut down for good.
https://sellerstandards.ebay.com/dashboard Here is your report card. It shows what sellers are judged on by eBay. How does it look?
counterfeitbay
OP1 year agoI’m aware of how selling and shipping works, maybe you need to brush up on economics. If some bids a dollar and eBay takes over half that you freeze or starve to death. We learn that very early in life, some later than others. Though it’s very simple when you sell items you have purchased you have to receive more in return than you paid initially. This creates a profit. However as is clearly stated these listings are not intended for a dollar they are intended for selling cases of comics or whatever it’s for. These can typically cost $30-70 bucks or more to ship. Meanwhile 99% of sellers selling CGC items charges a flat rate $20 to ship, if you believe that’s for any reason other than to pad costs then you are a child. The reason I have done so is to dissuade the non targeted audience and invite the targeted audience, as people who buy in bulk will know what I’m charging is well below what it will actually cost demonstrating cost is not the driving factor. I would have thought this would also keep people making the absolute lowest bid they could and thinking they would get hundreds or thousands of dollars in products when the listing clearly states what you receive will be directly equivalent to what is ultimately spent. Theres nothing dishonest or difficult to understand about that, in fact it’s incredibly transparent and frankly something I would find refreshing as opposed to how these things generally go where no matter how much you spend you may come up empty handed. I thought no, that’s not right and I’m going to make it so the more you spend, the better it gets, guaranteed and clarified up front. What’s been the result? A bunch of ppl spending a dollar and getting upset when I sent them $20-30 worth of product because they paid $20 shipping for a $1-10 bid which they chose to buy. Now does that mean I’m a bad seller or the education systems continuously failing each and every one of us is Beginning to show in ways that we should all be a lot more concerned about then the general focus appears to be in this country?

·1 year ago@counterfeitbay
You get to below standard by not resolving return cases on your own and allowing eBay to step in and refund buyers.
One or two more of those and your account could be toast.
Make sure to respond to Item Not Received cases as well if those cross your path. Don't allow eBay to do that for you.

·1 year agoHolds are triggered when you have not earned sufficient trust to allow you to be paid. When you have a record of small sales and a large dollar sale is made, you will see holds.
Ebay does not unevenly apply discipline to sellers. Most Ebay discipline is automated. You apparently do not know how your performance is rated. Feedback is not a component of how a seller is rated, nor are the DSRs. The lousy FB you think you see on other sellers has no bearing on whether they are rated Below Standard.
Your FB looks worse than a seller with a larger number of negatives. Your responses say the buyer who left the negative is correct - you need to stay away from buying here.
I see you are offering ESE. If you are offering ESE and your packaging does not meet required limits, is too rigid your shipment will not get scanned. This one if the most common reasons for not getting scanned.
Other reasons for no scans is not enough ink or toner in your printer.
Under most circumstances Ebay does not refund for shipping labels, especially if the claim was seller faulted - like counterfeit, not as described etc.
Seems like you have not bothered to read and learn the rules. Have tried to use the phone instead of reading and learning. Customer support is often as ignorant of Ebay policy as you are.
I suggest you close your listings and start over.

OP1 year agoYoure mistaken. We can’t see the levels of other sellers. What I’m referring towards when I say rating is the percentage, which we can see which happens to directly be influenced or us supposed to be based on positive or negative feedback. For example, I have a 95% with 7 negatives yet can plainly see many other sellers with a dozen to 2 dozen or more negatives (with much worse complaints) maintaining 98.9_99.8% scores, which not only seems lopsided and manipulated also appears to clearly have done in order to create an advantage for sellers who apparently engage in highly suspicious likely dishonest tactics which can clearly be determined by looking through their feedback. I find this concerning and directly relevant as I’ve noticed even I generally won’t bother checking the feedback when it’s not below 98% as I’m quite familiar with the fact that there are a lot of unreasonable people and that only seems to be getting worse.
what’s affected my level has been 4 packages of the last 100 now orders now I believe that were never scanned in which we have determined the customers received which they have deemed to be late shipments which they claim puts me in below standard, what bothers me is that not only does that seem unreasonable to begin with because I can only be responsible for how I do my job, in the time since they imposed new additional fees this has amounted to coming up on nearly $200 they have taken in addition to regular fees for what they state is below standard performance when I have literally done nothing different than when I was “top rated†which to me feels like targeted robbery. To make matters worse it says if evaluated today I’d still be below standard. So what there is no position between below standard and top rated now? We know that’s not true, yet I’ve had no issues since these 4 packages, to me that seems dishonest and wrong yet I’ve asked three times what they are expecting me to do. They answered one of three times with get those sales up, which is odd when it very much would seem that they are actively working against me in this regard. I realize that I am not doing as much as I could to combat this but at this point I’m done jumping through hoops and acting like anything I do actually matters. When people who actively lie cheat and steal from their customers are protected and individuals like myself who have been nothing but honest and reasonable are treated like how you might expect these other sellers to be treated who don’t do this, kind of throws a wrench in the whole philosophy where the imbalance creates a self fulfilling prophecy. Good sellers can become bad sellers when bad customers create a dangerous environment for inexperienced sellers who are then unable to find support or guidance for challenging situations as support ignores everything and anything said, then the community hears what they want to hear and can’t move past themselves to let their assumptions remain where they belong and listen to what is being said not focusing on who is saying it long enough to think about what may be happening and potential practical steps or solutions that may be necessary or helpful or useful to take or even know about for that matter. Is how I see it, at the moment

·1 year agoThere is a LOT here to digest. My first piece of advice would be to end all your current active listings until you can get a handle on is going on. I would start with the financial aspects mentioned. Review your sales, returns...... and line the numbers up with your monthly eBay reports. I suspect some of the financial aspects may be related to return requests, INR's, possible chargebacks.....
As far as what customer support tells you be aware that customer supports reputation has become abysmal and their goal is to get you off the phone even if that means lying to you.
As for the shipping issues you did not provide enough information regarding the "scanning issues" to be able to make any suggestions. Were these initial scans, in route scans or delivery scans?
You have sold 320 items and have 126 feedbacks as a seller which is about 40%. Given the buyer feedback rate these days that is probably far above the average and it is not a case where 50% of your positive feedback was removed. Feedback scores are calculated the same for all sellers positive feedback/total feedback over the last 12 months. In your case that is 121/127 = 95.3%. Feedback does not factor into your penalties. What do your seller levels look like?
counterfeitbay
OP1 year agoThank you, that was the best answer so far. I have no charge backs, like I said, most of my customers are very pleased when they shop with us. I take a lot of pride in what I do and go above and beyond for each of my customers regardless of how it may appear. The fact of the matter is each person who wasn’t happy had options, I don’t ignore customers or tell them to deal with it. I provide options, I offer discounts, I try to make it right, yet I still guy customers who refuse to compromise or even communicate in many cases. Every one of my negative feedbacks are from individuals who either believed they were going to get much more than they paid for or are outright lying. Nothing I can do about that, I do know that individuals with no enemies have never stood for anything in their lives so there is that. I mean, if you think it’s me then explain what I could’ve done differently for let’s say
guy who claims “smoke damage†I admitted upfront it was possible, because yes there was a smoker in the house, however I had it sealed in plastic, sealed in a bin, in the closet, in the basement, in addition to this I wipe everything down with bleach and spray packaging with febreeze. The fact of the matter is they received a brand new, never opened book that I highly doubt smelled like smoke which they stated had “smoke damage†that’s a malicious buyer and frankly probably the person my ex was sleeping with. Because I contacted them upfront to apologize and offered them buy one get one free on their next purchase for anything they’d like, they said not to worry about it that they were just disappointed to which I said if I can do anything to make it right let me know, they turned around and left that feedback, I contacted them again like what was that? They said their “honest†feedback, I refunded them in full and asked that at the very least they make it neutral, they said not to bother them bout it anymore. I sent two revision requests which they ignored. Now I could be wrong but I do not believe I was in the wrong there. That one review after over a decade pretty much put me out of business btw. If that wasn’t bad enough then I’ve got the guy with the records. I explained that in my response that doesn’t do me any favors? Well the truth can only be stated for what it is, idk what any of you would have done differently. They knew, the listing stated it as well, the records were not damaged, at all, I have pictures to prove it, I told this to eBay, they said work it out with the buyer, the buyers history shows they did the very same thing to someone else for no reason. At a certain point it needs to be acknowledged that this whole system is deeply flawed. Pay attention.

In this case I would have stopped the communication after the first go round. It has been a long time since I had a negative feedback but I had a few early in my selling days. I used those for experience and simply put my opinion aside, regardless of what it was, and tried to put myself in the buyers shoes, good, bad or ugly. I would have simply responded to the feedback in this case and stated buyer was fully refunded for the item and allowed to keep it if you did allow them to keep it.
Now I could be wrong but I do not believe I was in the wrong there. That one review after over a decade pretty much put me out of business btw.
You appear to still be selling items. Feedback may or may not influence other potential buyers but it does roll off after a year.
If that wasn’t bad enough then I’ve got the guy with the records. I explained that in my response that doesn’t do me any favors? I don't see the feedback for the records but there is always the possibility that the records got damaged in shipping. I would have asked the buyer to hold onto the records and the original packing, fully refunded them and told them I was filing a claim with USPS and I may need their assistance if USPS want's them to take the item to the PO for inspection. I have had a couple of these some buyers cooperate and some do not.
At a certain point it needs to be acknowledged that this whole system is deeply flawed. Pay attention.
That I will not argue with you on. The feedback has become pretty much one sided as far as having any value. Sellers can only leave positive feedback for buyers but buyers are free to lambast sellers to their hearts content. In addition the percentage of buyers that leave positive feedback these days has drastically declined from when I first started selling. However, you can bet that a disgruntled buyer is going to leave feedback 99% of the time.
On the good side the feedback does not impact your seller level which could result in increased selling fees and potential punitive action(s) by eBay.

OP1 year agoYes, each order of coins contains coins from that shown in the listing, why wouldn’t it? And why would you assume it didn’t? Obviously someone who pays $10 is going to get a different set than someone who pays a hundred? Can you explain why any buyer who opens an NAD case would have been refunded without having to return an item? Surely you know this: If/when a buyer opens an NAD case, the seller has just a few days to either send the buyer a prepaid return label or to refund without requiring a return. If your buyer was refunded without being required to return the NAD item, that means you did not respond to the case and eBay refunded the buyer from your funds.
