I'm done selling on eBay
I've been selling on eBay for 23 years (actually I just looked and I started on eBay in 2017, now I'm even more irritated...lol), never before have I had such issues as I am having now. The fees are ridiculous, the scammers are out of control, and my payouts are constantly being put on hold. I have a perfect selling record, no charge backs, no disputes. eBay doesn't give a squat about small sellers any longer, they only care about the high volume of sellers/scammers from China. I will not sell on this platform again

·1 year agoEvery Internet Marketplace has beefed up their efforts on "Trust and Safety", some payment services like PayPal have as well.
Holds are now more frequent and trust must be earned.
You appear to be selling automotive related items where as an industry, return rates are high, and online so is fraud by buyers and sellers.
As an infrequent seller, you may not have faced the same pressures in the past because there were somewhat fewer crooks and you had not offered anything they wanted.

·1 year agoYou only get taxed (or not taxed*) when you claim eBay gross income on your annual tax form(s) i.e. IRS and any state income tax form whether or not you receive a 1099 K form or not. from eBay or any other on line selling venue
* if your claimed selling costs exceeded your gross income)

·1 year ago@gasidahoeBay has really been cracking down lately - one reason is to try to prevent account theft. A seldom used account but in good standing with longevity like yours is one type that scammers try to hack - eBay accounts are sold online. When this happens, the real account holder suddenly starts having all of this bogus high-dollar stuff listed that they do not own nor have never seen before and it creates a huge mess.
Getting up and running here, or being an intermittent seller, is tough, absolutely, but the site is trying hard to deal with scammers. Also the fees haven't risen in quite a while - shipping is another matter. 😣
I've sold here for 20 years or so and after I leave, if I come back later this year I'll get hit with the payouts hold, too, and I just sell humble things compared to you. I'd advise just continuing along and try to list things on a more regular basis - it'll get easier.

Inflation, people have to pony up their property taxes soon - like by Dec - home prices have gone up = higher property taxes - glade I escrowed mine - some folks done, coupe Hurricanes battered the S.E. twice in a couple weeks - kiddos went off to college and back to school not so long ago, our unemployment office has had more people in the parking lot than in a long time, see you only have zero listings - can't sell out of an empty box of odds and ends.
Here in "Dog Patch Georgia" county of 113K - see many businesses starting to promote price discounts to attract customers - new home building permits have been reduced - build to order only - not much spec housing building.
Sold forklifts (capital goods) for 41 years and found that sales activity is never a straight line but rather up and down like a Duncan yo-yo. Sales activity has been down this year according to friends I know & still in the industry.
It appears that some people in DC has inflated some key numbers on employment activity- not a new practice - they all lie a little, cheat a little but are sincere about it IMHO..

Moving on may not be the best answer to your issue - find stuff that people need vs the like to have stuff

·1 year agoSelling on Ebay is not for everyone. You have to be consistent in listing and sales. Taking a break for a period of time doesn't help as you were advised by others how the payout works. You are looking at awhile until that first payout but once a seller gets into the grove of things those payouts then come quickly. If you are at the mindset where you take breaks and want immediate payouts then don't sell on Ebay. This isn't for you. Ebay looks at sellers as a business not a yard sale.

I quit selling this Spring, and my reason was simply because life's too short.
I have posted here many times that I'd not want to be a new or returning seller here now for anything. So... I'm for real out. 😊

·1 year agoYou are taking this too personally. Ebay is a big corporation and if you want personalized service you will have to go elsewhere. There are about 18,000,000 sellers on ebay and they won't look at your seller ratings. All they care about is whether your buyers will have an issue or a chargeback that might require a reimbursement so therefore the hold. Don't start thinking that you are a special case out of 18,000,000. None of us are.

·1 year agoSo, a lot of sellers got around the 'hold'.
Some sellers sell expensive items and some super cheap items together.
If you sell like say 10 postcards at like maybe $1.00 each monthly you probably wouldn't get these holds anymore.
I understand you want to sell high end items...but mix it with cheapie items...stamps, post cards, decals or whatever...and eBay wants to see funds coming in every month...they don't have to be expensive.
I suggest trying this before giving up...you come a long way and I suggest not giving up.
And usually the buyers who buy cheapie items leave feedbacks.
Hang in there and don't give up.

·1 year agoIve been selling here for 25 years, but because I am now a very infrequent seller, my funds are always held. So dont take it so personal...I dont.

·1 year agoI have 'express payouts'...which keeps me here for emergencies.
A buyer pays me today and I can get it tomorrow after 10PM in my bank.
That's a plus to stay here.
Especially with the holidays coming up....I can get payouts 365 days of the year the next evening.

OP1 year agoI have express payouts as well (only it hasn't been very express lately), my biggest gripe is I have never had this happen in the past when were more active. Now all of a sudden this year, I get hit with 3 holds in a row. Its not really the time to get the funding its the principal, I've been selling for a long time, albeit in small quantities, and I've never had an issue. It seem they care less and less about small sellers and cater to the large China sellers

It's eBay. Some days you're the Dog, Some days you're the fire hydrant.
We see sellers that have nothing but problems.
We see sellers that have no problems at all.
Fee's are high. Postage costs continue to increase twice a year, every year. Buyers refuse
to read or are incapable. Mail gets lost, mis delivered, returned, damaged.
But here is where the customers are. Woof-Woof!

·1 year agoLooks like, until your recent sales, that you havent sold anything since August,so Ebay determines you to be an infrequent seller. That would cause your funds to be held. Your length of time here doesnt matter..just recent sales. But happy trails!

However, whenever I mention that here I get nailed by some old timers here who say it isn't the reason for a hold on funds.
I actually had one responding to me this week when I mentioned that and his comment got '.....' by Khoros or someone.

OP1 year agoI've had selling gaps in the past, I've never had funds held until recently. I was told several time by customer service that its temporary, its not temporary at this point. And my length of time should matter as well as my seller reputation, eBay is too big for its own britches , they show little to no respect for small sellers that helped them get started

·1 year agoProbably because he is selling $100 to $700 electronics and mechanical parts - Some of it being the stuff scammers actually look for -
He doesn't need luck - He needs protection - And in my opinion, for the amount of fees being taken, there is no reason why ebay cant offer sellers protection from the buyers they don't/won't vet because they need buyers so badly... Talk about having your cake and eating it too...
