If the Buyer starts an INAD but has no credible proof
If the Buyer starts an INAD but has no credible proof that your item is damaged or defective how do you proceed ?聽
聽
I know you accept the return and refund but where's the proof of INAD ?
聽
If I get the item back and find it is okay by testing it what then ?
聽
I feel like I may have been hit by a Remorser a few days ago. I'm going to check the item with specialized testing equipment and find out if it's okay but i doubt there's much I can do if it is Okay.
聽
What's strange is the Buyer filed an Inad and took pictures of the Item that matches the Description 100% and he included these photos in the Return.聽

There is no proof of INAD. eBay is not present to observe what is shipped, wehat is received, or what is returned. That is one of the drawebacks to online transactions.聽

You count yourself lucky that you actually got it back intact, and you relist it and sell it again.聽

I think you are correct.聽

路4 months agoRemorse returns happen. They are an infrequent, but expected part of selling online. Your recourse is to be thankful when you receive the item back in its original condition, relist it, sell it again, and move on with your day. Selling online is a numbers game. At least you don't have the headaches that come with owning a brick and mortar store.

Watch any podcast and consider the source ... it's a new definition that fits and may end up in the dictionary soon.

路4 months ago@nh_sales_lv聽 Whatever you said, it wasn't eBay that removed it.聽 You didn't know these forums are run by a whole other company???聽 A few of the rules come from eBay, like don't name and shame specific eBay members, don't make suggestions about other platforms sellers should go to.聽 聽But mostly it's vague rules about "respect" etc., and whatever kh -oros employees are on duty have discretion to define "respect".聽聽
But complaining about their moderating decisions is also against policy, FYI.聽聽

路4 months ago@gurlcat聽Thanks for pointing that out. I had to write that post twice after I closed out of the thread by mistake. In my initial draft I mentioned I generally take 25% in those situations. I'm going to add it back in.聽

You get the item back. If it checks out okay, report the buyer. Don't listen to the those who tell you it won't do you any good to report the buyer. (Side note: Why tell someone they have the option to do something, then follow up by telling them it is a waste of time? No need to be a negative Ned.)
聽
Reporting the buyer does several things. 1) It puts it on the record that this buyer has abused the return process. It creates a papertrail or adds to it. Eventually that buyer will be gone. Until then, it may help other sellers down the line who are victims of their abuse. 2) It protects you from negative feedback. If the buyer leaves a negative feedback, you can have it removed. The feedback does not even have to violate another policy. Simply abusing the returns process is enough to have any negative feedback removed. 3) eBay will reinburse up to $6.00 of the return shipping cost. While that probably won't make you whole, its something. Everybody complains and moans about fees and how expensive it is to sell on eBay, but when it comes time to take advantage of the few policies that benefit sellers, people want to be negative.聽
聽
Now, if you have the ability to reduce refunds, it isn't very hard to find a reason to do it. Per policy, buyers are expected to return everything back to you, including packing materials, and items are to be packed how you sent them. If they fail to do this, you are allowed to reduce the refund. If you do this, simply put a note in the text box why the refund was reduced. This informs the buyer, and should they appeal it informs eBay. Edit: I generally take 25% when I do this to account for the recent rule change where eBay does not refund selling fees when you issue a partial refund.聽

路4 months ago@christworks聽 Whoa this should come with a big ole asterisk * (there it is聽馃榿).聽聽
Yes聽@nh_sales_lv聽 could do this because the listing was free returns, BUT using it should be considered very carefully, because if you withhold any of the refund, you waive your WHOLE fee credit from eBay.聽 聽I learned this the hard way the first time I used the feature, withheld only 7% of a refund because that was my calculation from the number of pieces a buyer kept out of a lot that she returned.聽 And really I was being too nice because they were the best pieces, really worth more than their simple quantity number.聽 Then imagine my surprise when the entire other 93% of the refund came from my funds, without eBay refunding their 13.6% portion like they normally do.聽聽
So again, consider using this feature carefully.聽 By the way I will add: consider it not just regarding the fee waiver, but the fact that this IS one of our rare seller protections.聽 I'm sure some sellers abuse it, and I'm sure some of those get reported by buyers to eBay, and everything people do on eBay, they talk about on social media, so everything done has a way of growing in frequency, inevitably.聽 聽Some day eBay will see this feature as too prone to abuse and take it away from us; it's just a matter of how long we can put that off.聽聽

路4 months agoI experienced this recently where the buyer returned a pair of boots with reason "damaged or defective". But then he typed into the "give us details" box that the left boot dug into the side of his foot and was very uncomfortable.
聽
When I received the item back, I inspected it, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. It literally just didn't fit his foot the way he wanted it to.
聽
I refunded him the full amount, and then I reported him for abusing the return policy. I do not report people willy-nilly, but when they actually write into the details box that it's "uncomfortable", then I think I have the proper justification. This particular person was also a seller, so he knew full well what he was doing.

路4 months ago@nh_sales_lv聽 So if you inspect the item and it's exactly as described, will you consider it egregious enough to report the buyer?聽 I would, because by having free returns you gave him the ability to take responsibility for his own remorse, and eat the cost of the original shipping.聽 But because he chose 'INAD', you will have to refund him 100% including the original shipping, as if you were 'at fault' for something.聽聽
He may do this frequently, but if sellers don't tell eBay they have no way of knowing.聽聽

I will echo what was said here.聽 聽Do the return, once its received, issue a refund.
Inspect the item for the defect.聽 If there is none, or the item is not the one you sent, report the buyer for a fraudulent return/abuse of the return system.
聽
You will still have to refund it, but this marks the buyer in the eBay system.
聽
Please, and I must state this, don't abuse the report features.聽 Only use them for situations where you are sure the buyer abused the return policy, asked for things that are not permitted, etc.聽 聽Don't use them as聽 a retaliatory method of "getting back" at a buyer.
As buyers, don't use the item doesn't match description or photos as a way to circumvent the seller's return policy, unless that seller was being obviously deceptive.聽 Both sides just need to own up to the mistakes they made, even if its costly rather that make it the other party's problem and make them "pay" for a mistake you make.聽 This goes for both Buyers and聽 Sellers.
聽
Sorry I went into all that, but there is nothing wrong with acting like a human that can admit to making mistakes sometimes.聽 Good karma is better than bad.聽 Good luck!

EBAY 30-Day Money Back Guarantee (supersedes "no returns" policy) allows customers to lie and claim anything.聽 聽EBAY does NOT require the customer to prove anything.聽 EBAY will force you to refund the customer (even if they return an "empty box").

路4 months agoA buyer doesn't need credible proof.
They just need to select the reason "not as described".
Even if you have credible proof that is IS as described, ebay will side with the buyer.
