I feel bad for the nice people who live there, but 95% of the time I have a scammer, unhinged buyer, etc it is someone from Florida.
I knew someone who used to live there, had many stories to tell me about people randomly trying to scam him, like shady glass companies will send people to parking lots to look for vehicles with chipped windshields to con them into buying a brand new one, which is partially why insurance for cars there is astronomically high (Florida is one of few states with no cost windshield replacement).
Every buyer who has messaged me after a sale, I've been courteous and helpful and get nothing but rudeness and a total lack of empathy back, which is something I don't get that often when dealing with buyers from other states.

·Aug 10, 2026 at 6:14 AM@quadcitypickers If you are serious about blocking Flordia buyers, there is a way to do it. Not as simple as a block button, but it works as I've used this tactic a time or two on very large items that I did not want to have to ship to western states.
Create a shipping table. You can make a table specifically for Florida, and simply make the shipping to Flordia some crazy amount. The couple of times i've done it, I've set the shipping to $1,000. Believe me, nobody from there will buy. You can even go higher!

·1 month agoSorry about your bad luck. I live in Florida. Have been buying and selling since 1999. No issues with Florida buyers. I did have one seller who lived relatively close block ME for no good reason. Guess they did not want to make the sale. GO JAGS! DUUUVAL!

·1 month agoI'm sorry to hear about all your bad luck. I'm happy to report that is not my experience with the state overall, thank goodness. I have a lot of customers from Florida. Maybe it is the type of stuff I sell, but the vast majority of my customers are terrific.

·1 month agoI know a lot, too. They sit in their mansions in California, Illinois, and New York. Many of them also work in D.C. and run organizations under the banner of various virtue-signaling causes.

·1 month ago · EditedYou could use rate tables w/ your flat rate shipping and set the FL rates high to discourage sales. With free ship listings you would use rate tables but add a surcharge. With calculated shipping there's not much you can do -- just ship and hope for the best:)
I ship frequently to FL but have nothing but lovely buyers there. Approx. 18% of sales last 30 days. Good Luck!!!!!

·1 month agoI'm kind of surprised it's the 7th smallest population state. But I've definitely sold to most if not all of the smaller ones, at least once. -Obviously Delaware tons of times, but only because there are FF's there. But for example I know I've shipped to Alaska at least a half-dozen times, and it's the 3rd smallest.

#1. Took him 15 days to tell me that he noticed it was messed up instantly after opening the package.
#2. I knew it wasnt messed up when i shipped it.
#3. Even ChatGPT knew it happened during installation.
Now i have a package in the mail that is less than 2 miles away from that order. What are the chances.

·1 month agoI would have thought the issue would be freight forwarders, those are the only buyers I sometimes have issues with in Florida (when the item isn't scanned delivered, and buyers coincidentally pick a time to open a case against me when I don't have the resources to fight them on it).
Florida insurance is astronomically high because of senior drivers. Rates go up a lot after 65 because the incidents involving car accidents are higher in that age group. I worked in actuarial for an insurance company in a previous job, we have astronomically high rates where I live too, but for different reasons.
