I ship to U.S. only and a buyer (I find out now) is overseas. What do you suggest?
Hello! I ship to U.S. only and a buyer (I find out now) is overseas. What do you suggest? He listed a U.S. address he said is no longer good. Should I cancel and relist, returning his payment?
Thanks for your suggestions!

Have you actually compared the ID of the buyer to the ID of the person who sent the message claiming that the address is bad?
This is very important!

OP4 months agoHi, this is my first using the eBay Community Message Board and I'm not sure how to end the responses.
Question answered! I will ask the buyer to update his shipping info with eBay and that should solve the issue.
Thank you everyone for your advice! The post was called "I ship to U.S. only and a buyer (I find out now) is overseas".

Not time to go back to the thread, but a buyer updating an address will have no effect on previous sales..... In other words, it won't change the address you are given to ship.
You have to cancel the sale......because of the address and let the buyer rebuy and put in the correct address at checkout.
If this info doesn't fit the situation........I apologize........

·4 months agoMy guess, the "I ship to US only" is irrelevant. Sound more like the buyer purchased and paid for a US delivery only to later ask for it to ship internationally, which will cost more and wasn't covered in the original payment? If so, cancel as problem with address. eIS is automatic when you are enrolled, so later the buyer can fix their ship to, purchase and pay accordingly, and seller can ship to whatever address eBay has on file

·4 months agoBonjour,
There must be a problem with your account, because I just checked the shipping costs for your first item to France and it worked—instead of showing that you don't ship outside the United States.
Best regards

I wanted to make sure you saw my comment earlier because I didn’t see confirmation, but please make sure the message you received asking you to change the address is actually from your buyer before you do anything!
Many unscrupulous people will message sellers who just sold an item and try to convince them to redirect it to them, but that has nothing to do with the actual buyer if so. I’d hate for you to cancel a legitimate sale because of that type of scam attempt.
jdbelt1960
·4 months agoI am not against messaging the buyer for legitimacy. I also have only two days to make a decision. Whether an account got hacked or the buyer asked for a change are reasons for cancellation. If the buyer wants it they can rebuy it with a correct address.

·4 months agoNo need to message the buyer, just compare the usernames.
albertabrightalberta
·4 months agoThere's no reason to send a message to the buyer if the buyer's ID is different from the person who is messaging to change delivery. If they aren't the same ID, it's a scam and the seller should ship to the buyer and address in the order.

·4 months agoSince you apparently use EIS, eBay International Shipping, it doesn't really matter that the buyer is overseas because EIS addresses are in the United States, so you should be able to ship to this buyer without a problem because your package goes to an address in the US.

·4 months agoClarify for me. If a seller expects the final destination as domestic, I expect to send ground advantage and charge shipping accordingly. What happens after that is not my concern. Now if a buyer asks to change that address internationally where you need to now select EIS after purchase (which I don't think a seller is allowed) and try to recharge the costs. The customer has already been charged and paid for a domestic delivery.

·4 months ago2 things:
1. When the international buyer purchases from a seller who doesn't ship internationally and that seller uses EIS, it's there are ONLY 2 ways that buyer can purchase:
Some buyers will choose the freight forwarder because it's cheaper (for him) than EIS because EIS includes extra charges that also include customs fees. (The buyer IS notified of the cost before they complete their purchase.)
2. Assuming that the same shipping service is used whether shipping to a FF or to EIS, there's no difference in price to the seller based on where they ship. However depending on how much of a fee the FF charges to the buyer, that can vary for the buyer vs. EIS.

·4 months agoIf the buyer bought it using a one address and then asked to have it shipped to a different address (no matter whether domestic or internation), by all means cancel the order. I also do not ship internationally due to the daily uncertainties.

·4 months agoYou ship to the address provided on the sales order. If the address is no good yes you have to cancel and refund him. Cancel for reason problem with address.

·4 months ago@jaspertl : I think at this point you pretty much have to. You can cancel citing the reason of "Problem with address." (This is assuming that the message you received about the address being "no longer good" did come from the same ID as that of your buyer.)
If the buyer is overseas, he needs to set his Ship-To: address properly for his international home address before sending payment again, and then you can just send your package domestically to the eBay International Shipping center in Glendale Heights (which will come up as your Ship-To: address with the buyer's new payment; you won't actually see his home address).
eIS takes full responsibility for the shipment from there on, including the possibility of taking returns and refunding the buyer out of their own pocket. Once they receive it from you, you're done with the transaction.

·4 months agoNever change the address from the one shown on the order (that does not have to be an address registered to the buyer's account, they can input any address at checkout, but you must ship to whatever address is provided to you by eBay and no other address).
If you got a message from a user asking you to change the shipping address for a recent sale, FIRST check that the message actually came from your buyer. If it is from a different user account, report the message and ignore it, and ship to the address on the order.
If it is from your buyer, you can cancel as others have suggested.

·4 months agoSuggestion:
If you're not using EIS, you should really look in to it.
Whatever reason(s) you have for not wantinig to ship outside the US, EIS covers it.
Oooops didn't see that the op is already using EIS.
When someone explains it to him, I'm sure he wont have any reservations shipping internationally.

·4 months agoya, you do show shipping international via eIS...so what are you now talking about? Does the buyer want you to ship internationally direct? Not doing that I understand.
slippinjimmy
·4 months agoI suspect the buyer gave a US Forwarder address they they either don't use anymore (maybe switched to a different forwarder) or they prefer this order to go through EIS.

OP4 months agoHi,
The mailing address said Torrance, CA but he messaged that address is no longer good and can I manage that? After a few back and forths, he said he was in the Middle East. He has not responded with a current address.

·4 months agoJust cancel as problem with address
jdbelt1960
·4 months agoJust cancel order due to problem address. There is a war going on over there so I doubt mail or package delivery is a priority.
caldreamer
·4 months agoCancel using reason "bad address" (that way you won't get a "defect" against your account). Once you "cancel this sale" EBAY will automatically "refund the customer" and refund your EBAY fees.
Be sure to notify the customer your reasons for cancelling. Be aware that customers can leave you "negative feedback" after sale is cancelled.
Even though you only ship to USA there may be occasions when a "foreign customer" purchases your item using a "freight forwarder". You only ship to freight forward located in USA. If you cancel this sale EBAY will give you a "defect" against your account.

·4 months agoAll your items ship internationally thru the EIS Ebay International Shipping......it's one of the safest ways to sell.

·4 months agoIf the buyer says he gave you an invalid address you should cancel (using the reason "problem with Address" or "buyer requested".
Then you can relist and tell the buyer if they want to purchase again to use the correct address.
If the buyer buys the relist and gives you the correct US address then ship the order as it complies with your "no international shipping" policy.
jaspertl
OP4 months agoThat's helpful, Thanks for your time!

·4 months agoIf the "new" address is outside of the US, then cancel the order using "problem with the address" as the reason. Then consider blocking the buyer as they tried to circumvent your shipping restrictions.

·4 months agoIt doesn't matter WHERE the buyer is.
Where does he want the item shipped to?
stainlessenginecovers
·4 months agoIf buyer is telling you the address they used is 'no longer good' then yes, cancel/refund and tell the buyer to use the address where they want the item shipped to. (if it winds up outside US, then buyer won't be able to buy anyway)

·4 months agoThe OP's listing are set up for EIS so the buyer CAN have it shipped their own country @jaspertl only has to ship to the EIS hub in Illinois.
