·5 months agoDepends what you mean. If by 'things' you mean listings, the closest they can come to virality within the eBay platform is 'hot auctions' where the amount of views and bids begets greater and greater algorithmic placement and thus more views/bids, etc. But unlike social media there is a termination point -if not the bidding reaching a dollar amount so high that nobody else will bid more, then the end of the auction itself.
But if you mean things from eBay going viral outside eBay, heck yeah- happens all the time! And there's no limit to how long it can last. Here's a great one from 2017. Went viral both inside and outside the platform.

·5 months agoMaybe 20-25 years ago now, some guy was dumped by his fiancée, who left him with the unused wedding gown, which he put up for auction here. Rather than photograph the unoccupied wedding gown just lying on a bed or hanging on a hanger, he put it on and photographed himself in it. 😆 I think that one went viral before "viral" was even a term...

I have been active on eBay since 1998 and many would say that I live exactly like Miss Havisham did certainly not any better than her!
And it’s kinda sad that so many people commented on this video but there are. 2 camps; 1) those who love this young boys music and 2) those who hate his Guts saying he plays with no emotion and his wrist position is wrong and he plays too fast.
The 2 distinct camps are fighting with each other, calling bad names etc., etc.
Too too passionate responses from the people who left comments!

·5 months agoYeah: the free public pianos in London's St. Pancras [train] Station! I've been through there many times, and there's usually someone playing them (there are several spaced along the long concourse below the International platform), but just one day after I passed through there a few years back, on March 29, 2017, John Legend arrived on the Eurostar from Europe and played a short concert. Aaargh... So close, but I missed it. Well, it's on YouTube anyway... 🤗

·5 months agoAll of the tube stops between Hyde Park and Regent's Park had terrific buskers as well (especially near the Joe Strummer Subway) and over by the Westminster stop. Don't recall a single clinker in the bunch.
These days all I hear is frogs and turkeys. 😁

·5 months agoMost likely it's because someone who likes it can think of four or five acquaintances who might also like it, so they forward it to their friends, who in turn forward it to multiple others, and there you are.
I once took a photo of #1 son chowing down at his favorite Chinese place in his college town. I think Google somehow matched its geolocation to that restaurant (possibly with my help; I don't remember now), and it ended up on the restaurant's own website. Over the years, Google kept sending me updates on how many people had clicked on that image, and last I saw, it had topped 100,000 views, which struck me as insane for just a modest Chinese restaurant (with really good food!), but there you are...
