I need some imput on a return.
I have a buyer that bought an xbox from me. I get a return because it was received damage. In the notes he says that the package got wet after it was delivered in a rainstorm. To me it was not delivered damaged, it got damaged after it was delivered. He now wants a partial refund. Any insight will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

We want to make sure every return is handled clearly and correctly. Because of our accounting setup, we process full refunds for returned items rather than partial adjustments. If you're unhappy with your purchase, please send the item back to us for a full refund. We're always open to discussing any special cases.

·4 months agoAccept the return and refund once you receive it back, that's what I would do, no partial refunds.
Partial refund means the item was received in good condition.

I lean toward 'Return', too. Out of curiosity (and before I commit), is it one of the units you sold 'For parts only'?

·4 months agoAs buyer, I would definitely was to return for a FULL refund on an electronic item that was damaged from getting wet. Tell the buyer to return for FULL REFUND.

·4 months agoThere is NO WAY you prove when this was damaged, before or after it was delivered.
So I would handle this just like any other received damaged/not as described return.

I would tell the buyer to take photos of both the box and item and send them to you. If it seems legit I would tell him to open a "not as described" case. If it appears like nothing shady is going on then I would refund the buyer and file a claim against the carrier, especially if the item was insured.

You're wrong. Photos of the box and the item aren't going to prove squat. How is a photo going to show if the item got wet? Maybe the buyer could just hose down the empty box with a garden hose. No. And you don't just refund the buyer and file a claim with the carrier. Then you're out the money, and the claim probably gets rejected anyway.
You just send them a return label, tell them to send it back or keep it, and hope to never hear from them again.

I'm not sure where you came up with that one, but in this case, the carrier just says "it got wet" because the seller didn't package it properly. Who in their right mind doesn't ship electronics in a plastic bag?

·4 months agoIf it's the sellers word against the carriers word, then what's the point of insurance? I guess if they lose it in transit but whats stopping them from making up a ridiculous story about that.

Uh...tracking would stop them from making up a ridiculous story about that. It either shows delivered or it doesn't. If they lose it in transit, and the tracking doesn't show "delivered," you win.

Yes, insurance is mostly for lost in transit items. There are very few circumstances where you will be reimbursed for damaged items. The carriers will usually say that it was not packed securely.
As another poster mentioned, the tracking number shows if the item was delivered or not. So if it doesn't show delivered, then you will get reimbursed when you file a claim with the carrier.

·4 months agoInsurance is basically good if the shipment is lost.
Always pack appropriately to avoid any type of damage.
Flush money buying insurance if it makes you feel comfortable.

Nothing more, nothing less.
I just put the ball in their court and see what they do.
Addendum: I will add that anything that could be damaged by water goes in a sealed plastic bag. Always.

So it unfortunately it is your fault since it rained.
A partial refund?...that I don't get...doesn't damaged getting wet means it is dangerous to use?
But buyer still wants it?
I usually don't say this...but tell buyer to return it for a full refund...and send a return label.
I bet buyer ends up doing nothing and moves on.
I think you are getting played by the buyer.

·4 months agoAsk yourself this question. Why would anyone want a partial refund for a "damaged" xbox? It looks like you've been doing this long enough to be able to figure this one out.

·4 months agoIt looks like you have been around. I would be happy it's a just a partial refund. Get a number that works and settle it and call it day. Tomorrow comes real fast.

Great advice. Some buyers love getting a refund just by claiming the item is "damaged." Maybe the OP should just send them a check for no reason whatsoever.
