I need help ASAP! eBay ended all my listings for bogus "No item listings policy"

I need help ASAP.

I woke up this morning to find the following e-mail titled "Your account has been restricted: No item listings policy"

Hello bangordiscount,

Your account has been restricted because activity on it didn't follow our No item listings policy. Listings must offer an item for sale. Want ads, place holders or offers to trade are not allowed.

What activity didn't follow the policy

Selling empty boxes or photographs of high value electronics are not allowed. Buyers may be confused that you are selling actual game console.

What you need to do next

You can't relist items we've ended. Please ensure your current and future listings follow this policy.

What is the policy

- A listing must offer either a physical item, which includes digitally delivered goods, or a service for sale
- Want ads, place holders, or offers to trade are not allowed

How this affects your account

- All your listings have been ended.
- All fees paid or payable for listings that are ended and/or hidden from search will not be refunded or otherwise credited to your account.
- A 30-day selling restriction has been placed on your account (starting on the date of this notice).
- During this restriction, you will only be able to send eBay member messages when you have a transaction with that member.
- Your Top-rated status has been removed for 1-cycle (if applicable).

Not following this policy in the future will result in additional account actions, which could include: restriction, suspension, hiding listings from search, ending listings, loss of seller rating, and forfeiture of fees.

Why we have this policy

This policy helps keep eBay a safe and enjoyable place to buy and sell, as listings that don’t offer an item or service for sale can be confusing for buyers.

@wastingtime101

I'm having problems responding to your post directly but here is what I wrong in response to it:

Thank you for taking the time to post. Based on what you're saying, it looks like multiple people were hit by this. The good news is I got my account reinstated. I have relisted the ONE item that caused my account to get hit by a 30 days suspension (now reversed) and all my listings pulled (652).

relisted item:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/164583261237

All I did was move it from the Video Games & Consoles>Video Games Category to the Video Games & Consoles>Original Game Cases & Boxes and in doing so removed the product details match and UPC. I also pulled the price from the body text of the listing as I plan on doing that to all my future listings (it makes editing the prices a bigger chore because you have to do it in the price box and text).

In case anyone doesn't believe me the original listing that got my account suspend is below:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/184484206383

What's crazy is that in the new listing I'm already getting hit by the "Add recommended item specifics" for this listing with the two being recommended as "Platform" and "Model". Well that platform is "Sony PlayStation 3" and the Model I suppose would be "Ghost Edition". But heck, if I put those as recommended who is to say I don't get myself in further trouble since I'm not selling the game, or a PlayStation 3 console (kind of a screwed either way scenario).

But regardless I can now confirm that the final reason for this brief suspension was that I miscategorized the above listing. Head scratching enough (I'll touch on this at a later date) "lucky" seemed to know that.

But yes, it boiled down to a miscategorization that an eBay algorithm or employee mistook as a policy violation of "No item listings policy" violation, something I'm assuming eBay is taken seriously because some of the shenanigans that are being pulled with PS5 scalping has left eBay with unsavory press.

Did I have the item in the wrong category? Yes. Did I deserve a 30 day suspension? I don't think so. I certainly would have moved it had I known the subcategory existed.

What stinks now is I'm getting the vibe of "you should be thankful we are letting you back to sell...."

I mean why can't they just restore my old listings? I'm going to lose all the sales data and original views, correct? What is the best way to relist? I'm assuming relisting is my only option now?

That shouldn't be a head-scratcher at all.

The email you received said "Selling empty boxes or photographs of high value electronics are not allowed."

I went to your completed listings and searched for the words box and only.

It took about 30 seconds.

But if it had not been in your completed items at the time, I would never have found it.

"The email you received said "Selling empty boxes ...is not allowed." "

I read every single post here, and it strikes me that this statement FROM eBAY itself (in the original email to the Seller/OP) is false.  As it turns out Empty Boxes are not only allowed but there is a subcategory for them.  Whoever pulled the plug on this Seller needs to learn their job.  I am SO glad I no longer sell here.

I think this is a hyper-technical issue.  While empty boxes are allowed to be sold on eBay they MUST be sold in a specific category.  Problem is that that OP did not list them in that category, but in the category where the games were sold.  So "technically" the boxes were improperly listed and a violation of eBay policy.  Therefore, eBay was doing its job.  It is a fine, but not insignificant, point.

Toughest thing about selling here is that sellers need to understand ALL of the rules and the fine points.  It can be difficult and perhaps many do not spend enough time 'learning' the details?  Then again perhaps many just do not grasp the details or the intricacies of the policies.  Perhaps not everyone is cut out to sell here?  Thankfully there are these forums where those sellers who wish to learn, can do so!

I agree in that yes the item was in the wrong category.  BUT, the Seller had no idea that a new category had been created.  EBay also had no call to completely wipe out their listings, every last one.  To top it off, the email they received was so non-sensical and riddled with contradictions that the Seller was only able to puzzle the whole mess out with our (somewhat reluctantly on some parts) help.

My point is that this whole kit and kaboodle could have been avoided if the eBay employee who pulled the plug on the Seller had sent an email saying, hey, item blah blah should be in sub-cat, please fix asap.  Would that have been so hard?

My fear for the op is as follows:

He had what should have been a WARNING level issue = 30 day ban (category mistakes should not even warrant a 3 day ban in my opinion, just listing removed and a letter stating why, if same item goes back up the same way THEN the bans should start but logic rarely applies to these issues).

That tells me though that while his current issue(s) keep getting resolved, then told that he is free to continue selling, his (for lack of better term) black marks are NOT being removed and since they accumulate over time and never actually go away the next thing that happens that should only be warning level issues could end up being a perma-level ban.  He needs to find some one willing to look deeper into his account and get these violations completely removed or at least know how close to the edge he is.

Had this been the sellers first black mark on his 10+ year record it SHOULD have just resulted in at most a warning letter, item removed, and possibly a 3 day ban.   Years ago we could SEE our violations, and know if they were actually removed or not.  I don't think op's violations are being REMOVED so much as glossed over, he gets to go back to selling not knowing there is now a metaphorical axe hanging over his head.

Coming back from perma-level bans are almost impossible and depend highly on WHO you know at eBay headquarters and not based on the actual issues involved.

****************************************************************************

As a secondary note I wish eBay would QUIT using those form letters for these violations and make them CASE specific.  Had the op not finally gotten through to both a blue on the board and the worker on facebook he would not have a CLUE that it was a simple category misplacement+ use of UPC codes.  The original email from eBay had nothing to do with what the ACTUAL issue was, and once his ban was over he would have relisted the same thing the same way again and it (being after a 30 day ban) would very likely resulted in a perma ban.   All because eBay seems to want to keep want to keep the waters muddy.

We as community board members can guess all day long what eBay MIGHT have meant when Op's come to the boards with the violation letters but we are not always right. Since some of these can result in not only the OP's losing their business it can also cost eBay itself thousands of dollars in revenue you'd think they could come up with a better way to communicate and explain what the ACTUAL problem may be.

Just my 2 cents... take it or leave it.
