The result is 128. I’m stupider than I thought!

·5 months agoSome days I think the sellers who post here regularly are more intelligent than the average seller, some days I'm far less sure that that's the case.

·5 months agoWhile there’s definitely a wealth of experience here, let’s not forget that even the 'average' sellers are the backbone of the platform. Experience doesn't always equal competence, and some of the best insights I’ve seen come from newcomers with fresh eyes.

·5 months agoLot of assumptions being made about the seller.
Could be they dont want to deal with you and said that.
They could feel obligated to respond to meet eBays advertising 'usually responds in'.
I typically dont like dealing with sellers if you used your selling account for the question.
I find sellers to be the most annoying buyers. Probably got burned by their buyer so they going to take it out on me.
Maybe they are a drop shipper and have no clue what the answer is. They arent just going to admit the inventory isnt under their control.
Maybe they think someone already asking questions is going to be annoying in the future.
Interesting over 50% of buyers who ask a question become trouble buyers post sale based on my experience.
This post is like you sending me an offer and I counter with a price higher than the actual price and acting like I'm stupid because of it.
It was intentional.
But they could simply have checked on the wrong item.

Then there's me...I ask questions and if they're answered in an honest and thoughtful way I buy. I don't ask questions if I'm not interested. A seller assuming I'm going to be annoying or a problem is perhaps to lose a good customer. I tend to save sellers that respond in a positive manner and buy again in the future.

·5 months agoI ran into a listing...A desireable vintage knife with a closeup picture of just the middle of the knife. Half the blade and handle out of the frame. Just the one photo. Curious I looked at the rest of their listings, all just one picture with a closeup not even showing the whole item.
Probably wondering "Why am I not getting any sales?"..............................

·5 months agoThe knowledge level of those who attempt to get better is incredible compared to those who don't.
This isn't meant as a personal brag or anything, but I have found the absolute top experts to be the people who either make or consume business focused ebay youtube videos. Not the ones where people shop at garage sales and pop up prices on the screen. The ones where they instead spend most of their time explaining things. I have a facebook chat group of a half dozen people who make videos like mine and the knowledge level there is absolutely incredible. They can discuss year over year drops in sell through rate and profitability in various categories, exactly how to minimize damages from the worst customers, why $1 difference in the price is the difference between selling in a month and never selling at all. A lot of that comes not only from experience but from actively researching subjects, doing real math on things, understanding every cost, etc.

·5 months agoMathing the math is critical. We see quite a few sellers on these boards that are just guessing rather than doing any product pricing research whatsoever and complaining of slow sales.
No work = low or no pay
There could be 5 million or more ebay buyers that buy only from free shipping listings because they won't do any math. Using a calculator is not even an option.

As a general principal, I find that those who are attempting to do better, even when they make mistakes, will be better often than those who make no attempt.
I see that play out in both business and personal aspects of our lives.
