I had a bunch of sales today. WHAT'S WRONG WITH EBAY?
Paraphrasing @inhawaii who I am sure was being hyperbolic ("I might not have any sales today. WHAT'S WRONG WITH EBAY?") but also tweaking all others who seem to think that eBay singularly and intentionally controls how many sales you get each day.
Actually it is Adam Smith who controls what you get.

·2 years agoI've found Labor Day weekend to be OK for sales (my store re-ups mid-month, anyway, so there's no reason for eBay to toss sales to me for the paltry $4.95 I pay).
Travel is booming this weekend, setting records. I will not join the teeming throngs, though - I'm working through the weekend in a big push to clear out and list everything before I shut down at the end of October. Heh - exciting Saturday night - putting hundreds of photos through post.

How Ironic the attempt at making a point to ridicule the theory that "eBay singularly and intentionally controls how many sales you get each day" where, if in fact the OP did have an influx of sales that day, and given the OP's normal sales numbers it would actually lend credence to the very thing he is deriding - ESPECIALLY if it is time to pay those store fees...

·2 years agoit's not a theory, it's fact, they do and it especially done in contrast to PL, if one has invested vs one that isn't (very noticeable in amount of sales from sellers who used PLs and then ditched them to rely on only organic sales especially) - noticeable in my own sales when I decreased elections and seen those numbers return when I raised them - the "control" is in aspect of Visibility and ebay doesn't deny or even hide this fact anymore "Low election will result in less sales"

And, as far some complaining no sales...selling everything including the kitchen sink doesn't help.
A seller will have better (perhaps) sales sticking to a specific category.
Where as, you will get 'repeat buyers' every week or month for those slow periods.
And now that there are a lot of retired people on social security...these are the great buyers...as soon as they get paid their monthly payment they make purchases.
There are I think 4 different payment dates that go out each month to these buyers depending on their birthday...where we get these swings up and down of sales by them. Kind of interesting.
I sell stamps. I can tell when a buyer got paid. LOL.

A hero to believers in Unrestricted Laissez Faire Capitalism (AKA The Great Material Continuum)
Adam Smith was a mid-1800 Scottish Economist. He wrote a book title “The Wealth of Nationsâ€. His basic premise was that individuals, looking after their own best interests, did an infinitely better job of keeping the economy stable than any central planner (i.e. government official) could ever do. I have likened it to image a government official trying to control, simultaneously, the speed, distance and destination of every car on the interstate highway system. With the government controlling your car what happens if you suddenly get hungry and want to pull off to get something to eat?
His central premise is stated thusly:
Every individual neither intends to promote the public interest, nor knows how much he is promoting it. He intends only his own security; and by directing that industry in such a manner as its produce may be of the greatest value, he intends only his own gain, and he is in this, as in many other cases, led by an invisible hand to promote an end which was no part of his intention.

·2 years agoWhat @fbusoni has posted makes the most sense overall. Play by the rules and you will be rewarded. Why would that not be the case especially knowing it is Ebay's sandbox.
Although i do not believe Ebay is targeting/punishing specific persons, i would not be surprised if it did happen.

I do enjoy these threads (for the humor and sarcasm) and find them more entertaining when those who think throttling does not exist get upset that others do. 😂

Seriously though... sellers who are doing well on eBay with (a) paid returns and (b) same day shipping, are not visiting these boards because they have no reason to.
That's probably why we do not see much rational discussion of how eBay actually works to the enormous benefit of those sellers who jump through all the hoops that eBay recommends.
I reckon that its simply a lot easier to spin fantasies about personal punishment at the hands of eBay than it is to buck up and improve one's customer service in a way that eBay will notice.
Or worse, actually pay eBay to purchase company software to "promote" your listings. A complete and unnecessary expense in my experience.

I got tired of one of the 2 resident gingers sleeping on my photo table and having to clean up the cat hair before I could take listing photos.

·2 years agoBetween ebay and District yesterday was my best day of the month easily.
The original poster has a store of bumper stickers, patches and lapel pins that start at a minimum of $10. That puts 83 percent of all bumper stickers on the website cheaper than his cheapest one.
The original poster has massive competition at much lower prices in flooded categories.
My card store that I no longer feed has very similar sales numbers and sizes, and like the original poster I am opting to just let it all crawl out at much higher margins than to try to blast it out fast.

I had allowed my older listings that are not in peak demand to bask in the eBay abyss for too long. I am rolling with the "blast it out fast" by putting them in the game as lowest price. Been getting quite a few more sales and sniffs lately.

·2 years agoYou can't do that with low end cards, as in that category you are always competing against people taking a loss on every single order or valuing their time at zero.

·2 years agoThere are actually people that think they do. We see it all the time on here. It's the, I said something nasty about ebay on the boards and they throttled my sales mentality. We also see the, ebay suspended/downgraded me and I did nothing wrong crowd.

·2 years agoWell, I know Adam from the old days, with his beaky nose and piercing eyes, and that self-satisfied smirk. And those busy busy hands - always getting into everything, invisibly, including trying to pinch me on the city bus. I jabbed him in the ribs and he hissed but man naturally desires, not only to be loved, but to be lovely! I told him he was going about it wrong. We ended up at the local brew pub watching the game. He's alright if you get him in the right frame of mind.
