I got a Request for refund for package not received, but I sent it to eBays Hub, so why do I have to pay and lose my item that I sold
Summary: kgarrity30 is concerned about a package sent to an eBay hub, reported as delivered to Indianapolis, and is unsure about eBay's responsibility in the case. funfactorychannel and a_c_green discuss the confusion between eBay's shipping services, reinforcing the difference between shipping names. Several participants clarify the situation, explaining that the package is likely at a USPS hub, not an eBay hub, and advise on using tracking information in any buyer claim. kgarrity30 later confirms using the tracking number to respond to the buyer. Multiple contributors highlight the need to distinguish between eBay and USPS facilities to properly assess responsibility for the package's status.
How do I find where the package is? How do I stay protected if eBay is the one that last had the package, it shows it was delivered to their hub in Indianapolis

·1 week ago · EditedThose USPS distribution centers are underfunded and understaffed, I could name many of them where packages can sit for weeks during the holidays.
You can be assured that it is going to get worse between now and February.
The good thing is that eBay now, if you lose an Item not received case, will give you your money back if the items gets delivered later.

INR Policy Updates
We’re always looking for ways to enhance our support and protection for you and improve your selling experiences. As announced recently at eBay Open, we’ve created a new policy to protect sellers like you during shipping delays that are out of your control.
When you use eBay Labels, we will protect your standards and reimburse you if the item gets delivered after your buyer has received a refund."
ALSO:
"Here is your reminder that any time of year, you can still get late shipment defects removed using this link:
https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp/defect
Do NOT choose "I shipped on time and have proof"
Instead, choose "Something outside my control". This works if you get a late shipment defect because of inclement weather, USPS neglecting to scan your parcel from their dropoff bin in a timely manner, or any other emergency. As long as you don't abuse this feature, it will get your late shipment defect removed every single time.
Bookmark that link, and pass it on, as this gets asked about DAILY on here.

·1 week agoeBay doesn't have the package, they just provide a portal for sellers to purchase labels from the USPS. USPS has the package.
kgarrity30
OP1 week agoYes, thank you, I see that now. I saw that it's on it's way to the hub and misread it. Well, at least it shows that it is received by and in the possession of USPS. Thank you everyone:)

OP1 week agoThis is the tracking number, which clearly shows that it is at an eBay Hub in Indianapolis, or somewhere after it left there

·1 week ago · Edited@kgarrity30 Don't know why you think this is an "eBay Hub" when the Tracking you provided says it is clearly at a "USPS Distribution Facility" in Indianapolis. An eBay Hub hasn't even touched this yet if that is what you are thinking.

·1 week agoThat is the USPS Indy distribution center. They are notoriously slow there. Never the less, it's only been there for the weekend which is normal.

OP1 week agoThank you everyone. I am sorry for the delay in responding, I apologize if I offended anyone by my lateness. I know it went to Indianapolis because that is what the tracking number says. I was given a choice of sending a refund, a tracking number and I think a message. I sent the tracking number as I had already messaged back and forth with the buyer. So far I have not heard back from eBay. I don't know the difference between the different International shipping or delivery, it's never specified. I just know that eBay has it according to tracking.

·1 week agoIndianapolis doesn't mean eBay has it though! The EIS shipping hub is in Glendale Heights, Illinois. If your package hasn't made it there, you are not out of the woods, and would be responsible for a refund.

·1 week agoHey @kgarrity30 are you going to address the questions you've been asked here? You got some very smart people willing to help, but you can't start a post and then just abandon it like this. You didn't provide enough information in your original post.

What makes you believe it's an "ebay hub" in Indianapolis?

·1 week agoThis one comes down to what the tracking shows and which address it was delivered to, so start there rather than at the hub.
Check the order for eBay International Shipping. If that is how it shipped, say so in the case, because the onward leg from the hub is eBay's and it should be reviewed on those terms. Several members in this thread are making that point.
Answer the request inside 3 business days. Add the tracking details through the request itself. To count, the tracking has to show the date you shipped, the date it was delivered and the address it was delivered to.
Do not refund out of your own pocket while it is unresolved. If you refund and the case was covered, you have turned a covered loss into a real one. Wait for the review.
Something calm for the case notes: "Tracking shows delivery to the eBay shipping hub on under number . This order shipped through eBay International Shipping, so please review the onward leg under those terms."
One thing worth checking: whether the request is an eBay Money Back Guarantee case or just a buyer message. They are handled in different places, and only one of them has a 3-day clock running.

·1 week agoI think you're seeing the USPS hub in Indianapolis, and yes I've heard it's a bottleneck. How long ago was it sent?

·1 week agoIf you used EIS you do nothing.
Once the package gets to the US hub, you're covered.

Are you sure that it was sent to an eBay hub in Indianapolis?
We have no knowledge of an eBay shipping hub in that city.

when did ebay open a hub in Indianapolis?

·1 week agoIndianapolis is the death spot for packages and mail. Nothing goes quickly through that USPO center. Go to your USPO and request they locate it, find lost package, etc.
Good luck. I hope they get Indianapolis straightened out before holiday shipping but I doubt that will happen.

·1 week agoNo, eBay does not operate a physical shipping hub or distribution center in Indianapolis.
Where eBay's Shipping Hubs Are Located
Glendale Heights, Illinois: The primary domestic/international shipping hub for eBay International Shipping (eIS) in the Midwest is located in the Chicagoland area.

·1 week ago · EditedI have 5 packages stuck in Indianapolis, one arrived there on 9/22, one on 9/23, and three arrived on 9/30, while the items I shipped later went through without a delay and many have been delivered.
They ship a truck from South Bend to Indianapolis every night around 5:45.
This is common for them, it gets worse during the holidays, eventually everything gets out.
My items are sitting in a holding area while they unload and process the newly arriving trailers first.
Normally if the backups are too bad, they reroute through Detroit, Chicago, and Pittsburg of all places.

·1 week agoVerify that you did use eIS. USPS' international hub is also in Illinois. Many sellers who ship direct internationally will confuse this USPS hub as eebay's IS hub
mam98031
·1 week agoAs long as the tracking shows that the Ebay hub received the package, you are fine. Have you checked the tracking number? If so, what does it say @kgarrity30 ?
If the package has not been received by the hub, then you are still responsible for the package or if the Ebay hub rejected your package.
Here is the policy page: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/shipping-items/setting-shipping-options/ebay-international-shipping-program?id=5348
albertabrightalberta
·1 week ago · EditedSince you use EIS and tracking shows delivery, you are protected.
Did the buyer open an INR (item not received) case?
If the buyer opened a claim, respond to it by pasting the tracking number into the claim. If they haven't opened a claim, tell them to do so.
If tracking shows delivery, the case will close in your favor.
