I understand & am sorry your frustration. It's been a tough year for many of us. You can't take it personally. These days it's like everyone want something for nothing. The entitlement of some can be like...wow! I had a customer contact me telling me it was their birthday and if they could have 50% off on a very expensive hand made item with free shipping. I replied with a "Happy Birthday " wish and that was that. Less is more.
I really like your shop. You have a lot of unique & eclectic items. We still have some time to make some more sales so keep the faith. Go take a break, pop open a bruskie and call it a day. Tomorrow is a new one and you never know.

This is business, not personal.
It is not insulting for a buyer to want to get the item as cheap as possible.

As a child, after a lecture about not swinging at a kid that called me a name........I asked my mother "what should I do?".......I got the "stick and stones will break your bones, but words never hurt you" adage...... which didn't satisfy me at all. That didn't get me any satisfaction......"But what should I DO?"
"Stick your tongue out at him........." Done that ever since....and it does give a modicum of satisfaction even when the person is on the other side of the internet........

·2 years agoive seen people asking insane prices for items. I recently tried to buy a chromebook motherboard some are asking 250 for it. I can buy a new chromebook for 100 dollars.

·2 years agoTrue. That was the point I am making. Too many sellers think they can ask and get ANY price they ask for junk they list. A used motherboard is not worth more than the whole chromebook. Too many seller have this same mentality and wonder why their store full of junk, gets no sales. The ones making sales are the ones who are not loading a store with non selling junk. Price to move or price to fail, that's a sellers choice.

·2 years agoAsking a price is not the same as getting that price. If the item sells at that price it means a buyer was willing to pay that price for the item. If the item doesn't sell, it means buyers aren't willing to pay that price.
So if a seller chooses to ask high prices and they get no sales, they won't last too long on ebay. They will cycle out of the site in time, just ignore them.

·2 years agoThere are PLENTY of sellers here with years old, over priced merchandise. It doesn't sell, and it won't sell. You can ASK any price you want. You can be firm on any price you ask, but that does not make it sell. Most buyers are not even going to click on something grossly overpriced. eBay is not going to waste the views on something no one wants.
There are plenty of sellers here who have sat on merchandise for a very long time. They aren't out of business YET because that inventory sat around, unsold, at over inflated prices. A LOT of the complaining you hear is BECAUSE of that. Now buyers are way more picky about how much they spend, and eBay is not rewarding sellers who have sat on unsold junk with views.
Point is, that as a seller, there is NO such thing as an "eBay price" like many seem to think there is. You can't overprice a motherboard because it's eBay and you want to retire on that ONE unicorn sale. Google and half a million other places to buy, eliminated any premiums on prices that eBay once brought. With a simple Google search, how many other places could you get that motherboard, and likely at a MUCH better price? There are very, very few things you may ONLY find on eBay.

·2 years agoOK if you say so. If a seller sticks around, they are selling something and making money otherwise it doesn't make sense for them to even be here.
If you are asking do sellers have overpriced items, absolutely. But if that is all they are trying to sell as you have previously suggested, then it is unlikely they will be here for long unless it is some kind of hobby for them and they don't mine losing money every month [if they have a store]. If they don't and they are only listings enough to stay within their Free Listing, then it isn't costing them anything and in turn they are making anything, so they are just wasting their time or doing it for fun.
Yes, no argument, buyers will typically bypass items that appear over priced to them. Again, what is your point. No one is disagreeing with this.
Oh now sitting on inventory for awhile, again absolutely. It has happened to me. Thing is sometimes what doesn't sell at all this year will sell like hotcakes in the next year. It is all going to depend on what buyers are looking for. I've been here for 24 years or so and I've seen this happen many times. So if you have the time, many times that old inventory will actually turn in the upcoming months. But then of course there are those things that just never sell, no matter the price, high or low.
You have this in quotes "Ebay price", not sure what that means. Do you mean that Ebay is pricing something or that it is the seller's price on Ebay, or did you mean something else.
I sell on multiple sites and I have done that for years. Many of the things I sell on Ebay I sell on other sites for more money and in many cases faster than I sell them here. Buyers can be funny people sometimes. Once you think you have them figured out, you don't and you learn something new if you keep your eyes, ears and mind open.

·2 years agoI have no idea why anyone would be offended by this OPTION. Don't like it, simply don't use it. It isn't a requirement, It is no more complicated than that.

Pretty simple:
1. Unless a seller actually creates what they are selling there is no need be insulted. Thats ridiculous at best.
2. Nothing is worth anything including my car the driveway in my pocket until its sold. Its worth $0.
3. If a seller has Best Offers on and is too begotten to entertain customers offers low or not more or less get upset over it means they are in the wrong business or might have an underlying health condition untreated.

·2 years agoWhy is it an insult? All you have to do is politely refuse and say this price is firm. It depends on how long you have had it listed, then you can counter - offer.

Seems weird reason to be insulted.
I guess this falls with the people who get heated when buyers send lowball offers.
I just say sorry I can't go that low, appreciate you checking out my listing. And not take any offense at all.

·2 years agoIt seems many folks put things on their "Watchlist", most of which are window shopping. I am a 24/7 seller. When items pop up that are being watched, i get the "send an offer" option, and i always send an offer. Usually my offers are 5-10%. Frustrating it is, when my prices are as low as i can go and keep my shop open. However, items sitting in my inventory are not doing me any good. Patience can be difficult, as i rely on my Ebay sales, as my only source of income. Since I am 24/7, I am quickly aware that someone has put one of my items on their watchlist, and i quickly offer. Conceptually, this allows me to try to make the sale, while it's "fresh". It also shows the customer that i am active and available.....Everyone loves a good deal. One out of every offer i make, turns into a sale. Not a great thing, but every bit helps.

·2 years agoThat is a common sense way to look at it. Glad they have this tool available. I normally go to my lowest price with the offer after checking the competition on some items. I rarely allow a counter offer. Send it and hope 10-15% accept.
Granted that some are competitors getting the offers and I could care less.
Some inventory can be considered dead money. Until you get someone to bite.... cha ching.
I look forward to those additional opportunities to move product.
If I can't afford to throw at least a 5% discount at a watcher, then I did a terrible job buying.
Take advantage of what is offered or ignore. Not a lot of rocket science to it.

·2 years agoThere is no way for ebay to single you out from the opportunity to send offers. If you find it insulting do not pay it any attention. I am a seller who when i feel like it send offers. Sometimes i just want to move some inventory. If a potential buyer is interested in a item that has been sitting why not send an offer. I think you have very thin skin if the offer option insults you and your a seller.

OP2 years agoI do send out offers on a regular basis, But I do not like being told to send an offer when my item is the best price already, or in much better condition, or basically a one of a kind item, That is when I should be able to get more than my competition Correct?, & We all want more when we can & should get it!, No Thin Skin Here!

·2 years agoOffers are strange: I had two offers in a row - someone wanted a heavy item "$10 free ship", also another heavy item same (both items were quite a bit more than $10 just by themselves). We sell to the world here - you are going to get all kinds - anyone who expects everyone to be reasonable is going to go through life disillusioned. Same goes with AI.

·2 years agoAbout 95% of my items are new and I start at 60-80% off retail price. I have best offer on all but one or two items. I would rather put $2 in my pocket than have it hang around for another year. Just my opinion.

·2 years agoIf you're truly the lowest price and yours is new while others are used, are you sure you priced high enough? What have comps sold for recently? Curious to know which item this is about.
You were asked to send offers by eBay or by a shopper?
If it's by eBay you have control and can turn that off in your communication preferences.
If it's by a shopper, that's the nature of the beast. Anybody in sales needs to have a thick skin and not take things personally. It's not a personal attack.
I find it incredibly tiring and time wasting to deal with unsolicited offers, however I do not take them personally. If I was personally insulted by someone asking for a lower price I would quickly find a new line of work.

·2 years agoWhy? What if I sell a New thingy for $20, others are $25 but I have NOT sold any in over a month...why NOT give me the idea to 'send an offer' for 10% off? Maybe I want to be reminded of that.
In YOUR way, I never would be.
It's ALWAYS better to be 'offered' or 'given a suggestion' that is OPTIONAL than not at all. ALWAYS!

And you do know that you have choices: accept, decline, counter or totally ignore.
Some people, and maybe most people nowadays, will always try to get things at a lower price. That's just the way it is.
